Chapter One: The Chosen One
*****

The year was 2000 AD, or, as the Council Of Deities like to call it, "The Advent Of The Goddess". Now was the time when, like so many millenia before, a chosen one would arise to the ranks of a holy being, joining forces with the spirits of the sun, moon, life and death.
But, as with all forms of election since the dawn of time, the tension was mounting higher than Everest and tempers would often boil over, a dangerous thing to happen when one's the Goddess of the elements and so much as a meer sneeze can cause an earthwake of off-the-scale proportions...

Still, natural disasters or no, there was no stopping the chaos that ensured each time the subject was brough before the counsil. After many weeks of arguements, hair pulling and freak seismic activity, both Earth and the Godlike Overminds, rulers of the gods, had had enough. They called a meeting of every known deitie, the likes of which not seen since Adam and Eve were expelled from Eden.

Great Overmind Tanaka, who also happened to be the leader of the Japanese mafia, sat attop his imperial throne, overseeing the arrivals of gods and goddesses from the far corners of the known universe. Gone was his mortal guise as a sharply dressed hitman, his burly frame clad in ornate black robes of silk, embroided with blood red kanji. His ebony black hair, long and luxerious, flowed around his shoulders like water, dancing in an eteral breeze.

His dark red eyes glared with scrutiny at the amassing crowd of devine creatures, watching with impatience as they each took a seat in the thrones that flacked the great walls of the Counsil hall.

"Counsil is now in session." Tanaka boomed loudly, his voice as harsh as nails on slate and oozing with autority. The dim-lit room was stony silent, fearful of the all powerful Overmind of The Gods as he rose from his throne with unnessicary haiste.
Addressing the crowd before him, Tanaka walked down the hallway, surveying each of his wards as he past, cloak billowing behind him.

"It has come to my attention.." he rasped in an angred tone; "..that you are all still undecided on the subject of the Advent. Time is running out, my fellow deitys. We must fill the gapping hole left by Lady Shimagami's sacrifice."

Tanaka felt his heart lurch at the though, remembering back to New Year's Eve, the night a race of Kalothians was ment to evade Earth, annilating it and it's inhabitants. Lady Shimagami, the now desceased guardian of Earth, had sacrificed her immortality and her own life to save her planet, her powers forming a protective shield around the Earth as she fought vaiantly against the enemy.
The sheild was weakening with each crushing blow dealt.. she knew she could'nt win, but she had to save her people....so, she channeled all her energy into that sheild, protecting the blissfully unaware inhabitants below as she met her untimely end by the hands of Lord Haplor...

"You fiend! Her body is barely cold in the ground!" came an outraged cry from Vargus, god of Mars, as he leapt to his feet with the crowd, the noise of the ensuring outrage enough to snap Tanaka from his mournful thoughts. Shaking his head of ebony hair in annoyence, he clicked his fingers once, causing a loud explosion outside the Concil house to shake the very foundations.

"That was one of Mars' moons that just blew up. I've been just ITCHIN' for an excuse to blow up the mother planet. Be wise. Dont give me one."

The great hall instantly fell silent.

Clearing his throat loudly, the raven haired Overmind crossed his arms behind his back and walked onward, watching as his wards trembled in fear. Soon, he came to the four thrones of Earth. One of them, belonging to Lady Shimagami, was emphty.

"You! Lady Arailani!" he boomed, addressing a tall, thin woman in a kimono of royal violet with long fuschia hair that trailled behind her on the floor. She jumped, emerald eyes wide with alarm as she stared up at the Overmind.

"Y-yes, my liege?" she said quietly, fear evient in her soft, gentle voice as she nervously figetted with the ties of her kimono.

"You are Lady Shimagami's siter, am I correct?"

"Y-yes, my liege."

"Then YOU will decide her replacement." Tanaka's words were short and cutting, echoing off the great marble walls as he spoke, crimson eyes narrowed yo slits as he glared harshly at the young goddess before him. A snort resounded nearby, coming from Earth's own goddess of death, Dark Lady Pandora. Turning, Tanka felt his anger surge inside him at the meer sight of the death-bringer.

Like Lady Arailani, she was tall and thin, but what Arailani lacked in physique, she more than made up for it with her PVC-clad curves, oozing from the black cat-suit that covered all but her nose and mouth, navy black hair tied into a fierce ponytail potruding from a crimson spiked-tube attop her head.

"Clearly, my dear Tanaka-san.." her voice was grainy and full of sarcastic mirth, long lashes batted within the PVC lined sockets of her icy blue eyes; "You are forgetting one thing. I am the most powerful goddess of the Earth. It would be only natural to elect me as the new guardian."

The raven haired Overmind let a snort escape his nostrils, turning to walk back to his throne, brows knitted in annoyence.
"Dark Lady Pandora, you have already come before this councill for actions against your duty. What makes you think I would elect YOU as the guardian of Earth?"

Getting up from her seat, the Dark Lady placed a hand on her hip, gesturing with the other to Lady Arailani, who was staring at her knees in a display of pure nerves.
"With all due respect, my liege, Arailani is inexperienced at guardian ship. I myself, being ruler of the Netherworld, possess more skills for the duty and an iron fist for disipline-"

"No, Pandora. You've caused too much trouble during the few incidences you've been let loose on Earth. You are irresponsible, chaotic and unruly. We need a goddess with a level head, compassion and purity for this task and I do NOT believe her to be you!" Tanaka snapped loudly, his eyes flashing brightly as somewhere, in the fartest reaches of space, another planet was vaporised by his fiery temper.

Biting her back teeth to prevent herself from screaming abuse, Pandora was about argue her case when Lady Arailani stood up, the soft silk of her kimono swishing with her movements.
"If..if I may interupt you for a moment, I do believe I have an answer.."

The bickering gods paused at the sound of the woman's voice, small and meek in the hall of the powerful and vengeful gods. Clearing her throat, the fuschia haired goddess adverted her gaze to her feet as she spoke, visably shaking with unease.
"This millenia, rather than go through the hardships of electing Earth's new guardian, why don't we CREATE a goddess from scratch?"

There was a collective gasp of alarm from the councill. Pandora let an indignified huff escape her ample chest, folding her arms in disgust.
"You would rather send a child with no knowledge of her power to serve as Earth's guardian? Well, thank you very much for all the fresh souls!" she said with extreme sarcasm, glaring daggers at the younger woman.

"I-it was just a thought." Arailani whispered, only to jump as Tanaka placed a hand on her shoulder. He let the tiniest smile cross his lips and nodded in agreement.

"Well, it was a very good thought, Lady Arailani. A thought that will be followed through."

And just like that, Planet Earth's fate was sealed...

Night fell swiftly on the planet of the gods, an eternally purple marble known as Gaia Iri. Watching from the shadows as the councill and their audience celebrated their findings with a fiesta, Pandora was seething. Every millenia, it was the same thing.
Constantly passed over for a much needed promotion, she had to watch as one by one, the goddesses of the universe tended to and nurtured the green planet. It had to end sooner or later, this lush greenery. The universe was unbalanced, too much light on one end of the scale and not enough darkness on the other.
Death was becoming but a fading memory and the Dark Lady knew that soon, her powers would be erased.

The souls of the dead were all that kept her from becoming a lowly mortal, thus creating a perplexing paradox. Give up her life as Queen of the Neterworld and die a lowly mortal or create chaos, destruction and carnage to rebuild her power.
Maybe even overthrow Tanaka and rise up as ruler of the gods. That thought made her smirk behind her PVC headmask, but she knew she could'nt do it yet...her powers were at their weakest and on a planet full of immortals, there was not a single soul to sap of energy..

Still, she would bid her time...waiting in the shadows like a serpent, poised to strike..

"What are you planning, Mistress?" came a rasping voice nearby, causing the Dark Lady to turn. She smiled evilly at the creature before her, a gigantic black devil-dog by the name of Cerberus, his three heads each displaying a different emotion.
The middle head was fixed upon her with a look of curiousity, amber eyes glinting softly in the dim lights of the fiestra lanterns whilst the other two were sleeping, the one on the left drooling slighty. The middle head nuzzled gently against her thigh, corse fur scratching against the tight black of her cat-suit.

"The Dubya Elixer. Tell me, minion...do you know of its whereabouts?" she enquired to the demon, a set of glowing amber eyes wide in supprise serving as her reply.

"What?! You...you are not seriously thinking of using such an accursed thing?!" the demon dog cried, left and right heads whimpering in fear. Pandora chuckled to herself, placing a hand on Cerberus's burly shoulder and smiling in a twisted -yet-reassuring way.

"Desperate times call for desperate measures, my dear."
