Fan Fiction ❯ Alas ❯ Part2 ( Chapter 1 )
Alas... ~By Lovely-chan~
Weeks later, when Kalkin was fully recovered, Kafele took them out for a ride on to nearest village since Keshi had insisted so much. And he'd always be ready to please his beloved brother. Keshi sat on top of the unicorn and couldn't stop laughing on the way, the little boy was obviously happy. Since the older brother ignored how valuable the beast was and most of all that Kalkin was the last of his kind, he walked calmly through the muddy roads of the town smiling with the sight of his happy little brother.
As they walked through the village, people stared at them. The brothers were thinking it was because of the unusual creature traveling with them, but they didn't know the real reason. The truth was that no one could see the unicorn but them- everyone though the boy was flying. "That boy is a demon! He is flying!" The townspeople were scared of the wrong the boy could do to them and some hid while they yelled to warn the others.
A tall man was staring at the confused brothers as they walked ahead. "So they have the alas…this would be easier than I though…two boys…he, he."
"My brother is not flying you crazy people! Can't you see the white horse?" Kafele stood up for his little brother fearlessly, but a group of people started making a circle around them, throwing things nastily.
"Big brother, what's wrong? Why'd they hate us?" Keshi cried in confusion and scared with the commotion. "I want to go home. Please brother, I'm scared."
"Don't be scared, I'll protect you." Kafele was afraid they might take his brother like they had taken their parents months before, and he decided they must definitely leave at once.
"Why can't they see Kalkin? Why?"
"I don't know, Keshi…we better go." Kafele took out his sword to scare the people away, pushing through the crowd and quickly leaving to the forest with his brother. "We are safe now, brother…don't cry, I'm here." He lifted his arm and hugged him tightly when a morbid voice made him let go of the child.
"So we meet again, boy." The tall caped old man with eyes like a cat was standing on their way.
Kafele turned around to face the owner of the creepy voice and a chill ran down his spine when he finally met the eyes of the stranger. He was afraid the man could hurt his brother. The man was cruel, cruel enough to kill a beautiful creature like Kalkin's mother, and would be cruel enough to hurt his little treasure. "You! What do you want?!"
"You know what I want…the alas. Leave him to me and you and your little brother can leave in peace."
"Alas? I see, so that's the name of the creature." Kafele was thoughtful for a moment, insecure on what to reply to the creepy old man. "No! You will kill him, just like you killed his mother! I won't allow it!"
"Ha, ha, ha, ha! Do you think you can stop me, boy? Or did you forget the pain I caused you last time? Perhaps…you want some more?"
"Brother! Let's go…he's scary!"
"Hush, sweetie, I won't let him hurt you." Kafele looked back at the tall man. "Who are you and why do you want Kalkin?"
"Kalkin? Ha! You gave the alas a name…how sweet. My name is Ahriman and I won't kill the beast…not until he is old enough to give me his magic horn."
"His horn?" He suddenly remembered when the man first killed the older beast and cut off his golden horn. "So that's it…but why?"
"You ask too many questions! Give him to me and your brother will live."
Keshi! He remembered his brother was still there, since he was so quiet he almost forgot. "I won't let you hurt Keshi!!" He was angry and took his sword again to confront him.
"We'll see about that."
"You already have one horn, why do you want another one?"
"With the first I will be young again, and with the other…a God! A real God!!"
"Impossible!"
"I'm tired of your stupid questions…so, are you both ready to die?"
"NO! Keshi run away, go! Go!"
"No, brother, I won't leave you!" Kafele suddenly hit Kalkin, scarring him enought to run away. Out of nowhere the young alas opened his wings and flyed away along with Keshi. "BROTHER!!!!" The child yelled painfully knowing the ugly man could hurt him and was so afraid to lose the only one he had, the one he loved the most.
"No!" The old man yelled in frustration, knowing there was nothing he could do now; the unicorn was in the air and invisible for his eyes to see. "But how…he is too young to fly!" The warlock now turned his sight to Kafele with extreme anger for the loss of the valuable creature. "YOU! You'll pay for this, boy!" The powerful man lifted his arm holding a blue talisman with a red rock in the middle shinning brightly as he held it on his hand. He said some kind of prayer or incantation in a foreign language, making a black light come out of the jewel and hit young Kafele in the chest- stealing his soul away, trapping it inside the warlock's talisman. "Stupid boy! The last alas should be mine! The last alas…the one with real power...lost to a boy, but this won't end up this way. I'll find you…Keshi."
A loud cry from Kafele's lips echoed deep into the forest after his life was stolen away, making little Keshi cry in pain. "BROTHER!! Brother…" His tears rolled down easily without stopping, knowing his brother was dead for protecting him from dying. "Brother…I promise…I will avenge your death. I promise." Keshi's heart felt cold like the freezing weather they usually had in the Alas Kingdom. But the pain and the loneliness he lived with for the following years made him put an ice wall around him, all to protect his heart from hurting again. Keshi grew up alone deep in the forest with only the alas as family. He learned to do it all himself and just surviving and living to protect his dear treasure, Kalkin.

Ten years later, Keshi was grown up and strong, living alone deep inside the forest. Practically isolated from the world. All those years he had lived without letting anyone get close to him at all. He wanted to protect Kalkin, but also himself from anyone who could touch his heart. He wouldn't allow himself to be friends with anyone or even talk much but the necessary. He worked hard preparing tools, and all sorts of things he needed to survive. Keshi even made an extension to his tiny house, making it a little bigger so Kalkin could be comfortable on the inside, and adding a fireplace so they won't keep freezing every night.

"Vritra…you'll pay for your betrayal. I won't let you find the alas. If only I could find it, it is old enough…I must have it." Ahriman hid underground; his pupil, Vritra, had betrayed him stealing his ancient magic book and poisoning him with a mixture of herbs that could only be cured with the alicorn. He managed to stabilize the symptoms, but if he didn't get the alicorn soon, his life would go to an end. Vritra didn't know Ahriman was still alive and looking for the same thing he was putting all efforts to find…the alas.

In the Alas forest, a young haada flied around looking at the pretty fairies that lived there, but all turned to give him their back upon seeing him. He was a lonely haada, always looking for a friend in one of his close relatives, but receiving nothing but hateful looks. "Ah! Another place, but it's just the same…is like I have a sign that says, I'm not a real fairy." The young one sighed and sat by the river, looking at two fairy lovers holding hands while they made flowers blossom before their shinning eyes. "If only I can have someone to love…ha! But get real, Lal, you're pre-destined to be alone, you know that!" The little haada then flied to a branch of a tree and stared at the water flowing slowly making a delightful sound that calmed him. "Maybe I can stay here…I like the sound of the river." He looked around to see if anyone was there and then grew, changing into human size. Slidding down into the water, his clothing dissolved with the touch of the water leaving him wearing nothing but his softly tanned skin. "I don't know why I even bother to wait to be alone…no human can see me anyway…if only one could see me I could surely love him." He sighed knowing that was his only dream- to be loved by a human. He started to play with the water, splashing it and dancing in circles while he hummed a song.
A taller figure began to walk closer, staring in disbelief.
A silvered haired creature with the hair till his neck and softly tanned skin bathed in the river- like the most natural thing. But not only the color of his hair and skin got this young man's attention, but what amazed him the most were the two crystal clear wings adorning the slender back of the pretty young man. Slowly, the young blondish-brown haired human sat beside the river, admiring the scene of the magnificent creature playing with the water. 'So beautiful…'
Suddenly the haada felt he was being observed and even when he though it couldn't be, he turned around to find two honey eyes staring right at him. 'Huh? He can't see me, can he? He is so beautiful…a beautiful human boy!'
"You're a boy!" The longhaired human exclaimed, astonished as he stared more. He thought such beauty could only belong to a female, but even when he was wrong, he still believed the young creature possessed incredible beauty.
"You can see me?"
"Of course I can see you, I'm not blind…but, what kind of creature are you? I've never seen one of your kind before."
"You mean…you can really see me?"
"Didn't I say that already? Are you deaf? Anyway…are you telling me what are you or not?"
"Well…I'm not a thing you know, I'm a haada…and you have a beautiful alas." The small boy smiled at the human after commenting about the white beast standing beside him.
"You mean…you can see him?"
"Is this a pattern or what? Ha, ha, ha! Yes I can see the beautiful alas, and he is just like me, the last of his kind."
"You are the last haada?"
"Yes."
He felt sad to know no other creature so beautiful existed, but felt lucky to have the chance to see one. "That's bad…but what exactly is a haada?"
"Not a common name for a human boy I suppose. Well, I am half a fairy and half a human, just like the alas is half a unicorn and half Pegasus."
"I see, but…how can human and a fairy have a child?" He could understand about a unicorn and a Pegasus, but there was no way for a human to have a child with a fairy. No human could see fairies, at least it wasn't very common.
"That's a long story…but I'll make it short..." The boy smiled thoughtfully. "Many years ago a fairy girl fell in love with a human boy just by looking at him- and she did the impossible to become a human. She did- but it was a spell that only would last two days. If she didn't get the human boy to tell her he loved her and truly feel it deep into his heart, then she will be a fairy forever, but if he loved her back she would stay a human."
"Then what happened?"
"Well, she got to be with the human but he never told her he loved her."
"So she stayed a fairy…that doesn't answer my question."
"You didn't let me finish. She became a fairy again, but now she was able to change back into a human as long as she wished, so one day she got pregnant and had the very first haada girl. From there our race was born."
"Then what happened? Where are the others? Why are you the last?"
"You ask a lot!" He giggled and continued the story. "We were never many…and one day there was a fire in our forest and most of the haadas were killed. We moved to the mystic island and years later I was the last new born…and…well, since I am a boy and can't have any children...I was abandoned. My kind hated the boys because they couldn't couple with any human and have more children, so I was left alone…that's why I survived. The others died in another fire provoked by the other creatures…they didn't like us because we were foreigners."
"Can't you have a child with a human girl?"
"No…they can't resist it…it was tried, but failed many times…so the boys were killed, but I was lucky…my mother abandoned me so I could live."
"Interesting…but sad…well, bye." The boy at the edge of the water stood up to leave, ad the haada quickly stepped out of the water so they could talk more. He never talked to anyone and now that he found a human who could see him, he didn't want to let go.
"Wait! Please don't go!" Keshi blushed when he saw the beautiful and slender naked body of the haada exposed to his eyes. He was pleading with his violet colored eyes for some attention in a quiet stare. "Please don't go." The haada asked once more grabbing the human's arm.
"Let go of me!" Keshi harshly pulled his hand away and stepped back. "Why should I stay? I have nothing to say! So I'll go now. I got things to do and you…you better get dressed you know."
"Oh!" He looked down at his naked body and blushed when he noticed his obvious arousal. "I'm sorry, it's just…no one's been able to see me before and I forgot I was naked, but I can fix that!" In less than a few second his body was covered with a funny looking costume made of leaves and flowers.
"Nice outfit." Keshi tried to hold in his laughter and looked away. He thought he really looked better without the funny clothes. "I have to go anyway…bye."
The fairy watched the boy walk slowly into the forest with the beast and decided to call him one more time. "WAIT!" Keshi jumped- scared with the sudden scream of the small creature. "Where are you going?"
"It's none of your business!" He answered nastily seeming a little annoyed by the small creature.
"But I may be able to help."
"I have problems with my plantation; the coldness and hardness of the ground is'nt letting anything grow. Plus the little I have is almost impossible to get. The ground is hard as rock, and if I don't take care of the plantation soon I will starve to death for the next few months. Now you know. Is that what you wanted to hear?" Keshi had no idea why he explained it all to the small creature, but he did anyway. Maybe for the need to talk to someone else besides Kalkin.
"No…I'm sorry about that, but…"
"But nothing, leave me alone!"
The haada felt bad to know he was bothering the only person who'd ever been able to see him, but he really wanted to help, and insisted. "But I can help you!"
"Help, how? You are smaller, thinner, and obviously weaker than I am, how can you help me at all? Besides, I can't pay you, I'm broke."
"But I don't need you to pay me…and yes I can help, just tell me where it is."
"You must be crazy." He left ignoring the haada completely as if he didn't even exist. Even when the fairy followed him for a while trying to convince him, he acted like no one was around.
"Fine!" He changed back into a fairy and stopped bugging Keshi with all his talking, but he followed him anyway till they reach the small plantation.
"Kalkin you go eat something while I work…it's going to a while." Keshi sighed and turned around to get to work. When he did, his mouth fell open with shock. The vegetables that grown and the the plants were huge and beautiful like he never seen them before. "How in the world!"
"I told you I could help." The pretty haada, now in human size, smiled making fun of young Keshi for not trusting him. "Now check this out!" From the ground sprouted the biggest and best cultivations he had ever harvested.
"Wow! How'd you do that?!"
"Didn't you hear a word I said? I'm also a fairy and I have strong powers over plants…I can make any plant grow anyplace."
"That's…thank you. I…I…"
"It's ok." The fairy ran around picking the crop and putting it in a basket that Keshi had set to the side, jumping happily without stopping, humming a little tune. "Won't you help at all?" He began to laugh with the silly look on Keshi's face, still dazzled with the beautiful crop he was picking from the ground.
"You are so weird. What is your name anyway?"
"My name is Lal, and you are?"
"Keshi and the alas is Kalkin."
"I know, he told me…but I guess you didn't know that." He winked an eye, wearing a cute smile. "Nice to meet you Keshi…would you be my friend?"
"Friend? Look…I appreciate what you did, but…I don't need a friend. I have Kalkin, that's enough. People…people are cruel!"
"But I'm not a human. I won't hurt you, I swear."
"You got human genes, so no thanks…and please don't follow me again. Why didn't I see you following me? You were really silent." For Keshi it was very strange he couldn't feel someone following him, he could feel almost any presence when he was followed. He was somehow like a cat, fast and alert with his senses awakened at every moment.
The fairy boy giggled knowing the human didn't know his other qualities. "You didn't hear me because I was a fairy…look." Lal turned into a fairy and a purple flower suddenly appeared on Keshi's hand from where Lal came out and then he turned back to human size. "You see? I can be both a fairy or a human!"
"Humans don't have wings."
"Oh, you are right!" Then he made his wings disappear. "Now I'm human like!"
Keshi was so surprised he couldn't hide it. "You're incredible! Can you fly if you are this big?"
"Sure!" His wings appeared one more time and he started flying around the tall young man. "Cool huh?"
"Very…"
"So, I still don't qualify? It could be cool to have two unique creatures of this world as friends. What do you say…please pretty, pretty Keshi..?." He pouted and looked at Keshi with puppy eyes.
"NO! I said no already; didn't you hear me? I'm starting to believe you are really deaf!" 'He is so cute!' It's what he was really thinking, but couldn't listen to his heart.
"Ok…well…if you change your mind look for me near the river. BYE!!" The cheerful silver haired creature disappeared very disappointed with Keshi's decision and cried on a branch, feeling lonely again with no one who cared for him at all. "I'm a fool…he is probably laughing of me right now. How could I have even asked him when I'm such a hateful creature…everyone hates me, I'm the least loved of all in this world. Why was I even born anyway if I would have no one to share life with? Mother made a mistake, she should let me die instead of living." He went inside a flower very depressed to stay there the rest of the day and the entire night.

"Don't look at me like that Kalkin, he was crazy! I'm serious…he wears ugly clothes and acts like a fool. What? You mean my clothes are also ugly? Well…I have nothing else to wear…no money, my friend, no money. If I had at least a little…I could buy myself a new blanket." After a great dinner he was able to cook thanks to Lal, he wrapped his old ragged blanket around his naked body and snuggled against Kalkin. "Good night, my old friend."
