“Shit!” Was the first thing that the waking birds heard as Amel fell for the twentieth time in a deep pile of snow. “Argh!! Why me?! Why did the frickin' caravan overturn?! Great,” she muttered darkly, “Just bloody brilliant. And now I'll never make it to the Grand Fiyax orientation.”

A slight woman of about 5'4” picked herself up from the slippery patch of wet snow she had fallen on, cursing that would make a sailor blush like a virgin. Her green skirt was soaked and so were the under layers, not to mention that the fox fur cloak was beyond repair. Her flashing green eyes sent out sparks and were positively flashing with anger. She grumbled under her breath as she propped her self up with her staff. In a nearby pine tree a small bird began to sing, mocking the irate woman.

“That DOES it!” She exclaimed, “Not only am I soaked, lost, and hungry, I have a DAMN BIRD making FUN of me! Prepare to be toast!” she snarled.

A loud zap vibrated through out the forest and when it was over, no singing was heard. There was however a loud cracking as the branch upon which the bird was perched split from the tree and plunged down towards the horror-filled face of Amel.

“Shit,” was her last conscious thought as she slipped into the dark realm of the unkown, “Bloody brilliant.” Her eyes closed as shuffling, steps were made towards her, the being crunching the snow loudly. From a bird's eye view it would appear that a large ball of brown fuzz was sniffing the fallen girl. The creature was about two feet tall, 3 feet wide, looked like a large fuzz ball with small beady, button eyes and wet purple felt snout. It poked it's nose into Amel's numerous pouches, sneezed a couple times, and then apparently decided that Amel was harmless. It rolled onto her and started to bounce, emitting short, sharp, squeaks into the frozen winter air. Out of no where, several more fuzzy creatures appeared. They all gathered around Amel and had a conference in their squealing language of grunts and shrieks.

The leader rolled off of Amel and then as a joint effort, all the creatures began to push Amel with their snouts. Anytime she came close to waking up the leader fuzz would sharply tap on her temple and out she went, like a candle.

Finally the group stopped in front of a large mound of snow glazed boulders. The leader tapped out a code with his snout and the largest boulder swung open, covering the band in snow. Amel was rolled into the passage way, her head bumping into the various roots and rocks in the dirt floor as they transported her.

Amel came to in a large, crudely hewn cave with roots hanging from the ceiling and a feeling of frosty cold permeating the room. She stretched out, groaning, sore as though every part of her body hurt with unknown bruises. “What the…?” she mumbled to herself as she caught sight of her mangled leggings. They were torn with bits of snow clinging to the dirt that coated them. She flung her head up and immediately regretted it. “Ow! Shit!” she cried, her hand going up to her head, eyes widening as she felt crusted blood at her fingertips.
“Witchy Miss not take care of self!” squeaked a white fuzz ball that Amel could have sworn was a girl.

“Um, look here, not to be rude or anything….but what the FREAKING hell am I doing here?!” yelled Amel, “I have to go! I have to go the Grand Fiyax orientation or else I'm NEVER going to actually be able to GET a life!”

The lady fuzz's eyes grew to the size of large Roman coins.
“Miss…Miss is a Fiyax?”she asked in disbelief, “But that race went out long ago, along with winter blizzard curse!” she squealed in alarm.

Amel backed up against the wall. “Look, I have no idea what you mean by curse. There was no snow back five miles ago. And although I have to say thanks for the hospitality…no thanks! Bye!” Amel turned and promptly collided with the wall.

“Miss is not at all graceful and sensing like Fiyax are…perhaps Miss is confused…” said the lady fuzz as Amel blacked out for the second time in a very eventful afternoon.
