(Somewhere in Tokyo, Japan)

Morriya Snape was sleeping contentedly when the first rays of light shone through the gaps of the lavender drapes at the window to stain the silver embroidery on her imperial purple coverlet a tantalising gold.

Her hand had snuck loosely forward, burying itself under her pillow as her head fell onto the crook of her elbow. Short cropped black hair fanned out across the tan skin of her forearm, dyed a hazel brown by the pale morning sun.

The dark haired girl tossed onto her back but didn't wake up even when the bedroom door creaked and a blue eyed boy crept across her bedroom floor and over to where she was sleeping.

"WAKEY, WAKEY!!!!!"

She yelped as her little brothers knees imbedded themselves into her gut, his hands on her chest and the sound of bright childish laughter filling her ears, painfully loud against the reminiscence of her slumber.

"Morning 'Rriya." The sapphire eyed Joshua snape chortled as he smirked down at his sister.

Half opening sleep blurred eyes, Morriya glared up at the chocolate haired chibi on top of her, efficiently stopping the smug laughter.

Looking down at his obviously not impressed sister, Josh seemed to come to the dicision that his wake up call maybe wasn't the best of ideas. Jumping off the bed with the ease and grace of someone who had repeated this procedure everyday for the last 8 years-

- he fled. His furious Oneechan (big sister) right behind him as he raced down the stairs.

Still clad in the black silk pyjamas she slept in, Morriya chased her brother out of her room and down the main staircase, she jumped the last few steps and consequently caught up with him in the hall near the door that led into the kitchen dinner where their Tousan was sure to be.

Stretching out one delicate hand she made a grab for the back of her brothers t-shirt, catching it and holding onto it tightly she bought Josh to a halt which seemed to let off an instant alarm as he opened his mouth-

- and screamed.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!"

Gavine and Piewacket- the siblings' wolf hounds- could be heard barking up stairs in answer to the commotion going on in the hall, and still the screaming didn't cease. However the effect was somewhat ruined by the smug laughter that laced itself into the eleven year olds shrill shriek.

"Do you two never stop arguing."

Parleo Contercourg, elvish druid and adoption father to Morriya and Joshua Snape, was leaning against the frame of the kitchen door, a somewhat amused smile gracing the fair elven features.

::He never has to even raise his voice:: Morriya mused letting go of her brother who had stopped screaming when their tousan had spoke, the elf had that effect over people. He was a proud owner of a voice that made people want to listen to him.

Rich and smoky and exotic, with just the slightest hint of a foreign lilt, holding the perfectly clear enunciation of the educated and the smooth cadence of the cultured.

It was a beautiful voice, Morriya envied it dreadfully however not quite as much as her younger brother, Josh. Joshua Snape was a music fanatic. He obsessed over any song he heard whether it be old, new or a remix. He knew the lyrics to virtually every song in existence and would never be seen without an mp3 player on him. Even now the milky white headphones of his latest music player where secure in his ears and the music player in question was clipped to the waist band of his black school trousers. However Morriya doubted very much that he was listening to music at that very moment, too early for any of that as her tousan would often tell him. Josh was lucky to be honest. He had a good clear strong voice and a natural rhythm, he could sing in tune and when his voice broke it was destined to have girls swooning in his wake. The only real problem she could find with his music obsession was the fact that he had the terrible habit of humming in lessons.

When he was in lessons that is.

More often that not he would be playing hooky with his girlfriend, Chiko Nereid.

Morriya vaguely registered her brother walking into the kitchen for breakfast and realising that she was still dressed in nothing but her pyjamas she went up stairs to get ready for school.

(15 minutes later)

Morriya raced down stairs and into the kitchen.

"Morning Papa."

"Morning Musume (daughter)."

"You washed your hair *again*." Joshua looked up at his big sister and wrinkled his nose as he noticed her hair was slightly damp.

"Yeah, so."

"You're a maniac." He said with a shrug as she sat down at the table opposite him.

"Am not." She exclaimed defensively, flicking wet bangs from her eyes.

"You wash it like a hundred times a day." Josh sighed putting down his cereal spoon to look up at his Oneechan with big blue eyes.

"Do not. I work around potions all the time, the fumes make my hair greasy so I have to wash it. Any way I've just woken up, *you* wash *your* hair when in the morning too."

"Yaa. But you also wash it, at lunch time, when you get home from school and then before you go to bed."

"You're an Idiot Josh, lets just leave this conversation at that okay. It's much easier that explaining to you why sweat from sports and blood from getting beaten up on a daily basis can make peoples hair icky."

The mahogany haired boy just rolled his eyes and picked up his spoon again. "Whatever."

"Do you want breakfast 'Rriya or are you going to eat on the way to school." Looking up at the clock on the kitchen wall she noted that she had gotten up late, It was quarter to 6 already. She shook her head declining her tousan's offer of breakfast and stood up from the table.

"I need to go now 'kay. I can walk Gav and Pie for an hour if I leave in 15 minutes. I can pick something up to eat when I get into the city centre."

"Fair enough. Have you got money or do you need some?"

"I've got plenty." she called back from the doorway, before walking out into the hall.

Opening the cupboard under the stairs (which was more like a full sized room) where their coats and shoes and stuff were kept, she dropped to her knees and pulled her school bag down from off its peg. She unzipped it and picking up a pair of black boots leather that were in immaculate condition even though she wore them almost everyday for school, she stuffed them in the front pocket of her bag and pulled out a pair of black and emerald rolled blades that were normally kept in there. Zipping up the front pocket of her bag again she opened up the back pocket and quickly checked that she had all the books needed for the day. Standing up again, her bag and roller blades still o the floor, she pulled down her favourite khaki parker coat from off its peg and tied it loosely around her her waist.

She picked up her stuff as well as a blue and a red dog collar and matching extendable leashes, and walked out of the cupboard under the stairs to sit on the bottom step whilst she pulled on her roller blades.

"Pie! Gavin! Walkies!" She pulled down the bottoms of her black school regulation trousers over the top of her roller blades and clipped the leashes and collars onto the two dogs. Red for Piewacket and Blue for Gavin.

"Ja ne (see you) !"

"Ba bye Re Rri chan."

"Stop with the nickname Josh."

A laugh followed her as she closed the door and started off down the street, her backpack swung over her shoulder and the coat around her waist flapping about behind her.

The sky outside was a pale wash of mother of pearl, smeared with indigo and lilac gradually changing to more elaborate shades of pastels. The rising sun crested over the distant mountains streaking fire across the horizon and shedding a light on the earth akin to the colour of roses and blood.

She sighed and made towards the potions shop in the middle of Tokyo. Most people would say that this was dangerous to let a young girl out around Tokyo at quarter to 6 in the morning but most people have not met a girl like Morriya Snape. She'd lived in Tokyo for as long as she could remember and being the daughter of the worlds most famous druid meant that everyone knew who she would, they'd be stupid to mess with her even if they didn't.

As if the sight of the two huge Irish wolfhounds weren't enough to keep people away, she was armed with a mahogany and snake skin wand, currently tucked down the waist band of her trousers, and had been doing martial arts since she'd been 3 years old.

Skidding to a stop in front of charcoal black shop with red neon lettering above the window reading 'Sonkikyo and Aratshie Potions Suppliers'.

Underneath this in the same red lettering if in somewhat smaller font was the declaration 'Proud suppliers of Ojiko corp. since 1865'.

Morriya let herself roll forward towards a bollard out side of the shop. There was a metal ring attached to it usually used for tying up bikes. She unclipped Gavin and Pie's leashes and looped it them through the hoop before threading the ends through the handle piece to secure them and attaching them back to the dogs' collars.

"Sit and stay." Morriya commanded skating up to the green glass shop door. Ignoring the sign saying that they were currently closed, she pushed open the door and stepped- albeit with a little difficulty- up the little stone step and into the shop.

A bell sounded with a gentle ringing tinkle, announcing her entrance. The first thing her eyes were drawn to when she entered the shop were the rows upon rows of phials and flasks filled with multi coloured liquids and unidentifiable squiggly things in green jars that adorned the shelves of the glass cabinets behind the front desk and were set up atop a purple velvet throw lining the large window ledge as a display at the front of the shop.

Across the other two walls of the shop were incredible ceiling to floor bookshelves, jam packed with books of all different sizes and materials, each one in immaculate shape and categorised both by author and language. There was a large table in the middle of the room with hundred upon hundreds of solid or powdered ingredients in jars and tubes and at the very end five large scrap books with the names of every book, ingredient or ready made potion that they had in stock along with a stack of order forms and a pen attached to the table with a small chain to keep it from being stolen.

Switching on the light and dousing the room in a white blue hue from the numerous spotlights set into the ceiling, Morriya turned her attention to the small discrete door towards the back of the shop, behind the large front desk.

"Hello." She called out in a sing song voice. "Suki sue, Aiyaka-san. You guys here?"

"Morriya-san! How have you been." A young voice with a Japanese accent floated out from behind the slightly ajar door. "I have not seen you in ages, so unlike you not to come visit me." A Japanese girl with her hair done up in twin bunches either side of her head wearing a blue kimono raced out of the small door and over to Morriya.

"I've been fine." the teen answered fiddling with the stopper of one of the potion phials on the table. "I haven't really had much money lately though. Josh's birthday has just gone and I wanted him to have somethin' special so I kinda went all out. I didn't want to come her skint and just torture myself by seeing all this stuff that I can't buy."

"Fair enough. You want to see what new stock we have in. It's new from America. Come see. Come see." The dark haired Suki Sonkikyo turned at the door to the little storeroom that she had come out of and gestured for the younger girl to follow.

Morriya gnawed uncertainly on her lip for a moment, she still needed to earn some more money and this 'new stock' was destined to be expensive. After a moment she smiled and hitching her back pack up on to her shoulder she followed the older girl into the back room.

(15 minutes later)

Morriya stepped out into the shill of the morning air, a new book cradled lovingly in her arms. It had been quite expensive but she'd had just enough money for it. Untying the two dogs she started off towards the park, they still had 45 minutes before she had to be at school, plenty of time for Gavin and Pie to play in the park.

Taking a short cut, she skated down a side alley- the two huge wolfhounds bounding off in front of her- and came out on the other side of the park. Looking left then right she deemed it too early for most people to be out and about (it's only 6:15) and carefully crossed the road.

Once in the park she found herself an empty seat and sat down content to read her new book. Letting the dogs off their leashes she settled down with one leg tucked underneath her, the other swinging backwards and forwards happily and opened the potions book to page one.

No more than 10 minutes after Morriya had started reading in the empty park did someone come in. Hearing voices she looked up from her book only to look back down again quickly.

She needed to get out.

~~ooOO@OOoo~~

"... and then she fainted, just like that. It was *very* amusing. Pity that you weren't there Shii." Anja finished telling the sandy haired boy next to her what had happened at school the day before and he nodded politely.

"No laughter Shii, well I thought it was funny." Adrian Hiedan gave a sort of one shouldered uni-shrug and smirked at his lycanthrope friend, the taller boy just rolled his eyes and blow a strand of hazel hair from liquid amber eyes.

The three of them always got up early, Anja, Shiiquitte and Adrian. Most days they'd go to the mall, but today, as destiny would have it, their path lead them towards the dog walkers park in hopes of some peace and quiet before school started.

Anja shuddered against the cold and pulled her coat tighter around her as the blonde Spaniard zipped his up to his chin wondering bitterly why the stoic werewolf seemed to be cold resistant.

"How come you *never* get cold Shii?" Adrian voiced his wonderings with one delicate arch of a perfect blond eyebrow.

The question was greeted with a shrug. "I'm a werewolf, we don't tend to feel the cold as much."

"You're a flipping maniac." The raven haired Japanese girl informed him fondly as they entered the park, earning her one of her friends rare real laughs. She smiled at the sound, she liked to hear her friend happy.

"Yo, you two look." Adrian nodded in the direction of a park bench where an ebony haired girl was reading with her hair bowed low. A malicious smirk curved the full lips of the only female member of their little group.

"How perfect," she almost purred her words. "Look who's come to play."

The three of them moved to sit on the fence near the exit of the park watching as Morriya picked up her stuff and called her two dogs over to her.

"Looks like she's seen us." murmured the lycan half to himself and half to his friends. Adrian nodded royal blue eyes fixed on the small girl heading towards the exit trying to keep her head bowed.

"Very wise Snapey." Anja congratulated the more slender girl with a breathy laugh under her breath, all three of them had noted that she had tried to leave in a hurry once they'd come in, quickly enough to seem in a rush to get out, but not so fast as to seem suspicious to anyone.

Oh well, It wasn't like she was actually going any where.

~~ooOO@OOoo~~

Morriya watched as the other three children seated themselves on the fence near the exit, openly watching her but not making a move, and swore silently under her breath. She waited for a minute then stood to leave, eager to leave but not going quickly enough to draw attention to herself.

Swinging her bag over her shoulder and calling the two dogs over to her, she clipped their leashes to their collars and turned to leave, her new book clasped tightly to her chest.

She skated beside the two dogs as they headed for the exit. She prayed silently to herself that they would let her go by, just this once, but she knew in the back of her mind that this would never happen.

"Yo, Snapey. Whatcha think you're doing."

Closing her eyes for the briefest of moments, stealing herself for the upcoming series of events, she turned to look at the three other children, Anja had jumped down from the fence and was now leaning casually with her elbow propped up on Adrian's thigh. "I'm walking my dogs Akadia. Why; what did it look like to your little brain?"

Anja smiled and turned her head away from the other girl with a laugh walking her fingers along the top of the fence. "Looked like you were running away from us Snape. Don't you wont to stay and play?" She paused and looked back up at Morriya who was frozen to the spot, knowing what was coming yet but held where she was by pride. Or maybe it was arrogance that kept her from running away even as her brain told her- no- *screamed* at her to flee.

And then they were there all around her, there voices filling her ears and there smell polluting the air around her. She closed her eyes in detest and turned her head away as Adrian rested a hand on her shoulder.

There was no time to run now.

~~ooOO@OOoo~~

Shii grimaced as he watched his two friends swarm around her, fear was flowing off the raven haired girl in waves now and it was all the Lycanthrope could do not to choke on it. He knew this wouldn't end until the other two could leave her there in a crumpled mess, and as always they would want him to join in.

He folded his arms across his chest and watched on with blank eyes as Anja snatched the beautiful leather bound book from Morriya's arms. She made a grab for it but Adrian easily pulled the struggling girl back against his chest whispering sweet nothings ion her ear that made her growl in her throat and try to pull away from him.

Amber eyes followed every movement as if it was in slow motion, closing briefly as Anja's booted foot slammed sickeningly into the other girls stomach. Pain and blood mingled with the girls fear to make the air rank with the smell of agony.

Adrian dropped her to the ground were she instantly curled up in a shuddering mass, arms wrapped around her gut and a small barley audible whimper leaving her lips as the oriental delivered a sharp kick to the English girls side. Now it was his turn.

~~ooOO@OOoo~~

Morriya felt herself being hauled to her feet by two strong arms.

::Shii:: her thoughts travelled to the werewolf holding her arms around her back, one leg wrapped around hers in a perfect position to trip her up if he wanted to.

The feeling of a fist connecting firmly with her jaw and snapping her head to the side blurred her thoughts leaving her to focus on the two humans taunting and beating her instead of the Lycan behind her back.

The minutes seemed to blur together as she struggled weakly against the firm hold of the boy behind her. Vaguely she heard the taunts and jeers of Adrian and Anja, somewhere in there she thought she could hear her dogs barking but guessed that they had probably been put in a body bind after a while after she heard a female yelp and growl. She knew she was bleeding, and she knew she was bruised, some of the wounds new and some of them reopened from the other times when she'd been to afraid to go to her tousan for help in fear that they would just beat her up worse the next time if they knew she was being healed.

At least the pain wasn't two bad, it was more of a dull ache all over rather that any singular blows, she could take a guess that at least one of her wrists were broken with how tight the werewolf was holding them, and the throbbing in her chest gave away the broken ribs that could be found there. She wished- not for the first time- that Shii didn't exist. That he couldn't hold her back. That she would be able to fight back.

No such luck.

Lifting her head to peer out at her tormentors through pain hazy eyes, she cursed silently as Anja swung neatly around delivering a sharp roundhouse kick to her already bruised temple.

There was a crack.

Then there was blackness.

~~ooOO@OOoo~~

Shii resisted the urge to wince as his friends hell slammed into the left temple of the girl whom he was holding in an almost agonisingly tight grip.

He felt as much as heard the sickening crack that followed the kick. Looking down at her through liquid amber eyes he grimaced at the blood already streaking down the side of her face and tangling in her hair. Dropping her to the ground he noticed with horror the livid bruises adorning her wrists and resisted the urge to be sick as he realised that he had broken one of her wrists.

Looking to his friend he saw Anja shaking her arm and glaring at the dog that had bitten her. She had stunned it but the damage had already been done and deep teeth marks were ripped into her forearm. She looked up and smiled at him and he smiled back although unlike hers it didn't reach his eyes.

The sound of paper tearing pulled Shiiquitte Musuke's attention to other places and he noticed wearily that Adrian had picked up the book that she'd been holding and was tearing it to shreds.

~~ooOO@OOoo~~

Feeling his friends' gazes on him Adrian looked up into Anja's queering charcoal eyes and gave her a reassuring grin. "For when she wakes up." the blonde said by way of explanation before letting the ruined book drop to the floor.

"Come on lets get out of here, believe it or not I *don't* want to be late for school."

~~ooOO@OOoo~~

Waking in semi-consciousness Morriya lifted her blood smeared gaze to look in front of her. A dull hate was all she could manage at the sight of her new book torn to shreds although she knew she'd be crosser later.

::Oh no. That was expensive too.:: was her last thought before passing out on the park floor.
