Chapter Nine
September 6th, 2001 AD
Planet: Zea
"Jaden.. will you be a little more quiet?" I huffed, turning around and blocking the passage to above ground. "Your footsteps will be heard by Geels everywhere!"
"Sorry," Jaden muttered, stepping lightly on his tiptoes. "Is that better?" He answered sarcastically.
"Can we keep moving, please?" Anas' voice interrupted from the back of the line. "This staircase is a little bit rickety, and really high..."
I jumped up and down once, shifting the metal stairs about a foot to the left.
"Stop it!" Anas hissed, trying to keep his voice low.
"Well, Anas.. before we go any further - I advise that it would be a great idea to draw our weapons before we surface," I informed. Anas peered over the edge of the narrow spiral staircase, half a mile down to the dark, musty graveyard below.
"Anything to get off of this thing," he replied, eyebrows raised.
"I agree," Lee piped up. "This is a very unsafe way of traveling - especially for the fact that this little flight of stairs looks unable to hold ONE person, let alone five."
"Nobody has ever had to use this staircase until now," Seri said. "It probably CAN'T hold five people. But it's all we've got - unless any of you can fly?" She glanced at us in amusement, as we stared back silently. "I didn't think so."
"Okay, back to business," I said hurriedly, drawing my laser gun. Seri and Anas did the same, and I held back a laugh as Lee and Jaden withdrew from their holsters a couple of ancient style guns. "I advise you two get ready to kill Geels.. there's no other way you're going to get any decent weapons."
"Ew.. I don't want to steal off of dead bodies!" Lee objected.
"Would you rather die, yourself?" I asked.
"Let's get 'em," he sighed in reply.
"Can we move yet?" Anas asked irritably once again.
"Okay.. let's go," I turned back around and started for the masked door only feet away.
CRINK!
"Hurry up, Kaita," Seri said nervously. "I really don't want to fall half a mile to my death."
"Okay, okay.. lemme find the door.." I stepped up to the dirt wall of our high cavern, pressing on random spots to get the door ajar. "Heheh.. it hasn't been opened for years.. It may be stuck.." I informed, now pressing my whole body weight against the wall.
CRINK! CRIIIINK!!
"Kaita! This stupid staircase is giving way!" Jaden said uneasily.
"I know, just give me a moment!" I answered frustrated, kicking the moist dirt. It crumbled away from the wall in chunks.. big mistake by me.
WHOOMP!
The staircase fell a good three feet from where I was standing, coming loose from the unsturdy wall.
"Ahhh!" I cried, balancing on the edge of the metal platform as it swaying and began to collapse.
"Kaita!! Get back down here!" Seri shouted as I began to lose my balance.
Without another thought, I leapt from the stairs and clasped onto the soft wall - digging my gun and fingers into the soil, the toes of my shoes grasping for a hold as I hoisted myself to my left side to pull my gun out.
"Ahhh! Kaita!!" Seri yelled. "What are you doing?!"
TSEW!
I pulled the trigger of my gun, the beam slicing through the wall and revealing the outer world, sunlight pouring in.
Hunks of dirt and mud fell on top of me, but were left unnoticed as I threw myself to the hole.
I growled and huffed as I tossed my gun through the hole, grasping onto the edge of it for dear life. And slowly, I inched my elbow through the small opening, hoisting my body up and trying to ignore my friends' gasps.
"Gah!" I flung myself through the hole, tumbling out of a cliff onto a patch of brown grass. I just laid there for a moment and breathed deeply before looking around my surroundings.
The patch of grass I had landed on was surrounded by a desert of dry soil... and it seemed that, by the looks of it, there was not a Geel for a stretch of a mile or more. I could see, though, Geel bases littering the horizon, and I was willing to bet they had security within this area.. we had to move fast.
I stooped and poked my head through the hole, and the gang was still standing there - flabbergasted and petrified that the whole staircase would come down.
"You guys are going to have to do what I did," I said. "Come on, that platform isn't going to hold out forever. Seri - come along."
My friend hesitated for a second, but thought nothing else of it, taking a well targeted jump to my gun's opening.
"Okay, I got you," I said, grabbing her hands and pulling. She hoisted herself through the hole and stepped onto solid ground.
"Zea... what have they done to you?" Seri muttered, glancing around.
"Jaden.. you next.." I called. After he and Lee were safely through, and much cursing and dirt in my eyes, it was Anas' turn.
"C'mon, just jump," I urged him.
"I'm going! You're going to have to wait a sec'.." Anas shot. He sighed and readied himself. "Three... two.."
CRIINK!
"AH!" An especially loud creak of the stairs made Anas fly forward to the hole.
"Okay, you've got it.. now climb on up," I said, grabbing his hand and tugging as he slid through to the other side.
"You okay?" I asked.
"'Course," Anas shrugged, staring around, adjusting his eyes to the light and dusting himself off. "Where are all the Geels?" He asked.
"They're here... we just can't see them," I replied, tightening the hold on my gun.
Anas dropped his weapon at his feet.
"What was that for?" Seri asked.
I turned to Anas - his face was completely white, and he had a funny look on his face.
"Anas? What's the matter?" I asked. He didn't answer, but another unreadable look crossed his face as I stepped up to him slowly. "Anas? Anas?!" I waved my hand in front of his face furiously, but he made no reaction.
"Argh!" Anas doubled over in what looked to be pain, clutching the sides of his head.
"What is it? What's wrong?!" Jaden asked worried as the human boy collapsed to the ground.
"Anas! Get up!" I cried, reaching for his arm. If anything happened to him, we were doomed! We were dependent on him, and I had no IDEA of what was going on!
"Ahhh!" The boy screamed once more... then - as quickly as it had come, his strange behavior ended.. his cries died down, his fingers loosened their grip, and he laid there, breathing hard.
"What was that? Anas?! Answer me!" I demanded impatiently.
He stared up at me and said slowly, "That was ONE wild migraine..."
"Quit fooling around!" Seri shot.
"Hey!" Anas glared at Seri. "Do YOU have any suggestion as to what that was? It just felt like my head was cracked open!"
"We're sorry, Anas," I breathed. "I'm not sure if it's just my hopes taking me over, but I have a strong feeling that this has something to do with the Geels and how Anas can help us.. and I'm getting the impression that we're close to figuring it out."

Main Geel Base
An evil contained in a single key
It's opposite may destroy or set it free
The one who will save us from harm in time to come
Can also be used to amount to our great sum
For the evil can swallow angelic dreams
But it's clash can release them from our powerful teams-
"Sir! What does that mean?" A lowly footsoldier of the Geel Army interrupted Bijin from his trance-like prophecy reading.
"Fool..." Bijin closed the bound prophecy and carefully locked it in a drawer next to him. "It means that the generals daughter is a major threat to us. We must be very tricky with her, yes.. we cannot kill her, but we should weaken her so that she may not fight us back."
"But what does 'swallow angelic dreams' mean?" The footsoldier asked.
"I have no time for your stupidity," Bijin replied sharply.
"Y-yes sir.." the footsoldier said. "Your orders?"
BAM!
The door slammed open as three guards entered.
"Sorry for the intrusion-" A Geel panted.
"Sir! The girl is here!" A Geel warrior interrupted his comrade. They exchanged nervous looks as the captain stared at them furiously.
"Then WHY aren't you after her?! Get her! NOW!" Bijin raged, a vein clearly visible in his forehead.
"Y-yes sir!" The Geels answered frightened, scrambling to exit the room.
"And what gives YOU the authority to disobey me?" Bijin rounded on the footsoldier.
"S-sorry, I'm leaving now!" He followed the quickly departing Geel warriors, slamming the door as he left.
Bijin sighed, rubbing his eyes with two fingers, and leaned back in his seat, peering down at the black desk in front of him. "Of course.. I cannot count on those fools to actually capture the girl.. she IS the generals daughter, we must not underestimate her.. well KAITA... here I come. Up close and personal."

"Where's your dad, already?" Lee muttered as we trotted along our march. We had been walking for an hour now, and it seemed as if the Geel base just kept moving further and further away... and it was hot, and everyone was grumpy.
I stopped and turned around to him. The brief pause was grateful to Anas, who took his shoe off and dumped a load of dirt out of it.
"I don't know, okay?" I answered exasperated.
"You'd think a race as advanced as they would have cell phones!" Jaden whispered to his brother. I eyed him, wondering what a cell phone was.
"Kaita - we don't even know what we're doing," Seri said, "We've been walking forever to some base we don't even know how many Geel's are in... and we have NO idea to where your father is located..."
"Argh! I know.. you think I don't know that?!" I growled, throwing up my hands.
"Look there!" Anas had put his shoes back on, and his attention was now directed to the sky.
The remaining four of us turned in the direction of whatever Anas was pointing at. And there in the sky, was a spaceship. One much unlike anything I had ever seen before - instead of the sleek black, spherical design of a Zean spaceship, this one was gold, and was flat with short wings on either side of it.
"What's THAT doing here?" Seri wondered aloud. "It's no Geel creation, unless they've made something different.."
"But it looks like a primitive model - like one you'd see a hundred years ago.." I said, shielding my eyes from the sun as the craft hovered closer.
"That looks like one of army airplanes!" Anas said. "But it came from outer space.."
I turned to Lee and Jaden, who had become rather quiet - but they seemed to be trying to shrink behind the rest of us.
"Uh.. what's up?" I raised my eyebrows at the both of them.
"Nevermind," Jaden said quickly, peering from behind my knees, "Just don't let them see us!"
"I think it's a little late for that!" Seri yelled over the spaceship's roaring engines as it floated right above us. As it lowered for a landing, it blew my hair back, and I had to squint so as not to let flying dirt in my eyes.
"Lee! Jaden! What did you do?!" I cried, as the spaceship made a loud thud as it made contact with the planet.
"Let's just say this," Lee sighed, "We are in HUGE trouble!"
The noise of the engines died down as the ship came to rest straight in front of us.
As the wind stopped, a door started to open with an airy sound.
It was so close, I had to back up for the door to fall completely, and as I saw a jumble of figures shuffle around inside the ship, I raised my weapon.
Though in the moment when two men stepped out onto the platform made by the door, I lowered my gun. Not only were these people unarmed, but they were the snootiest looking things I had ever seen. As they exited the ship, they peered around, looking absolutely revolted at the sight of the billowing dust raised by their spacecraft, brushing their coats off and glancing around at us importantly. Instantly, I recognized them by their orange eyes and antennae.
"Excuse me," I said warily, eyeing the men. "But can I help you with anything?"
"Uh, yeah," one of them men said gruffly. He puffed out his chest and pulled out a scroll from his pocket, reading off of it. "Ner Blan and I - Runy Spidden, from the Urisian Police Force, may inquire by law of the king and queen, that Lee and Jaden Drenan be placed under arrest for property abuse, stealing, and costing the government millions of dollars..." he tightened the scroll and stuck it back underneath his coat.
"A-and kidnap!" Ner Blan added excitedly.
Suddenly Lee and Jaden stepped up from behind us, obviously accepting that they had been caught.
"What do you MEAN kidnapping?! We never kidnapped anyone!" Lee protested.
The small, excited man grinned smugly. "Well it certainly seems that an older brother with Jaden's reputation..." he shrugged.
"You think Jaden kidnapped me?!" Lee roared. Ner Blan looked even more smug than before.
"That's they way I saw it," he said. "And I am the law. What I say, goes."
"B-but," Jaden spluttered, "I don't BELIEVE this! YOU can't arrest US! WE have authority over YOU!"
That gave whole new faces to our strange little group - Anas, Seri and my own face were confused, and Lee and Jaden's drew serious as Ner and Runy's faces glowed maliciously.
"Oh.. that is only PARTLY true, remember.. authority can as well be arrested. And as much trouble as you two are in.. well - It'd be safe to say that you'll spend quite a few years UNauthorised, if I do say so myself.." Runy chuckled. "Now - come with us! You're to be put in prison for your acts of stupidity and making a mockery out of our race.."
"Yes! A mockery of our race!" Ner repeated right as Runy gave a large belch. Anas tried to stifle a laugh.
"It's bad enough, your parents giving you two EARTH names.. knew you were going to be trouble even then..." Runy continued.
"Oh shut up, you know you wouldn't have made that very spaceship without Earth materials," Lee snorted. Then he made a loud, fake cough that sounded just like "gold hog".
"I for one, think we can straighten this out with our parents," Jaden said hotly.
"Oh, we were already granted permission from the king and queen... yes - you are both old enough to be put in jail for a while.." Runy smarmed.
"You're going to have to drag us," Jaden hissed, planting his feet.
"Yeah," Lee agreed. Then he muttered to his brother, "Can't get much worse than this."
PEW! BOOM!
Suddenly, both Runy and Ner dropped dead as their spaceship exploded behind them.
"Ahhhh!" Jaden and Lee fell back from the heat of the blast, crashing into us as we all were thrown to the ground.
"Is everyone okay?!" I shouted over the roaring fire, stumbling to my feet.
"What WAS that?!" Seri cried.
"I don't know, but I'm willing to bet THEY didn't do it!" Anas yelled unhappily.
"The spaceship wouldn't just.. blow up like that!" Lee cried.
We were too busy screaming to think about WHO had done any of this! Order needed to be called!
"Hey!" I shouted over everyone's screaming. They continued. "HEY!!" Our group quieted down.
"We're not getting ANYWHERE by panicking like this! Calm down! We're in no danger right now, as long as we move away from here as quickly as we can!"
Just then, evil laughter erupted from behind the flaming capsule.
"Damn!" I cursed, drawing my weapon. My group followed me, standing ready to fire, fingers quivering on the triggers of their guns.
"I think it's a little late for you to run, isn't it?" A Geel stepped calmly from behind the spaceship. He threw back his slimy head and cackled more maniacally. "Put your weapons AWAY! You won't be needing them, I'll show you.." the Geel flicked two of his fingers and I felt a point of pressure on my back. Suddenly, I froze. We had been completely surrounded! The stupid law of the Urisians had distracted us so that the Geels could circle us! I was SO STUPID! Now what was I going to do?! I had a gun in my back, and so did everyone else at this point! Why had I been so blind?
"Drop your weapons, or I'll give the order to shoot," the commanding Geel sneered. Reluctantly, we did as we were told, throwing our guns to the dirt. "That's better. Now - best get down to the point, shall we? You," the Geel pointed a long, slender finger at me as I glared daggers at him. "You are a lucky one. You won't have to look like those two Urisians over there," he jerked his head in the direction of the bodies of Runy and Ner. "At least for now! And your friend's will live quite as long if they cooperate, yes... at least some of them." The Geel turned his attention from me, and I followed his slow finger to Jaden and Lee. What could he possibly want with them?
"You two.. you may not remember me from so many years ago.. barely even small children both of you were... well, now I'm back, and you won't escape me so easily this time." Frankly, I had no IDEA of what he was talking about.. how did this Geel know them?
"Let me tell you something before I kill these pests, Zeans. You know they are the princes of the Urisian empire already, I believe... yes - well, you Zeans underestimated us. You probably already know we've taken over your galaxy? Does it not occur to you that we might have stolen about three surrounding galaxies? Yes, we are progressing faster than you may think, much faster. And we were lucky to come upon the wonderful little galaxy in which the planet Uris dominated, and naturally, we HAD to take over that planet first. They were tricky little demons, and they evacuated their planet quickly enough to escape me, but their political party stayed, and they as well slipped through our fingers when we decided their deaths. That made us very mad, and also because when the king and queen finally left, their children stayed behind. And for the third time, we tried, and they escaped! Three times, they escaped us! That, we could not stand to keep that kind of record of.. would have brought down our race perhaps, if there were only the slightest chance of escape. Once we take over a planet, it's ours, no questions asked."
"That's why we never knew of other galaxies! You had left no record of ever being there because of your reputations!" I realized.
"Yes, so that is why after a couple of years, they got their planet back, and until now, we thought nothing of it," the Geel said. "But - now the children which led us to giving a single galaxy back to them - the ones who almost ruined us.. are HERE. How... very convenient. Now - you two, you know how I remember you? We have advanced, boys - so very much. Nobody can fool us, not with any masks, or aging.. we know exactly who you are. And now, you DIE by the hands of Bijin - remember that name. I am Bijin, captain of the Geel army. And now, you two die."
The memory of Bijin floated back into the boy's minds... and they remembered a time in their past so long ago, it seemed only a dream... but the image was now fresh in their minds, so that they could now recollect every detail of the ghostly past...
