Fan Fiction ❯ Angelic Memories ❯ Nightmares and Killers ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]
In the dead of night twigs snapped and leaves newly fallen from the trees that made up the small forest rustled as blurred shadows darted through them. I watched safely but helplessly from my perch way above them. Heart racing and head pounding I could scarcely breath for the fear of being found out. 'I'm going to make it...I'm really going to be free!'
Before I could move a familiar cold voice whispers from behind me. "Well well Kasumi. Trying to hide from the Gensou Knights are we?" The inhuman claws of the creature grip my shoulder causing a sharp pain to run down my arm.
Leila jolted awake, promptly smacking her head on the top bunk. She held her now aching head unable to suppress a groan. 'That dream...Why can't it just leave me alone!?'
The mattress squeaked as crystal blue eyes pear over the edge at Leila. "That sounded awfully painful. So it was the creepy dream again, eh?"
Grabbing the pillow Leila opened her gray eyes and brushed some stray hairs off her face. Being that it was so choppy and only reached her chin it constantly fell onto her face.
"You may be my sister but I believe that's hardly your business." The pillow slammed into the blue eyed girl's face. The owner, Kylia, tumbled off the top bunk and onto the randomly placed bean bag chairs resting next to the bed.
"I guess that means it's time to get up!" Kylia's remark, though slightly muffled, was as cheerful as it always seemed to be. She shakily stood up and walked over to her closet, which was on the other side of the room. Kylia proceeded to remove a gray blouse with blue cuffs and golden buttons, a T-shirt, and a knee length blue ruffled skirt. The blouse and skirt were the required school uniform. The T-shirt could be any color they wanted it to be. Kylia usually wore violet while Leila usually wore black.
Leila glanced over at the digital clock on the dresser. The time 6:45 glowed back at her in the dimly lit room. The place had a somber feel to it, most likely caused by the semi lack of color. There was only a bunk bed that Leila and Kylia shared, a simple ash dresser with a mirror above it, an ash desk with a small lamp, and two closets. Leila had picked black paint for the wall and a deep purple carpet. Kylia picked thin pink curtains, purple blinds, and the pink trim going around the room. They both decided to make the ceiling navy blue with gold specs. They got to design the room after they moved in with their aunt Naomi. Dragging herself out of bed, Leila headed over to her closet and shuffled around her other clothes to find her school uniform.
"I guess you're finally going to school today." Kylia walked over to the mirror. and started brushing her light brown hair. It went down to her hips so there was a lot to brush. After she got finished brushing she would braid her hair.
"Yeah. If I don't go more often Naomi said she'd kick me out of the house. Not that I'd mind that to much anyway." Leila stood up and bumped one of the shelves causing a pile of junk to clatter around her. "This day just gets better and better."
Kylia finished braiding her hair and headed out of the room. "I'll start breakfast. Is toast alright?"
"Sure." Leiela nodded as she tried to get everything back where it was before. Heading towards the door she glanced at the mirror. She decided it was fine as it was. Unlike Kylia, Leila had jet black hair. She finally got Naomi to let her color the tips red and add some purple highlights to the bangs. She reached in a drawer and pulled out a pendant. If you looked close enough you could see a snake wrapped around a silver crescent. Tieing it around her neck she looked at the clock once more. "Only 7:03. Still time to get a game of solitaire in!"
Leaving the room and going down the hallway she entered the study. Leila booted up the computer and listened to the relaxing hum of the machine. She sank into the chair and started a new game. Not long after she could smell what Kylia had started cooking. Even if it was only toast it still smelled good to Leila. Her stomach grumbling, she made her way downstairs.
She passed by a few rooms before reaching the kitchen. Out of the corner of her eye she thought she saw Kylia in the living room. 'Her friends mustn't have picked her up yet.' Hana, Auron, and Cho always came early so Kylia could walk with them to school. Leila would wait around at home for a while to catch the bus. After entering the kitchen she sat down by the counter where a plate of toast and juice were set. She was closer to the TV then the remote so she just reached over and pushed the power button.
The screen set forth an eerie glow as it came to life. The reporter's voice echoed through the house. 'Oh. It's the news.' She was about to change the channel until she noticed what was happening. There were bodies, dozens of them, strewn across the room. None of them looked like they could still be alive what with all the injuries they all had. The strange thing was that hardly any blood could be seen around them. Only some minor spots here and there. The camera turned to the far wall and that's when Leila noticed it. A mass amount of blood was smeared on the wall. She barely had time to figure out what the bloody words said before the screen went blank.
Kylia dropped the remote onto the counter. She had a disgusted look on her face. "How much of that horrid scene did you see?" Her voice was calm but a bit demanding. Surprised by her sister's actions and tone, Leila couldn't help but wonder what would cause her to act that way. Kylia must have seen her confusion because she quickly explained, "Seeing death like that could mess with your mind. How could Ka..." she paused," anyone do that? It's so cruel!"
'She was about to say something that..started with Ka...I wonder.' Leila sighs. 'At least she didn't't mean the writing on the wall. What did it say again? Oh yeah. Kasumi, I shall slay all from this fowl world until you are back in your eternal prison' Leila became aware that her mind had wondered off. She started to answer Kylia's early question.
"I had only just turned it on but.." The doorbell rang cutting Leila off. Both girls looked towards the window.
"It's Cho and the others. I'll see you at school!" Kylia snatched her book bag off the floor but before running off down the hallway she turned a said, "You're lunch is sitting on the stove. don't forget it, okay?"
Leila heard the front door slam and returned her gaze to the counter. The plate of food sat there untouched. She spoke to herself in a less then joyful tone, "Great. Cold breakfast."
