Title: Angelic

Author: Christi Morelei

Rating: G

A/N: Just a small bit of Xenosaga fanfiction that I was inspired to write one night. I haven't played the entire game thoroughly enough, and I've seen most of it. I'll probably not get all of my information right, but just bear with me, people. A small fic concerning chaos and his roots. I do not intend to write a sequel to this, either.

"Did you see that Angel Blow attack, MOMO?" Shion asked. "I've never seen anything like it... then again, I've never seen anything like him."

MOMO shrugged and kicked her legs out from her seat in the dining hall. "I wouldn't worry too much about it, Shion... after all, his attacks are pretty powerful against the enemy, and that's all that counts, right?"

Shion sighed. "Well... I suppose so, but... still, I can't help but wonder... who exactly is he? He's not a Realian... he's definitely not a human... and his powers are definitely not something that a normal life form that we know of would have. Do you think he's a cyborg, maybe?"

MOMO shook her pink-haired head. "Shion, you're looking into this situation way too much... chaos is who he is, and if he ever decides to tell us exactly WHO that is, then that's his prerogative, right?"

Shion offered a small smile.

"Yeah, you're right. I'm probably just thinking too much..."

MOMO grinned widely. "Well, that's just you. You like to think. A lot, I might add. It makes you who you are. Sometimes I wonder about him, too." She turned her head to gaze at chaos from the other side of the room, who was sitting quietly, staring down at the table in front of him. He seemed to be absorbed in something very intriguing.

"But, you know... chaos is a really good fighter... his magic and skills are not something to be messed with, that's for sure. We probably wouldn't have won all those battles against the Gnosis without him. And that makes up for the mystery around him, right?"

Shion laughed. "You sound just like Ziggy when you talk like that."

MOMO giggled. "Well, it comes from hanging around him for so long!"

Just then, Allen came through the door, jogging up to Shion. Just as he opened his mouth to speak, Shion held up a hand.

"It's alright, Allen, I'll go to check on KOS-MOS." His shoulders sagged.

"Okay..." He trudged out of the room with Shion behind him.

MOMO sighed and swung her legs out again, humming to herself softly. She and chaos were now the only ones in the room. On a whim of boredom and a lack of caring, she began to sing outloud.

Do you ever question your life?

Do you ever wonder why?

Do you ever see in your dreams-

All the castles in the sky?

Oh tell me why

Do we build castles in the sky?

Oh tell me why

All the castles way up high?

Please tell me why

Do we build castles in the sky?

Oh tell me why

All the castles way up high...?

MOMO was interrupted by a small but distinctive cough from the other side of the room. She stopped kicking her legs and looked up. chaos was staring at her contemplatingly. His fingers beneath his gloves were in a chapel arch, and a small smirk seemed to grace his features.

"Oh, I'm sorry, chaos. Did I disturb you?" MOMO said. chaos shook his head, smiling.

"Not at all, MOMO. I quite enjoyed your song, actually." He stood up and walked over towards her, as she giggled slightly and smiled widely.

"Thanks... my mommy used to sing it to me." chaos nodded in acknowledgment, sitting next to her and arching his fingers again.

"I also enjoyed the more finer points of yours and Shion's conversation."

MOMO immediately bowed her head, the smile fading from her face. "I'm sorry, chaos, for talking about you behind your back... I mean, I don't think badly about you or anything, it's just-" She was interrupted by chaos holding up his hand, dismissing her.

"It's okay, MOMO. I'm not offended, not in the least." He chuckled lightly. "I'm used to it."

MOMO bit her lip and stared at him, her legs swinging beneath her again in anticipation.

"But... chaos, don't you think you could stop all the talk about you by just telling people who you are??"

chaos blinked at her in surprise. MOMO immediately shut her mouth for her outburst.

"I'm sorry... it was out of place for me to ask that. I'm sorry."

He shook his head again. "It's nothing, MOMO. You're right, I could do that, and I really should do that... but you were right before, you know."

MOMO blinked in curiousity. "What do you mean?"

chaos leaned forward in his seat and leaned against the table, staring into space. "You said that if I ever wanted to let you know who I really am, I would, because it's my prerogative. And that has been my plan all along."

MOMO sat there for a moment, thinking. Then, she smiled and shook her head. "Of course... why would I ever doubt you, chaos."

He stood up and ran a gloved hand through his silver hair, tousling it slightly. "One of these days, MOMO... you'll know, and you'll understand why." He turned away. "I just don't think that I'm quite ready yet..."

chaos trailed off, and MOMO nodded again. "Naturally, chaos. I won't pressure you about it, and nobody else on the crew will, either."

He abruptly turned his head and stared at her. "MOMO... who do you think I am?"

There was silence for a moment as chaos stared at MOMO, and MOMO stared back. His eyes spelled desperation... hers spelled interest. Then, her face broke out into a giant, friendly smile.

"I think you're an angel!"

chaos' eyes widened as she swung her legs again and giggled. chaos looked down and offered a weak smile, stammering. "A-an Angel? That's... one I've never heard before.."

"Well, I think it's true!" MOMO said. "You've always struck me as a being that's not of this world... a beautiful, heavenly being."

chaos stood there in shock at her response. The word resonated in his mind. Angel...?

"I mean, whenever I see you in battle, you're attacks are always so spectacular... I think you've got some hidden power in you that only you can decipher."

chaos stood in contemplation. He hesitated before speaking. "Perhaps... perhaps you're right, once again, MOMO..."

MOMO stood up and walked towards the door. "Well, whenever you feel you're ready to tell us anything, I won't object! I've gotta go now... Ziggy's waiting. Bye!"

She waved at him, and with a hop in her step, she walked through the door.

chaos was now alone. He placed a gloved hand on his shoulder, thinking about their conversation.

An angel? Why does that word bring back so many memories...? Maybe... maybe she is right... am I... sent from... God?

chaos felt something in his hand. He removed it from his shoulder and looked at it. A small, blue, translucent feather lingered there for a moment, before fading away.
