Chapter One: The Revolution Begins
The moon had risen. Night was upon them.
Gaiden stepped into the starlight that shone through a gap in the trees above; the dim light illuminated his dark long hair and gray cloak. He looked around suspiciously, as if he heard a sound.
“What is it Gaiden?” Halo -- a young man that wore black clothes with thick silver stripes down his sleeves and either side of his pants -- He asked as he stopped beside Gaiden. “Do you sense something?”
“I'm not sure yet,” Gaiden replied.
“How long have we been walking?” Zen complained, dragging himself to a stop beside Halo. Clothed in gray jeans, black shirt and a blue vest. “It feels like this forest never ends.”
“It is the biggest forest in Beogard,” Halo pointed out. “It's the best way to Delhaft though, less chance of getting caught—”
“Quiet,” Gaiden said sharply. “It's hard to concentrate when you're talking.”
“Sor-ry…” Halo said mockingly.
Less than a minute passed when Gaiden finally concluded, “I can't sense any danger nearby…”
“Alright so let's go,” Zen said as he started walking.
“Be on your guard though,” Gaiden said as he followed, his long black hair and odd looking cloak swaying at the same time. Halo glanced behind him before moving his feet to follow the other two, his cape also waved as he moved.
They walked over 2 more miles before Gaiden stopped again. “This time I'm sure of it.”
“How many?” Halo asked. But Gaiden had no time to answer, tons of enemies jumped from the brush, all dressed in dark red cloaks with skull-like masks covering their faces.
“Count for yourself,” Gaiden said.
“How `bout I count how many I kill?” Zen challenged. “Whoever has the most kills wins.”
“I'm game,” Halo replied.
“This isn't a time for games,” Gaiden said seriously.
“Yeah, whatever,” Halo said. He reached over his shoulders and wrapped his hands around each katana hilt, then whipped them out from the holster on his back.
Zen flung the white electric guitar from his back and into his hands, “Let's rock!” While Gaiden just stood silent, no sudden movements or withdrawing a weapon. Halo and Zen paid no attention to this as they threw themselves into the fray.
The enemies took out their separate weapons, which ranged from a simple sword or axe, to a pistol or machine gun. Or combinations. This didn't faze the three saviors though; Halo blocked every attack aimed his way with one of his katanas. He took out the machine gunners first in a flash. Then continued on to slice through the rest.
Zen stroked his guitar strings for a loud sound wave that surrounded him, blocking any bullet or blade that pierced after him; along with knock back any nearby enemies. Then he followed up with spinning the guitar over his head and sending lightning bolts careening out towards various enemies.
Gaiden's approach was different. He didn't rush headlong into battle; instead he waited for his enemies to come to him, and he didn't have to wait long. Several attacked him at once. Gaiden made a few sweeping arm gestures and a gale of wind came from nowhere and swept the foes off their feet. Then with a twirling hand gesture, Gaiden created an icy blizzard that froze many at once. In order to block the gunshots, he pounded his fist into the ground to raise the earth and form a shield, then force that mound of earth to impale the gunners.
Halo and Zen started fighting side by side, each swinging their weapons in every direction of an enemy. When Zen jumped into the air and stroked the strings of his guitar once again, this time there was barely any sound. But it was a sign to Halo, as Zen reared his guitar back, Halo soared into the air. Zen fell to the ground and slammed his guitar down, causing a huge shockwave of thunder and lightning.
Numerous enemies were killed by the shockwave. Halo dealt with the ones who escaped in the air, he slashed at one foe that blocked with an axe. Then another foe hacked through the air with a sword, which Halo blocked with his other katana. The force of the impact led Halo into a spin that killed both enemies simultaneously.
As the bodies fell to the ground, the loud sound of a gunshot rang through the trees, and Halo was caught nearly off guard. He moved in time to only get a scratch in the arm, and then he guarded the next gunshot with his katana. He landed on the ground and immediately lifted off again - this time into the trees. He dodged another gunshot and reached the branch that the gunner was hiding on, then stabbed his sword into the man's heart.
Once Halo got back to the trail, all of the enemies were dead. Zen was putting his guitar back over his shoulder as Gaiden mopped away some dirt on his cloak. Halo put his katanas back into their holster as he walked up to his two friends.
“I killed 19,” Zen said first.
“23,” Halo said with a smirk.
“Dammit…” Zen crossed his arms.
“How about you Gaiden?” Halo asked.
“Hmph… I told you already, this isn't a game,” he began walking again.
“Ah c'mon,” Halo urged, “We all know that you counted.”
Gaiden stopped for a second and turned his head slightly, “34.” He then turned back to following the trail, but not without the slightest of a grin.
