Chapter Five: Stealing and Saving
When everyone woke up, the sun was just barely above the horizon. No one was able to get much sleep, but it was amazing they got any considering where they were sleeping. After everyone grabbed their weapons and were ready to continue on, they began walking.
“Wait hold on,” Pikaness called. “Weren't you going to tell us about what we're supposed to be doing?”
“Oh yeah,” Halo replied. “Right now all we need to do is rescue the four main cities in Beogard. Each one holds a key necessary to get into Delhaft's castle, and hopefully we can get some more help,” Halo turned to start walking again. “Like an army…”
“And what about my question?” Yao asked.
Halo turned around once again, “Oh yeah… Well like the rest of you, our town was overrun with Delhaft's soldiers. Me and Zen have been friends for a long time, and when our town was attacked, we weren't going down without a fight. Luckily for us, Gaiden was there too, otherwise I'm not sure if we would have made it.”
“Hey don't say that,” Zen said. “We could have taken them all down ourselves.”
“You sure were doing a hell of a job without me,” Gaiden said with obvious sarcasm.
“Shut up Gaiden,” Zen replied. “How would you have known how we were doing before you showed up?”
“I was watching you two fight. I didn't see any point in jumping in if you guys could handle it,” Gaiden crossed his arms in a mocking fashion. “Apparently I was wrong about thinking that.”
“Anyway,” Halo broke in. “We fought off a lot of the soldiers, then we escaped into the forest. It was up to us to find some help, I wasn't going to allow Delhaft to take over our land. And Zen and Gaiden seemed to agree, because they followed me,” Halo finished with a wry smile.
“Aren't you forgetting something?” Zen asked, with a strangely serious tone.
“What?” Halo replied with a dry voice. “You mean how our town was still taken over, and our families were either taken away or killed?”
“Wha…?” Demial tried to ask.
“You mean you didn't save your town?” Pikaness finished the question.
“No…” Halo said as he turned around and started walking again.
“There was nothing we could do,” Gaiden said as he and Zen began to follow Halo. The rest were left with a pitied feeling before they also followed.
There wasn't much talking as the group of fighters continued walking toward the small village. According to Gaiden, it wasn't much further. And he was right, just beyond the peak was the village hidden within the mountains. Delhaft had no control here, on account of the fact that they had no idea it was there.
“We should be able to buy stuff for our journey here,” Halo said. They walked down a hill and into the village. The houses were made of simple wood or brick, and none of them were that big. Same with the shop, only it was bigger than the houses because of having everything someone would need to buy. Hopefully that included traveling items.
“Do you even have money?” Demial asked.
“Well…” Halo paused. “No. We don't.”
“So… How are we going to buy anything?”
“We're not.”
“…Ok good. I thought you were going to be more forward with your answer.”
“You're going to steal it,” Susa said as if he was expecting it. “Aren't you?”
“Yup,” Zen answered.
“Only if we can't persuade them first,” Halo finished. They walked until they reached the shop, and when they entered they weren't greeted too kindly. Everyone who looked at them had suspicion written on their face. Couldn't blame them though, in a small village like this, who wouldn't be suspicious of a group of people with lethal weapons around them?

“So how were you expecting to do this?” Pikaness whispered.
“Just watch,” Halo replied. He walked up to the main counter and spoke to the man there. “Is there any way we could attain some things for our journey? Without having to pay or threaten you?”
“I don't know who you think you are,” the man said. “But we don't take kindly to people barging in with weapons trying to steal from us.”
“I'm not stealing… I'm just--” he was cut off when a shady figure appeared behind the man and raised a dagger to his throat. “Susa! What the hell are you doing?”
“He's not cooperating,” Susa replied as he kept his hold on the man.
“You didn't give me time! Let the man go.”
“What makes you think he'll give us what we need now?”
“Well yeah, now that you're threatening him, I don't think he'd be to kind to give us anything now! Let him go,” Halo demanded.
“Fine,” Susa released the man and jumped back over the counter to stand beside Halo.
“Get out of my store!” the man gasped. “I refuse to sell anything to you.”
“Well that's good,” Halo said. “Like I said before, I have no money, so I wasn't planning on buying anything.”
“I'm not giving you anything!” the man yelled.
“Come on now, is that really how you treat Beogard's saviors?”
“Saviors? HA! If you're the saviors, then why is our land still swarming with Delhaft's men?”
“Well you have to give us some time… And it'd also help if we could get some things to aid in our travels.”
“I just called for the authority, any minute now they'll be here to arrest you.”
“Dammit.” Halo turned to Susa. “Let's get out of here.” They walked over to the others and Halo explained what happened and that they'd have to try something else. But just before he finished talking, they heard screams from outside.

“What's going on?” Zen asked as he headed outside, the rest following behind him.
“Mountain troll!” people were screaming. And sure enough, a huge mountain troll was just a few blocks down the street bashing its large club into random houses.
“Time to show us what you're made of Susa,” Halo said as he withdrew his katanas and rushed down the street toward the troll. Susa was right behind Halo almost at a matching speed. They both reached the troll in a matter of seconds and started slashing away with their dual weapons. Other than speed, the two warriors seemed to match in fighting skill too, they dodged the troll's attacks fluidly and attacked swiftly.
Halo fell to the ground and taunted the troll into attacking. The large club smashed into the ground, Halo had sped out of the way seconds before and was now stabbing both swords into the troll's chest as Susa was hacking at the troll's thick head. Halo removed his swords from the troll and jumped up at the same time as Susa did to evade the troll's hand. Susa was hovering high in the air while Halo was soaring up towards him.
“You ready?” Halo shouted. Susa nodded, and Halo flipped and his feet collided into Susa's, then both pushed as hard as they could, sending Halo rocketing back down toward the giant troll. In several flashes, Halo had sliced through the thick body as Susa was falling down now to finish the troll with a stab in the head, then a slit of the throat. Susa jumped down to the ground as the dead giant body fell to the ground, causing the earth around to shake. “Good job,” Halo complemented, his katanas were already back in their holster.
“You too,” Susa smirked as he put his daggers away.
“Damn!” Zen exclaimed, him and the rest had just arrived at the scene. “You didn't even give us time to help.”
“Yeah sorry about that,” Halo said with a little sarcasm. “But the thing was destroying houses, we had to finish it as fast as we could.”
“Yeah whatever…” Zen crossed his arms with slight frustration. Someone started clapping, then a whole crowd of people were applauding the heroes. Then everything seemed to go by at a fast pace. Halo and all the rest of the fighters were given medals and promised any item they needed for their travels. They had proven that they were serious about fighting to save the land; now after resting up for a day they'd really be able to start their journey.
