Birds Of A Feather...
Part Five- Night Vision
by King Cheetah
I don't own any of these characters,
so don't rub it in...
Kinda sorta Robin/Raven pairing; you've been warned....
------------------------------------------------------------------------ -----------------------
Amongst the many facilities of Titan's Tower, perhaps it's saddest feature was it's arboretum. Located on the upper most deck of the eastern side, it contained lush tropical greenery, a waterfall and reflecting pool, and even a few fruit trees. But what had once been a favored retreat of the Titan's now only held bitter memories of their horrific second encounter with the Puppet King, and by extension Terra's death.
"We really should start coming back here..." said Robin absently, "We need to reclaim this place. Y'know, paint over the bad memories."
While Cyborg remained stoic, Beast Boy was visibly agitated about being there.
The big man knelt to run a hand through the grass, "Good to see all my arbots are keeping this place up. Maybe Robin's right, BB. A little time up here might just do the trick." said Cyborg, almost believing it himself.
Beast boy just rubbed his forearm nervously and muttered angrily, "This place stinks of blood and sawdust, and it always will. Dude, why are we here?"
Nonplused, Robin took a seat on a flagstone and seemed to collect himself before speaking, "Since you guys offered to help us out, I thought you should know a few things about... Raven's situation."
"Demon's daughter battles dark self, film at eleven!" said Beast Boy, "What else is there to it?"
Robin sighed, "Since we merged, I've been having these dreams, her dreams as a matter of fact. I found out she has them about three times a week..." He paused again to pick up a large twig and began methodically peeling away it's bark. "Not a lot to it on the surface really. Raven the demon princess, four eyes ablaze, floating above a ravaged hellworld of suffering and misery. Sometimes in the dream, I see this from her point of view, other times I'm on the ground."
"And, this is suppose to be her future?" asked Cy as he moved to sit down in the grass.
"No." he said, grabbing a fresh twig, "It's an offer. A present for daddy's little girl if she'll just get with the program and forget all this humanity nonsense."
Robin's two companion sat in stunned silence as he went on, "If she loses the battle for herself, we all lose..."
"Whoah" was all Beast Boy could manage.
"Damn, she's like an atom bomb with great legs, " said Cyborg, "You really think there's a chance she'll give in?"
"No, nothing like that." Robin said, getting to his feet, "You'd be surprised at just how tough she really is. But I want to make sure she's as happy as we can make her. Which is why I asked you guys up here..." he said, gesturing around them. "Titan's Tower is our home, not just our house. There... there shouldn't be any dark places in it."
"I get ya!" nodded the big man, "Y'know, now that you mention it, I think this place has a lot of potential. I think I could even fiddle the lighting nodes to look more like natural sunlight. Whattaya think, BB?"
Beast Boy remained silent for a few minutes, seemingly lost in thought until finally he said softly, "Y'know, we should have made this place a shrine to Terra, instead of a tomb." Without another word, he slowly stood and left them to their planning.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------
"Where were you?!" snarled Raven, hands on hips. To her utter amazement, an astonishing amount of her personal possessions survived Starfire's misplaced fury, and all she needed now was a certain special someone to help her cart it off to her new digs. However, said special someone was now 48 minutes late, and in hot water up to his mask.
"Sorry, sorry. I had to get with Cyborg about some construction work and we ran long. But I've put everything else on hold, I swear. You have my undivided attention for the rest of the day. Have you picked out a room?" he said trying his best disarming smile.
She was having none of it, "You could have called me and said something. I've been cooling my heels out here for an hour now. Was calling too much trouble for you?"
He could feel his blood rising, but fought to maintain a steady voice, "Raven, I said I was sorry. There's not a lot I can do at this point. I was late, and I'm sorry. That about covers it."
"And you couldn't call me? You couldn't take just a moment to let me know what was going on?" she fumed. Robin narrowed his eyes at her.
"The last time I looked these things work both ways! If it was so damned important to you, why didn't you call me, huh?! And why the hell do you need me anyhow?! Three words and a wave of your hand and you could float this junk from one end of the city to the other!" he raged.
Trembling, she just crossed her arms and turned away from him, and as quickly as it begun, it was over. His anger spent, he now regretted every word, even the one he hadn't said out loud. Stepping forward, he said softly, "Um, Raven... I'm sorry I yelled at you. I'll be more thoughtful in the future and not leave you hanging, okay?" He reached out to place a hand on her shoulder, but she jerked it away. Sighing he moved behind her and said softly, "Is it more important right now to stay mad at me, or should we talk about what we're really fighting about?"
He saw her stiff posture soften and sag, as she slowly turned to face him. No tears, but she was close. "You owe me an hour, you big boob." she whispered. Grinning, he pulled her forward into a sweet embrace. "I'm sorry. If that's as bad as our fights get, we should be all right." She pulled back from him slightly to look up into his face.
"You make us sound... kinda permanent." She looked almost hopeful in her query, "Are you serious?"
He pulled her back against him, and whispered, "Raven, I love you." he said, kissing the tip of her nose lightly, " I'm sorry I hurt you, but I'm kind of new to all this, both having you inside my head and out. You'll need to cut me a tiny bit of slack while I get my act together." but she hadn't heard anything past 'I love you'.
Kissing her cheek, he took her hand and began leading her down the hall.
"Hey, my stuff...!" she protested.
"....isn't going anywhere. I can't imagine anything getting stolen in a building full of superheroes." he grinned.
Closing the door to his room behind them, he turned dramatically to face her, "Okay M'lady, you have one hour. Anything you want to do. 60 minutes." he said with a sly grin.
She was almost breathless with excitement, "ANYTHING I want? Anything at all?"
"ANYTHING! For the next hour I am yours to command. Whatever you want to do."
By now she was grinning like crazy as she thought about her options, "Well... I suppose a little something to make up for last night would be... nice."
Robin took a step towards her and purred, "If that's what you want."
Biting her knuckle, she cooed, "Well in that case slave, your queen demands..."
"Yes my queen?" he said bowing before her.
"I want this room picked up, NOW! I want these books off the floor and back on the shelves, I want those dirty clothes in the hamper, and I want that workbench straightened up and all your tools put away. Chop chop!" she said with a regal air.
Blanching, he none the less composed himself, bowed and said, "As you command, my queen."
"But first, I think I want you to change into that bathing suit I like so much (you know the one) so that I may enjoy the view as you toil." Raven laughed imperiously as she jumped onto his bed.
"Y'know," he said slyly, "A slave revolt is always possible. You might keep that in mind"
"Don't count on it, "she said folding her hands under her chin, "And if I hear any more complaining somebody gets their hair braided...."

Writer's Notes---------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------
First and foremost, thank you to everyone for the reviews and Kind comments, I'm really glad you're enjoying the story so far. I've been kicking around the idea of melded intellects for a while now, but couldn't decide exactly what it was I wanted to do with it. My first rough idea was a Raven/Starfire slash taking place about a week after the "Switched" episode. As the Puppet King is destroyed and everything returns to normal, Raven and Starfires essences pass through each other on the way back to their own bodies, and for a brief instant, they are a single conciousness, with resulting after effects. It was to be played for laughs as Raven wants to have a descreet relationship, while Starfire is ready to shop for sex toys (don't worry, it would have stayed PG-13). Big yucks all around.
But this idea actually won out. Origionally titled "The Other Mask", it was dramatic and a little angsty, not to mention shorter. So, we're about at the halway point in our tale, and what's coming up, you ask? Weeeeeeell...
-Terra's dead... isn't she? New construction on the arboretum brings this into question.
-Where does Starfire fit within the Raven/Robin smootchfest?
-Raven picked up some mad skills from Robin, but what did he get from her?
-Wonder Girl once again decides to meddle in everyone elses personal lives... Mayhem ensues.
-Wally actually gets something to do in the story besides make breakfast.
After this one is done, here's my next TT fics on the powerbook;
"Catch A Falling Star" - Blackstar's back, and how! WARNING, not for the faint of heart.
"Haywire" - Beast Boy, Jinx and one REALLY wild night on the town.
"YOHIME" (The Night Princess) - Sequel to "Birds of a Feather". Robin and Raven take a roadie to Gothem City, as someone REALLY wants to meet Raven.
Keep readin', keep writin'!
