Breakfast

Harry slumped down into his usual seat at the Gryffindor table. He chose not to notice Ron and Hermione, who seated themselves across the table from Harry.

Harry's eyes traveled around the Great Hall as his hands, out of habit, starting putting food on his plate. Harry wasn't watching anything specifically; rather, he was staring off into space, and turning his head to decide which space would be best to stare off into. And, as he was buttering a piece of toast, his eyes fell on a blonde boy at the Slytherin table. Draco Malfoy.

Malfoy wasn't looking at Harry, or in the general direction of the Gryffindor table. His eyes were turned toward Pansy Parkinson, who was talking animatedly in between bites of food. Malfoy looked almost bored; but, other than that, he showed no emotions. He was slowly moving food around his plate, and nodding every minute or so to Pansy. Otherwise, he was simply sitting.

Harry hands, which had finished buttering the toast as he was watching Malfoy, slowly brought the piece of toast to his lips, and he distractedly bit into it. He had never watched Malfoy before; Malfoy was his enemy, so why would he want to watch him? But, as Harry chewed his food, he decided that Malfoy was interesting to watch. Mostly because the other boy looked like he was without emotions at that moment, and Harry was trying to figure out what he was thinking. In the back of his mind, Harry thought that, at any other time of the day, he wouldn't have been so interested in what Malfoy was thinking, but it was morning, and he was tired. And it was better than watching Ron and Hermione coo over each other. (Which they didn't really do. Harry's mind simply exaggerated their behavior since he rather didn't like the fact that Ron was in love with Hermione.)

But, then, as Harry swallowed his mouthful of toast, Malfoy's head turned away from Pansy, and his eyes locked with Harry's. And Malfoy's eyes were full of emotion. Surprise (probably because he caught Harry watching him), boredom (Pansy talking too much), fatigue (Harry thought that maybe Malfoy hadn't gotten enough sleep that night), and overall annoyance (Harry thought that it may have been Pansy's talking that did this, but he wasn't too sure).

Malfoy's eyes widened after a moment, and Harry supposed that it was another show of surprise. Then his eyes narrowed, and he opened his mouth. Harry thought that Malfoy was going to tell everyone that Harry Potter was looking at him (though the thought did seem a bit childish in his mind), but, instead, he simply lifted his empty fork to his mouth. Harry didn't know why Malfoy was doing this, but Malfoy quickly pulled the fork from his mouth, and almost glared down at it. And Harry suppressed a laugh when Malfoy looked embarrassed.

Malfoy seemed to sense Harry's amusement, and raised his eyes back to Harry's. When he saw the Harry was amused (Harry suppressed laughs but not a smile), he glared at him, and turned away.

But Harry knew that, every couple of minutes, Malfoy was looking back at him, to check to see if Harry was looking at him. And sometimes Harry was, but, mostly, his attention was on Ron and Hermione, who almost demanded that he talk to them.

A/N: Grr. This vignette makes me want to throw up. But that's probably because I'm sick. But I don't like this as much as Rain (or as much as the other vignettes that I've written but have yet to post). Review, s'il vous plaît. (*smacks fic* Make sense! I'll probably be editing this in a few days.)
