Part One: The Beginning of Dark Moon
Author's Note: This part isn't that exciting, but it does introduce Lyra Fey, one of my main characters. It tells how her family fell apart and things like that.
Prologue
Lyra Fey was sitting on a hill nearby her home, watching a grasshopper intently. She was seven years old and rather intelligent and very observant. She was scrutinizing the grasshopper at the moment, her breathing hushed and her body unmoving, so as not to disturb it. She could hear, after a while, someone coming up from behind her quietly. She slowly turned her head and smiled joyfully as she recognized her father. She jumped up and ran down the hill to him, her arms opened wide. Her father bent down and picked her up in his arms when she reached him.
Lyra had her father's deep, dark blue eyes and his sunny smile. She had her mother's broad features though; which included the narrow shape of her face and the dainty curves of her lips. Her hair on the other hand, was nothing like either of her parents. It was a pale, almost white, blue that shone in the sun. While her mother's hair was blond and her father's black.
Lyra's father began walking to their home, Lyra held gently in his arms. They walked a little ways through some thick trees and then their home was in sight. On the way Mr. Fey questioned Lyra on what she had seen that day.
When they reached their house, which was a quaint Victorian style building painted all in white, they walked in and went left into the red wood paneled parlor. Lyra's mother sat in a leather chair reading a novel. Behind her was a modest bookshelf that was made in the same wood as the walls.
Lyra jumped out of her father's arms and sat on her mother's lap happily. She hoped her parents wouldn't start fighting again for they'd been doing that a lot lately and it petrified her. They both knew necromancy, a form of black magic, and they tended to attempt to use their skills on each other, her mother more so than her father.
Lyra sensed something was wrong. She turned to her mother cautiously and caught a glint of silver sparkling out of the corner of her eye. She had seen something poking out of her mother's book, she just knew it. Her father had noticed it too and he grabbed her from his wife and held her protectively to him.
Mrs. Fey stood up, taking a knife out of her book. Lyra clutched her father in fear. Mrs. Fey swung at them with the knife, causing the frightened child to scream. Mr. Fey ran out of the house and placed Lyra by the thick trees. "Run, Lyra, and don't look back. I'll come for you as soon as I can," Mr. Fey said to his daughter quickly. Then, he turned and ran towards his bloodthirsty wife.
Lyra took one last confused look at them and ran through the trees. She didn't know where to go but she kept running. She heard a yell of pain so she stopped and turned. She peered though the trees and saw a sight that made her gasp. Her mother had obviously slashed Mr. Fey. He was bleeding on his right shoulder freely and glaring at her. He lunged forward, but Mrs. Fey dodged and said cheekily, "You couldn't beat me before and you can't beat me now. I will get the power of the Blue Moon and no one can stop me."
Lyra thoughts raced. 'What is the power of the Blue Moon?' 'How can I help Daddy?' and 'Why is Mommy doing this?' were some of the questions in her young mind.
Mrs. Fey held her hands out to either side of her. Suddenly a strange dark blue ball of light appeared at her palms. The orbs grew until they were about the size of the women's head. She pulled her arms back and threw the globes at Mr. Fey. Mr. Fey was ready though; he held his palms out at the same time and a large yellow ball of light appeared. He threw his at Mrs. Fey and the three orbs of energy collided causing an explosion.
Lyra watched in amazement. She hoped her father would be all right but when the smoke from the explosion cleared she froze in fear and alarm. Mrs. Fey was standing beside Mr. Fey, who was lying on the ground looking bloody. Lyra prayed for him to be all right and get up. Seconds that felt like hours to Lyra passed by, but Mr. Fey didn't get up. Mrs. Fey smirked and turned her head and looked directly at Lyra. Lyra had never felt such pure fear before. She had always thought she had an everlasting happy family, but now everything to her felt dark and wrong.
She screamed and ran, crying for her father and whimpering in fear of what her mother would due to her. Mrs. Fey appeared suddenly in front of Lyra. Lyra stopped abruptly and shrieked. She ran the other way blindly. Again Mrs. Fey appeared suddenly in front of her, her arms crossed and her eyes peering at her prey.
Lyra ran again, but this time she looked behind her. She saw her mother hold up her hands and close her eyes so that the faint glow of the same blue light as her energy balls surrounded her. Suddenly she wasn't there, but Lyra expected this, so she stopped, and copied her mother. She was sure if both of her parents could use these strange energy spells she could too. Lyra held her hands up, closed her eyes, and concentrated with all her might on being in a village she had been to before about twenty miles away. She was engulfed by a strange pale blue light and suddenly wasn't there anymore to her mother's surprise.
Lyra found herself just outside the village standing in the tall grass. She collapsed out of exhaustion and broke down and cried. She wept and wept until there seemed to be nothing left in her and then she fell asleep.

The villagers from the nearby town of Odunwa found Lyra asleep in their fields the next day, but none offered her somewhere to sleep or something to eat. They all didn't like strangers due to an incident that happened ten years before. A strange woman came into their happy village and claimed to be looking for the power of the Blue Moon. No one in the village knew what she was talking about so the women, who looked oddly like Lyra, exclaimed, "Oh well, I'll just have to get rid of any detailed evidence of my passing," and then she created amazing orbs of light in her hands and with them she destroyed their village. So when a strange girl that looked like that women appeared, the now suspious villagers didn't dare talk to her or help her in any way.
Several months passed by and Lyra was forced to steal apples off of farmers' trees to eat and sleep in barns to stay out of the rain. Winter soon came though and she had no more food to steal and the barns now weren't warm enough to keep the chill off of her sensitive skin.
So after a month of constant cold and hunger Lyra Fey died. She was found by a farmer's assistant, her skin a cold pale unnatural blue. She was wearing the same dress she had been wearing that day her father died, which was now tattered and torn. She looked aged beyond her young years and many of the villagers felt secretly bad about not helping a poor defenseless little girl. Some of them buried her and had a small funeral. None of them knew her name so Lyra was called 'The Child'. She would lie on many of their hearts heavily.

Ten years later though, a familiar scene occured in the village. A young girl appeared in the village her eyes a cold blue black and her hair raven-colored. She smirked at the horrified villagers as they saw the blue-black balls of energy resting on her outstretched palms. She demolitioned the village in minutes, killing everyone in it.
When the destruction was found none knew who was behind it. The only clue was a message on a scrap of paper that stated:
'I came to wreak destruction and I achieved it.
But this is not my last horrid deed,
I am Dark Moon and you will bow down to me before the dawn of the Millennium Blue Moon.'
That was all it said and one week later Dark Moon appeared at a nearby military base. She destroyed the base leaving few alive and very little left standing. The few that survived claimed to have seen a deadly child with raven hair, blue black eyes, and pale skin.
Dark Moon attacked several other bases, until after destroying twelve bases she disappeared. Her rain of terror wasn't over though. People claiming to be "The Followers of the Great Rebel, Dark Moon" began to riot and burn towns. Their attacking spree would last several years….

A/N 3: If you see indenting mistakes they're because fp.net tends to screw up them up. ^_^
