Author's note: If anyone's wondering where I got the name Lyra from, it's from Philip Pullman's books the 'His Dark Materials Trilogy'. I liked the name Lyra so I decided to use it. I also took the name Damona (you'll meet her in this chapter) from the show 'Gargoyles,' I used to watch. Just thought I'd tell let you know. Now here's the next chapter.

Chapter 2: The War of Two Minds

Kyle awoke in his room at the military base. He was bandaged up and felt extremely sore. 'Feeling okay?' asked Lyra popping into his head.

'I feel like I was run over by a semi, but otherwise I'm fine,' Kyle retorted.

'I see.'

'So do you know who that dog with Dark Moon was?'

'I do know a little bit about her,' explained Lyra hesitatingly. 'As you know her name is Kuma. She is one of the three remaining ancient canines known as geminals. Gems, as they were nicknamed, were common over twenty thousand years ago, but not anymore. They have unique powers similar to Dark Moon's, as you saw. That's all I know though.

'Interesting' said Kyle.

Dark Moon sat on the hill again, Kuma lying at her feet. 'Lyra you've been busy I see,' she thought. If someone could see into Dark Moon's head they would see two minds. Lyra's and a dark spirit's mind known as Damona.

It was Damona who had spoken mentally and Lyra retorted, 'Buzz off and leave me alone.'

'How sweet you are,' said Damona sarcastically. Damona appeared in Dark Moon's head as a tall imposing woman with a long blue cape and a tight, black skirt and blouse. Her eyes were black and her hair shoulder length and jet-black. Most of the time Lyra's body, Dark Moon, was controlled by Damona, but every once and a while, Lyra would take charge of her body again. Often Lyra was pushed to the back of her head and forced to not move or speak. Today though, she had had an occasion in which she could break free.

Kuma watched her Master's face, which had gone blank as it often did when the two minds were fighting. She whimpered and laid her head down onto her Master's knee sadly.

Kyle went for a walk outside several days later. The breeze soothed him and ran through his dark longish hair, which was in a ponytail. His green eyes scanned the area, finally resting on the perfect place to sit and think up ways to stop Dark Moon.

He couldn't hear, see, or feel Lyra's presence in his mind, but that was okay, he felt like being all alone.

Lyra struggled in the dark depths of Dark Moon's head. Her cries of pain and fear echoed as Damona tried to force her back into the mind locking shackles. Lyra tried to brake free, oh how she tried, but it wasn't enough, it never was enough.

Awhile later, Lyra, injured and tired, sagged under the weight of the heavy handcuffs on her wrists, neck, and feet. Kuma knew her real master had lost the fight when Dark Moon's eyes lost their blankness and she remained looking the same as usual. She always, when controlled by Damona, looked somewhat like her, the same as if Lyra had control.

Lyra's tears resonated in Dark Moon's head as they hit the floor. She was weak from struggling and now was so exhausted she had collapsed and couldn't even lift her head. She knew Damona was laughing at her. She could faintly hear it somewhere far off.

She tried to call out to Kyle, but even that she didn't have enough energy to do. Her robe was now tattered from when she had realized that she wouldn't be able to win against Damona and tried to run away. Damona had then grabbed onto the tail of her robe and torn it.

She sighed. It wasn't fair. Why did this have to happen to her? She was recarnated somehow, only to be trapped in her own body by an evil spirit.

She remembered that day clearly. That day she had been recarnated. She had met an angel who had told her it was her right to be recarnated, but that she couldn't have that right unless she went through a hard many years back on Earth. Lyra had been eager to keep living and had accepted the angel's offer. She then was reborn as a tiny baby again, suddenly appearing in a field. She remembered her past life, even as a baby.

A nice family of seven children and two parents found her, an hour later. They took care of her, until Damona came. The children of the Pachi family had been nice and had accepted her as one of them. Especially the youngest, Kyle. He had always been kind to her and she liked him a lot. She lived with them for ten years and then there came Damona. She had snuck into her body and trapped her in her own head, securing Lyra's body as her own. She then reshaped the body slightly. The Pachi family had never seen her again.

Lyra hated what Damona was making her body do, but there seemed to be no way to stop her. At first, Kuma had been able to help her. Only a small innocent puppy when they first met she helped her by encouraging her to stop Damona. But Damona had become stronger over time and now it seemed even Kuma, good old loyal Kuma, couldn't help her anymore.

Then, she had met Kyle. She knew right a way it was the little Kyle she had known when living with the Pachis, but he didn't seem to recognize her. Then, she had thought he would be able to encourage her like Kuma had done. But over time, it was apparent to her that he shouldn't get involved in this. And when Damona had made her body hurt Kyle she had felt awful. 'Not Kyle, anyone but Kyle,' she had thought. Later, when Kyle had asked about Kuma she had told him pretty much all she knew about her. Lyra hoped he would never try to confront Dark Moon again, for if he did, he still wouldn't have a chance of winning.
