Fan Fiction ❯ Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 2A ❯ Disclaimer and Introit ( Prologue )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Disclaimer: When approaching the idea of writing Buffy fanfiction, one literally has three options available to them. They can write fanfiction with full respect to canon, making sure that whatever they write does not interfere with the natural continuity of the series, and thereby end up writing stories about events which occurred between the episodes. This is entirely too frustration for a writer like myself, who enjoys creating his own plotlines and not being restricted by what already exists, so I have ruled this one out. The second option is to write up new characters at a different location, using only the Buffy universe as known to guide the theme of the writing. This is not really fanfiction, though, as the characters created by Joss Whedon are an integral part of the established universe. So I am left with the third option if I do not desire the first two.
The third option is to utilize a loophole either created by myself (which is kind of bad, as it reeks of the second option) or already established within the series (much preferred) to create an alteration in the normal timestream which results in a change in the events of the series as we saw it happen. I have long debated the idea of writing the first few episodes without telling anyone what changed the universe... but once again, that smacks of option two and/or choice one of option three for a while and could alienate some of my potential audience. So there will be an introit, if you will, that explains why things are changed to the way that I write them. And I promise that there will also be something to explain why the series still continued as we saw it.
New characters will be created and inserted by me, as well as new concepts that are not part of the Joss Whedon canon. This is mostly because I work better with material from my own mind than I do attempting to mentally probe the creator of the series without any telepathic powers in my possession. The emphasis will still remain on Buffy and the Scooby gang, but there will be new characters and new stuff, and they will get some attention. As I am writing this as I go, one episode at a time, I am open to requests (such as seeing more of a character or what have you). However, any request to place a character into the genre of your creation will be met with a firm denial, as I have no intentions of trying to write someone else's character(s) correctly.
Finally, all characters, events, and other genre-type stuff from Buffy the Vampire Slayer are copyright of Joss Whedon. In no way do I ever intend to steal his intellectual material, as I respect the writer far too much. All characters, events, and anything else not in Buffy the Vampire Slayer that I decide to throw in are copyright of Jacob Milicic unless otherwise stated.
I think that covers the disclaimer quite nicely. Fire exits are on either side of you, and in the front and back of the webpage. Thank you, and enjoy the fanfic.
Introit
Jennifer Calender watched the tweed-clad bastion of literary intellect step out of her classroom with a sense of remorse she never thought herself capable of feeling. He was right, of course. She could apologize to him all she wanted, and promise to make it up to him in any way that she could, and it would not matter. His was not the forgiveness necessary to absolve her of her crime, in his eyes or in hers. His trust was only betrayed because Jenny had betrayed _her_ trust. In order to make it up to him, she would have to make it up to _her_.
Jenny's temper flared. It was not a task she believed herself capable of performing. Certainly, she could make a good argument on her behalf, even try and perform extraordinary niceties for Buffy. In the end, the only thing that would make Buffy satisfied was to have her boyfriend back. Insufferable teenager that she was, anyway! It was Buffy's fault that Angel had turned in the first place. Jenny's life would be far simpler now if Buffy had just let the hunky vamp suffer. Once again, hormones won over reason with that girl. This time, though, it was Jenny, not Buffy, that was paying the price.
Wait, that wasn't fair. There was more between Buffy and Angel than pure hormonal attraction, and she knew that. So Buffy was paying the price, and a steep price it was. However, Jenny could not see the fairness of the situation. Jenny lost her boyfriend because of her responsibility to her people, the very reason why she was here. Buffy lost her boyfriend because they both got a little too excited coming in from the rain. Jenny's decision was a mature, responsible action. Buffy's decision was impulsive, brash, and selfish.
So why was Jenny being made the villain in this whole scheme? Granted, she did not tell anyone about her real purpose at Sunnydale, but they were acting like she had removed Angel's soul herself, with her own bare hands. And for the kids to act that way, well, she could understand that. But Rupert? The most rational, stable man she knew? It was frustrating to her. If only she could find a solution. If only there was a way...
Her stream of conciousness encountered a dam as she attempted to exit her classroom and almost collided with a student. She jumped a moment, then calmed herself and looked at the student directly. "I'm sorry, is there something I can help you with?" her tone still had some bite from the bitterness she had felt just a few moments before the near miss.
The student laughed an overly mature laugh. "It's funny that you ask," the brunette began, "Because I was going to ask the same thing."
Jenny was not in the mood for games, but something about this young lady intrigued her. First, she did not carry herself as a teenage American female normally would. There was no insecurity in her posture whatsoever. She was quite sure both of her appearance and her ability to take care of herself. "What do you mean?" Jenny decided to test the waters.
"Well," the unusual girl began, "Normally I would talk with you, listen to your pain until you got to the anger stage of coping. Given that you're already there, I figure I'll just cut to the chase. I'm here to grant you a wish, make your problems go away, make everything all better like you want it... or, barring that, make your squeeze suffer for scorning you for no good reason."
The gypsy placed her affects on the classroom desk and thought a moment. "You aren't playing with me. You actually think you can do this? Grant me a wish just like that?" the skepticism in her voice was as potent as she could make it.
The young lady smiled and took from her neck a pendant with a green jewel in the center. "Yup. All you have to do is put this around your neck and wish for something. As long as it promises to make things interesting and seems as though it will make your situation with Giles better, I'll grant it," whatever this being was, it certainly was not fooling around.
Jenny hesitated for a moment, but her pain was too great to ignore this chance. She took the medallion, placed it around her neck and thought.
"Okay," she began, "I wish..."

~ Black and white image of Angel screaming in pain toward the sky, the raindrops rising from the ground to the sky. His head drops down, his arm crosses his torso and his body levitates up and back to bring him to his feet, his fall undone. Awkwardly he staggers backward to the door of his home. ~

~ Drusilla and Angel bound together, their hands pierced by the same instrument. Spike looks backward in bewilderment for a brief moment as Drusilla fades into ashes, then disappears as if he were never there. ~
* Based on a story and characters by Joss Whedon *
~ Color image of Xander in army garb, an assault rifle in his hands. Cut to another color shot of Ted falling down the stairs of Buffy's house. Fade to black. ~
Anya: "Some things remained the same, but many things changed. The implications of her wish were larger in scope than even I thought they could be. In her desire for a better present she altered the past. I was disoriented for a time, but eventually I understood. Her wish was granted, and time itself shifted to accomodate her."
~ Color image of Buffy fighting the restored Master. The Master is grabbed in a full nelson from behind and Buffy rams a stake through him. As the Master's remains crumple to the ground, Kendra can be seen as the one who surprised the Master with the grab from behind. Flash of white, then a cut to Xander and Cordelia in a passionate embrace in Buffy's basement. ~
Anya: "Some things remained the same, but many things changed. I granted the wish, but I could not predict the result."
