A small dark boat drifted slowly towards land, its single occupant shrouded in the darkness that descended as the people of earth counted down to the new year of 2010.

Distant shouts could be heard from a nearby town, a little way off from the beach the figure had just landed on.

As he slowly stepped from the boat, he stretched his arm muscles and his bunched quads; he had just sat for 2 weeks in a small boat, with a small amount of rations and no exercise. He was drifting, physically not moving, sometimes passing out for a while, and sometimes giving his small raft a gentle breeze to glide on towards land.

He walked up the sandy beach and past one of the giant stone heads that decorated the border of the isle. Gently pressing against the barrier, he gave it a gentle push and pulled through, not leaving a single ripple in its surface. As he stepped up the hill, he felt a familiar pull and a small smile tugged on his lips…

`It has been a long time' he thought to himself, `Let's hope he didn't forget, GOD knows if he is still human.' He continued up the hill, stopping every few moments to make sure he was going in the right direction, until he finally reached the crest of the mound.

Looking down, he saw a single giant head, facing towards him. He slowly walked towards it, his eyes never leaving the small shape that was seated on top of it. When he reached its base, he sent a mental ripple outwards around him, being rewarded with only two returning echoes.

Explaining what `ripples, barriers, and echoes' were, would take a bit of effort, since it incorporated the inner workings of the universe and the complexity of ki, as well as vast information in archaic sciences and philosophy. Basically, when the mind relaxed, and gave up completely on the concept of materialism and life, it found a nirvana, a `high' if you may, that let it tap (if it had the proper knowledge) into the energies of the Buddha around itself and cause it to manipulate the elements that are incorporated into the mental composition of every living thing. So, in shorter terms, it means that if you concentrate, you can make air, or oxygen if you want to be specific, turn into a flaming ball of napalm.

With the explanations out of the way, we can continue with the story.

Smiling, he `saw' the figure seated on the top of the head slowly open its eyes, then look down towards the intruder.

"It's been a long time, hasn't it?" The seated man asked, his voice dry and scratchy, consequence of the dusts of the world's roads. "I was hoping you would make a more elaborate entrance, but I can't expect everything can I?" He let a small chuckle escape him. Anyone who was foreign to him would have found this incredible, unbelievable and impossible.

"It certainly has been, if you count 4 years long…I don't, since we know it is merely a second in our lives." The grounded man returned, his features instantly changing into a toothy grin, "But it's still good to see you…hey, is he with you?" He asked, his eyes turning slightly more serious, his mouth not faltering.

`Yes, I am here. Did you expect me to be dead by now? You do, I can tell, for you aren't really concentrating right now are you….Dino.' A voice spoke into `Dino's mind gently.

Dino let out a short bark of laugher, "It's damn good to see you Grinch, come down, I want to see how you've changed!" He said as he stepped back, giving the people above a chance to get down.

"Oh, and you want to see him and not me? I'm hurt!" The other man jumped down from his perch and clapped his old friend on the shoulder. "Let me introduce myself, Eli, assassin extraordinaire, at your service, how may I help you my dear mage?"

As the two laughed, a third figure stepped in from the rear side of the boulder, Grinch gently passing his claws over the great stone of the head that gave the island its mystical energies. `Friends, shall we go into town and catch up on our lives…we seem to be missing pieces of the last 4 years.' He spoke, extending a furry white paw out to his companions.

The two men clasped it, their bond reunited, their spirits rejoicing as the world counted down.

"10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3̷ 0;2…1..HAPPY NEW YEARS!"

"So it begins, friends, lets go." Eli finished, and with that, the trio turned and began to walk towards civilization.
