Chapter 6
I walked carefully and proudly as I could down the halls of the palace. My wounds mostly healed but my tight fitting dress clothes doing nothing to help me along. It had been 2 months since the Templars had attacked, the fae were once again at war, but today was a day to be happy.
Kiz stopped me a moment and brushed my coat a little cleaner then it had been, looking to me and smirking gently as he bowed. “You look marvelous... your Majesty.”
“Thank you, Captain... has the guard been readied?” I spoke and the fairy before me nodded. I took a deep breath and checked my pocket watch, it was almost time. “Wish my luck, Captain...”
The fairy patted my back beside my still bandaged wing and I opened the double doors before me. The organ played an often heard tune and all the assembled fae turned to me. I could barely notice them as my eyes sat transfixed on the beautiful creature standing at the alter at the head of the chapel. Her head haloed in a white veil, her tail swishing slowly back and forth under the folds of her pale blue gown, Torrent was never one for tradition.
My boots made hollow thumps on the cool marble floor as all assembled waited with great tension for me to assume my place atop the alter. Turning to face the woman that would be my wife within moments, I could only smile.
Torrent blushed brighter and smiled herself before the elderly priest standing before the both of us cleared his throat.
“Friends... Nobles... and all assembled here today... we are here to bare witness to the marriage of these two great fae. We are also here to bare witness to the crowning of the new king and queen of the Fairy race.” he spoke and then turned his gaze to me, his lip curling in a little bit of a smile. My heart was thumping harder. “Aden... one of the eldest of all living fae, a warrior of great renown and the self appointed guardian of the Fairies. Do you take Princess Torrent to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, from this day until the ending of your lives?”
Without hesitation I nodded and spoke a gentle yes. Torrent could only blush. And then the old fae turned his gaze to the young princess.
“And do you Torrent, crown Princess of all Fairies, Take Aden to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, from this moment until the end of your days?”
Torrent shivered a moment, she must have been so nervous. Finally after several moments she let her mouth open and spoke a soft reply. “Yes, I do...” her cheeks began to glisten with tears as she turned to me and I to her.
“Then it is with the power invested in me by the council of fae that I pronounce you Husband and Wife. You may kiss the Bride.”
I slowly lifted her veil and drew her in close. But before I could lean in for the kiss, she threw her arms around me and kissed me deeply. The level of her enthusiasm and her joy was tangible. And I enjoyed each and every second of our embrace. Our lips locked for the first time as husband and wife.
As we embraced a pair of fairy children fluttered slowly down from the rafters above us, each delicately placing the crowns of royalty upon our heads. At this moment I wouldn't have noticed a single thing outside of my wife in my arms. It was a moment of true bliss and absolute joy.
It was later that evening when I was walking torrent through the gardens and the menagerie, they had remained intact despite the attack on our homes. The moonlight slowly filtered down through the skylights and I kept my arm around her form. After what I had gone through to save her I wasn't about to let her go.
“I love you so much you know, Aden.” she spoke with a warm smile as she leaned against me. “You've done so very much for me... I don't know where I would be without you.”
“I love you too Torrent... this day has been the greatest in my life... and I've had a very long life.” I smirked and she giggled as we paused before a new cage that had been set up.
She looked into the enclosure before her and her smile faded. From within a creature slithered forwards, deep black scales hinted with red. A beast of a wurm though no bigger than six feet long.
She began to growl a little and held up her hand to the cage, keeping her distance as she displayed her wedding band to the monster. It didn't hesitate to lunge forwards, striking the bars angrily. Slowly Torrent turned her back on the snarling creature and I glanced down at the plaque at the foot of the cage. Ebon Drake Gypsom, Heartless Bastard of all Fae. Cursed he remains, Transfigured as punishment of High Treason.
I joined torrent with a satisfied smile as we decided to let the party play itself out, her hand took mine softly and she giggled as she drew me in the direction of her chambers.
“I created a monster,” I smirked and followed her along obediently.
“You don't know the half of it, Foxie.” Torrent laughed and quickened her pace, eager to begin our honeymoon.
