Fan Fiction ❯ Crossbound ❯ Crossbound ( Chapter 1 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Well, here I am, on Opassa.
Leena said that I just passed out…
But, it feels like I experienced something beyond any comprehension…
A journey through worlds…
I thought it was all just a dream, and, yet it felt so real.
Meeting a girl named Kid, traveling between two dimensions, defeating an evil Time Devourer.
That girl, I almost…
Heh. Must've been a fantasy of a different girl. Leena would kill me if I told her that.
The memory I have of that dream is slowly fading, but I remember the last words told to me by that girl…
“I'll find ya…sometime…somewhere…I'm bloody sure of it!”
Those words shouted in my head like an angry Heckran.
I'll never forget them, dream or not.

The night was quiet around Arni Village, the crickets chirping, people sleeping peacefully. But one boy did not. He was still thinking of a dream he had, that morning in Opassa Beach. His name was Serge. He was sitting down at Opassa Beach and couldn't help but feel as if it was real. A journey that surpassed the boundaries of time. One that had demi-humans, dragons, and a demon that lived in the World of Time and Space.
“Hey! Serge!” called a female voice.
Serge looked to see a familiar red-haired girl waving to him. Leena. Who else would follow him almost everywhere? Leena ran to Serge and panted heavily.
“Why are you up so late?” Serge asked, smiling.
“Look who's talking! Marge has been worried sick about you!” Leena replied. She soon caught her breath and gave a concerned look. “Something wrong?” she asked.
“No, it's nothing.” He lied.
“Yeah, it's nothing to be awake at a beach away from home for…how long?” she added sarcastically.
Serge just laughed sheepishly. He soon frowned and said, “To be honest, I don't know why I'm here. Why I'm worried.”
“What's there to be worried about?” she asked, trying to cheer him up.
“That's what I'm trying to figure out. That dream…it almost felt real.”
“The one you were babbling about after you woke up?” Leena asked.
“Yeah” he replied, staring out to the beach.
A moment of silence entered the beach, Leena was about to make another attempt at cheering him up, but she saw the expression on his face and said nothing. After a few minutes, Leena spoke once more, “Alright. Do whatever you want. Just get back to Arni before your mom has a fit. And if I have to, I'll knock you out with my frying pan if you don't get to sleep soon” she said as she left the beach. Serge grinned and went back to thinking.
“I thought she'd never leave.” Said a voice nearby. Serge looked around, alarmed by the voice he'd heard.
“Don't fret; I'm not here to hurt anyone.”
A bright light appeared in front of Serge, revealing an odd figure. When the light was gone, Serge saw a boy about a couple years older than him, wearing a cloak with the hood down. He looked closer to see he had red hair and blue cobra-like eyes. Serge was ready to draw his Sea Swallow, just in case. The boy raised his hand, giving the `stop' sign.
“I already said I'm not here to hurt you.” He said.
“Who are you?!” Serge asked, still alarmed by the sudden appearance.
“Me? I'm a traveler. And someone asked me to deliver something to you.” He replied.
“What? What is it?” asked Serge. He was beginning to calm down.
“This.” The stranger pulled an orange sphere with something glowing inside of it. “A message from someone you know. Someone you care about.”
Serge took hold of the sphere. “What is this thing?” he asked.
“A Memory Sphere. It contains a message that was recorded inside of it. A certain girl made me make one for you.” He said.
A certain girl? Did he mean…
“What are you waiting for? Play it back.” The stranger told Serge.
“How?” He asked.
“Press the switch on the right and look into it.” The stranger explained.
Serge did so, and he saw the glow in the sphere turn into what looked like a bad TV reception. Eventually, he saw the form of a blonde-haired girl wearing a white t-shirt, a red vest and a red skirt appear inside of the sphere.
“Okay! It's on!” called a voice from behind the camera. The voice was the same as the stranger's. He was no doubt recording the sphere.
“Oi! Took long enough!” the girl said, annoyed. “Alright…ahem! Serge! By the time you've got this message, this idiot has made it to El Nido.
“Hey!!!”
“Pipe down. Anyways, Serge, you probably don't remember me, but I'm sure this should ring a bloody bell.”
The girl cleared her throat and shouted, “I'm gonna kick your arse so hard you'll kiss the moons!”
As silly as it was, Serge felt something inside of him trying to say something. He continued listening to the sphere.
“Anyways, it turns out something went wrong when we used the Chrono Cross. You probably don't know what that is either, so I'll give ya the short version: That dream you had? It was a hundred percent real. And when we used an item on a creature to save the world, there were some side effects to it, and I've been caught in the bloody middle. Serge, I need your help. Whether you come or not, it's ya own choice. You've probably already met this idiot.
“Stop calling me an idiot!”
“Shaddup! Serge, this idiot can tell you where I'm goin'. And Serge, I…
The sphere turned off.
“What, that's it?!” Serge said, frustrated.
“Yeah, the sphere ran out of space.”
“She was right, you ARE an idiot. Who are you anyways?”
“Nobody. I don't even have a name, but you can call me Aithin.” The stranger replied. “Anyways, you have to make a choice. You can go and save a girl you barely remember, or you can stay here and live peacefully. It's your choice, and your choice alone.”
Serge's brain was telling him to stay in El Nido. Why bother saving someone he didn't know? But he felt something inside of him. His heart was shouting `Go find her!' Serge thought for a moment and paced the sand. He stopped moving and spoke, “I've made my decision.”
“I'm going to find her.”
