Crumpled up Paper

I handed you a note

A note speaking true

I handed you a note

A note for only you

I handed you a note

And shyly walked away

My heart filled with butterflies

I waited the notes repay

I handed you a note

One filled with love

I handed you a note

My heart and my blood

The class bell rang

I hurried to my room

Expecting full well

To see a note back from you

No note on my desk

My heart stings then strained

My classmates all seated

Teacher's voice rang

I seated slowly

My heart nearly broke

Did you not care?

Did you think it a joke?

Hope suddenly returned

Perhaps in a book?

Throughout all my desk

I searched every nook!

The class bell declared

School done for the night

I sat at my desk

I sat and I cried

The classroom was emptied

I stared at my feet

There on the floor

Lay a crumpled up sheet

Crumpled and dirty

I picked it up crying

My tears falling rapidly

As I read what was mine

Words jumped out at me

Mocking me my pain

Words so carefully written

And happily placed in your hand

Words at my feet

My heart and my blood

Words on some paper

Speaking of love

I gave you a note

Placed in your care

Crumbled up paper

Now dirty and bare…
