The first light of day began to pour into the windows of Aunt Mayee's house. Count Makraim woke to silence. There were no birds singing, no animals making noise, no movement anywhere.
“This is an ill omen”
As if on cue Elise sat straight up in bed. Her eyes rolled and her hair blew wildly in an unseen wind. Suddenly she spoke in an unearthly voice “Darkness sets around the land. The moon will fall and leave the world in darkness. The sun needs to hide behind the royal veil. He is coming. The ground will run red with mixed blood good and evil. Earok awakes take her to the royal veil and all will be revealed.” Elise's eyes went back to normal and her body sank back into the bed. Count Makraim ran to her side and Matsey got up from her bed to try to help. The bedroom door opened and Aunt Mayee came in. “You were supposed to be gone!”
“Elise rose and said some weird poem.”
“What did she say?”
“That he was coming. Earok was waking, and good and evil blood will mix on the ground.”
Aunt Mayee stood there for a moment and then slowly tried to explain “First you have to know that was not Earok it was a prophetess. Second it was telling of the war and Sir Garot coming for Earok. Was there anything else?”
Matsey spoke this time “It said the moon will fall and the sun needs to hide behind the royal veil and we needed to take it there.”
“Well the moon is usually darkness and the sun light. But neither is good nor evil so I am not sure on this part. Your journey will have to be delayed a little more. I must make sure Earok rests and Matsey must practice some enchantments against dark. Count Makraim, you will stay here with Earok till she wakes.”
Everyone moved at once and after the two females left the room, Count Makraim found a chair and made himself comfortable while watching his friend. His thoughts wondered to Matsey. He found himself thinking about here quite often. She was so broken and sad when he had found her at his door asking to be taken in. It was hard to believe she would become such a dear friend and so kind and caring. Count Makraim was so deep in thought he didn't realize Elise had woken up and walked over to him. “You have been thinking of her often.”
“Elise, you are awake!”
“I am. And you are avoiding my statement.”
“She is a dear friend and I worry about her. And you my lady must get rest.”
“Ah! And yet another one telling me to sleep.” Elise returned to her bed and fell asleep while Count Makraim went back to his thoughts of the enchantress.
