Chapter one Dawn's P.o.V.

The half-risen sun burns it's way into my eyes as I wake up. I groan and kick off my black sheets. I look at my clock, 6:02.

I got up and closed my curtains. I walked to my closet. I pulled out a big black tee-shirt and jeans. I dressed and combed my hair. I put my socks and shoes on. Then I put on my sun glasses and arm warmers. I always wear them, I dislike the sun. I then picked up my back pack and walked out the door to my bus stop.

The bus screeched to a stop and the doors opened. As I stepped in, the bus driver greeted me with her plump and red faced grin. I nodded in acknowledgement and slipped to my seat near the back of the bus and took out a book.

Handfuls of kids got on the bus at different stops, most chatting happily with their friends.

I look up from my book.

"Hey, get out of my seat." One boy, a foot ball player, I'm sure, said to me.

"Your seat? I don't see your name on it." I said looking back down at my book. The boy growled and took my book.

"Hey! Give it back." I said, reaching toward my book.

"Why should I? I like…Edgar Allen Poe, too…" He said flipping through the book.

"Do I need to say it slower? So your shallow mind can comprehend? Give. Me. My. Book. Back." I said glowering at him.

"And if I don't?"

"You wont like the consequences."

"Hah! Whatever." He went to another seat taking my book with him.

A young girl with blonde hair turned around to me and said, "You just let him take your book like that?"

"Oh, he'll get his punishment." I glared at him and he smiled.

At school, when I opened my locker, he walked by and pushed it shut. I opened it again and got out my Math text book. He closed it again. I opened it one more time and got out my keyboarding materials. He shut my locker again.

I was fuming by now. I stomped my foot gritted my teeth and held my hands in fists by my thighs. Then, an Idea struck me. "You know if you keep doing that someone's gonna think you're flirting with me." after that, he stopped.

I opened my locker one last time and got all the things I needed out.

My first class of the day is History. Our teacher, Mrs. Cohan, walked in. "Good morning class," She said, "Today we have a new student joining us. Miss Twyla Magerie. Could you come in please?" Then a girl in a long dark dress walked in. Her hair was pulled back in a braid and nearly to the small of her back. She stood about five and a half feet tall, in high heels. She blinked her eyes and the whole class gasped. They were purple.

I chewed on a pencil and looked at her over the top of my sun glasses. "contacts…" I muttered under my breath.

I pushed my sunglasses back into place.

"Tell us about your self Miss Magerie." Mrs. Cohan said.

"I don't find that necessary." A cheerleader in the back made a mocking noise and Twyla's stare went straight to the girl. "But If you must know. I like cats and History. And I HATE disrespect." She directed that last comment to the cheerleader.

"Well, choose a seat and we'll begin." She sat next to me. I glanced at her and saw that her eyes in fact, were truly that color. She looked at me so I quickly averted my gaze.

"Today is the day before all hallows eve. I thought you all might like to know the history of that instead of The revolutionary war." Mrs. Cohan said.

I looked down to see a perfectly folded piece of paper on my desk. I looked over at her to see that Twyla was sitting with her feet crossed and her hands folded on her desk, looking forward. I unfolded it and read. It said: What's your name? Are you a boy or a girl? I wrote back: Does it really matter? My writing was unusually neat. I looked up to see the teacher writing on the board, talking about spirits or something of the sort. I folded the letter back up and handed it to her. I kept facing forward. A few seconds later I saw it on my desk again. I'd just like to know, I read. I sighed and wrote back. My name is Dawn, I'm a girl. I handed her the letter. She read it and started scribbling something on it. When she gave it back I read it.

Cool. I'm Twyla. I put So I heard, where are you from? She looked nervous for a second then wrote: East. With that she snatched the note and put it in her pocket.

"So," Mrs. Cohan said. "What is your favorite Halloween monster…Ashley?"

Ashley was the cheerleader. "I like Vampires," she said, "They're so cool."

"I like werewolves!" a boy blurted out.

"What's yours Twyla?"

"Witches." She said.

"Eh heh… and you Dawn?"

"Ghosts."

"Alright, so then-" Mrs. Cohan was cut off by the bell. "Have a nice day."

We all left the class room and went to our second class, mine was Computer lab.

I despise computers. I don't like very much technology at all, except maybe movies and TV.

The teacher gave us instructions to log in under our student number. I typed in my number, 57063, and password, darkness, then pressed ok.

My eyebrow twitched uncontrollably and I let out a small squeak as I look at the screen. A gray box had popped up, and in big letters it said but one word: Error.

Another girl dressed in all black walked over to me. "Having trouble?" She asked.

I nodded. She was pretty. She had long black hair and was wearing boys shorts with a girls tee shirt that was too big for her. Chains hung from her belt loops and her shoes were boots. You could tell she was skinny. I watched her fingers, with black painted nails, glide over the keys. "There ya go." She said.

"Thanks." I muttered. She smiled and winked at me. Oh great, she thinks I'm a boy. She walked away and left me to do my work.

During lunch a cheerleader walked by and teased Twyla about her food, the girl said it was disgusting. Twyla dumped her food on the girl and walked out of the cafeteria. I snickered. For lunch I had pizza. And after that, in gym I nearly puked. Pizza and gym don't mix.

The rest of the day went pretty uneventful until around eight.

I was sitting at the desk in my bedroom doing my homework. I had the windows open because it was a bit warm. I heard a noise out side the window. I got up to go see what it was. As I got closer to the window my head started to ache. The closer I got, the more it would hurt. I propped my self up on the edge of the window and gave my eyes a minute to focus. I looked down (because my room is on the top floor) and what I saw scared me more than anything else I've ever seen before.

I saw a long thin leg and two tails covered in brown fur, the tails tipped in white. The leg had a paw on the end and that paw possessed claws nearly three inches long.

I quickly shut my window and turned on all the lights in my bed room as well as the TV.

Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep that night.
