Chapter 3

“I'm Sorry”

Raven stares at the man for a second, and then runs into his arms. She starts to cry over his shoulder in happiness.

 

“… Crow…” she whispers in tears of joy.

 

“You remember me?” he responds.

 

“I never forgot, Love,” she whispers in tears.

 

“Huh?” he says as she looks up into his deformed eyes. One is normal, the other is black with a white pupil, and he looks at her with shock in his eyes, “What did you just call me?”

 

She blushes. She forgot that she had never confessed her love to him. “Nothing,” she says, as she closes her eyes, and looks to the other Titans, who are astonished at what just happened.

 

Beast Boy is the first to snap out of it, and asks what everyone else is thinking:

“WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!” he screams at the top of his lungs, ripping a handful of his hair out, “He follows us for the whole day, and you get all scared that someone is stalking you, and then when you see him BRUTALIZE our greatest opponent, you run into his arms?”

 

“The mind works in mysterious ways,” The man says, as Raven lets go of him, and walks back to her friends.

 

She clears her throat, and points to her friends, “Crow, these are the Titans. Titans, this is my old childhood friend, Crow.”

 

“Robin. Nice to meet you Crow,” Robin says shaking hands with him, and then looks at his eye, and stares blankly at it, “Uh, your eye is… uh… on wrong…”

 

“No, I was born this way, but thanks anyway. And I think your mask is… uh… damn, I can't make a come back,” he says and they laugh.

 

He turns to greet Beast Boy and Cyborg, but they are cracking up.

 

“CROW!” they scream in laughter.

 

“That's so cheesy!” Cyborg laughs.

 

“And look at his hair!” he says pointing to Crow's hair. It is parted for 2 inches on each side, and buzzed the rest. The top is long, and he has a flip in front, and a ponytail in back. “It looks like a crow died on his head!”

 

“Ahem,” he points to Beast Boy's hair, which is no longer on his head.

 

“Oh, he's good.”

 

“I suppose you are Cyborg, and you are Beast Boy.”

 

He walks on and sees Starfire who looks at him with hearts for eyes.

 

“…And you?” he asks, and she starts to drool.

 

“Me? Oh, I am Starfire, your hair is nice, I like you, would you like to get some nuts of dough, they're at the tower, want some?” she asks really fast.

 

“No… thank… you?” he says raising one eyebrow. He walks back to Raven, “You live with a colorful band of characters,” he looks at Beast Boy.

 

“What's that supposed to mean?!” Cyborg yells at him grabbing him by the cloak.

 

“No, I mean… Not in that… BEAST BOY!” he says in fear as he points at Beast Boy.

 

“Oh yeah,” Cyborg lets him go, and starts laughing at Beast Boy, “Whoo! You got no hair!”

 

“Now, thanks for helping us beat Slade,” Robin hands him a Titan communicator, “I present you this as an honorary Titan.”

 

“No thanks. I'll help, but-“ he pauses and looks at Raven, “Sure, I'll help you guys out. But only for a while! I have my own agenda you know.”

 

“Yay!” Raven says skipping in happiness, and everyone looks at her in fear.

 

“Wow, your just as cheerful as you were in Azarath!” he says happily running after her, and everyone else looks at him wide eyed.

 

“She…” Robin starts.

“… Was…” Beast Boy adds.

 

“… Cheerful?” Cyborg and Starfire finish.

When they arrive back at the tower, Raven runs to her room. Crow, who sneaks slowly after her, follows her to her room, and uses his powers (they're beyond that of Raven's) to watch her.

 

She picks up her diary and takes up a pen. Crow looks in horror at the diary. IT is the same one that she had 8 years ago. The one that… that…

 

Crow's eyes go blank and he as a flashback to the last day he saw her…

 

It is a great day in Azarath.

 

Dark, cloudy, it is just a plain beautiful day. Crow sits on a rock where he and Raven always sit together. He waits to ask her something.

 

He was only 10 at the time. He sat on the rock near the river, and waited to see her beautiful face. She was turning his age today. He read a pink book labeled “Diary” to pass the time, and laughed at some of the things Raven had written. The poetry about her `nameless love', her seeing her `nameless love,' her dreams about kissing her `nameless love,' it was driving him crazy!

 

He loved her more than anything, but she couldn't love him as long as this “nameless” love person was still there. Eh had to dispose of him so his love could he shown. He didn't want rejection, oh no.

 

“Hi,” a perky cute voice said, next to him, and he shoved the book into his cloak, “Wacha' reading?” Raven asked.

 

“Nothin',” he said, in shock. She almost saw him reading it.

 

“It looked like something,” she said poking him.

 

“Jeez, that hurts”, he said, levitating, and using his powers to make a bridge of water so they could get to the other side of the river like they did everyday. He walked next to her on it, as they met up with a group of their friends.

 

“If it isn't the doves!” One boy said, “What took ya' ya' two love birds?”

 

“We're not love birds!” they both yelled at the top of their lungs.

 

“Hey, it's a joke. Your names both are kinds of birds!” the same boy says.

“Speakin' of love birds,” Crow starts as the group of kids start to walk into the main town, “Who's your `nameless love,' Raven?” Crow asked Raven, as all the others looked at them.

 

“What?” she said shocked, “`nameless love'? Never heard of him.”

 

“I think you have,” Crow said holding up her diary and flipping to one page, as all the others `ooh' and `ah', “Dear diary, Today I saw a faint glimpse of my `nameless love' as I passed by him in the park. We didn't talk at all today, but that night I had the most peculiar dream! He and I were alone at the lake and we were kissing. Then he told me he loved me, and we went for a ride on a-“ she tries to grab the book, but he levitates out of her reach, “PONY!”

 

Everyone whales in laughter as Raven starts to cry. “Azarath Metreon Zenthos!” She says and she catches the book after Crow gets knocked over. She starts to run while crying, and runs to the river. The bridge isn't there, so she uses her magic to make the book levitate, and she swims across in tears, and gets out soaked, but still runs on.

 

“Whadid' I do?” Crow says as he stands there looking shocked, and one of Raven's friends hits him on the head.

 

“A diary is a personal thing! You can't just read it to everyone!”

 

“Oh…” he says as he flies after her, but can't find her.

 

The next day she was nowhere to be found, and her mother cried all day. Her stepfather pretended to act sad, but didn't do a good job.

 

“It's all your fault Crow!” her friends yelled at him, “She ran away to earth because of you!”

 

“I… I didn't mean to…” he said, holding back tears.

 

The flashback ends, and Crow notices he is crying. He can't stop and he walks out of the hall, and tries to find something to take his mind off of her. He fails and collapses in front of her door again, and she comes running out.

 

“Crow? What's wrong?” she asks as he sits on the floor in a puddle of tears, and she takes him into her room.

 

He falls over in tear again. He realizes that he woke her. It is 4:35 am.

 

He manages to cry the words, “I'm Sorry,” before he passes out and she goes to bed.

 

Raven gets into bed because he's asleep and asks to herself, “What for, Love?”
