Whoo! I'm back with chapter 5! But this enemy has something to do with the past lives of Shawn and Karen. What is in store for the friends? Find out now in `Dragon Keeper chapter 5: A Deadly Old Rival'

--------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------

Shawn: Uhm... (staring at the sword he received from what had once been a hanging on the wall)

Elora: Wow... (Her hair was so windblown by the encounter between the two and the hanging that she looks like 002 from Cyborg 009) I... never thought... I'd be almost knocked over... by... a wall... (falls over)

(Karen is looking down at the stone that was added to her necklace, but when she tries to close her hands around it, she feels a searing pain in her hand.)

Karen: Ahh! (She looks at her hand and finds that the stone from the wallhanging formed a thin layer in the shape of the very object it had originated from.) What... happened to my hand?

(Shawn looks up in realization that his hand also has the marking of the dragon wrapped around the sword) A... dragon?

Hano: That is the marking of royalty.

Jessica: But, they're not royalty.

Hano: Their ancestors were-

Renee: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!

(Elora quickly got up off of the floor from the surprise of the scream)

Elora: What's going on?

Elora: That's Renee! Hurry let's get down stairs so we can see how cool her wounds look- I mean, so we can help!

(Hano looks at her suspiciously, trying to figure out as to why she would say something of the sort when her friend might be in danger. They rush downstairs to find three Dark Archers with his bow pointing at Renee with an arrow in it, ready to fire)

Elora: GHAAAAAAAH!!! They're following meeee!

Hano: Shawn! We need to fight!

Shawn: Eh?

Hano: What are you waiting for?

Shawn: I've never used a sword in my life! Much less having killed someone before!

Hano: First off, Shonoru was your past life, and second, they aren't alive!

Shawn: Erm... ok, here goes! (He swings the sword easily and cuts off the arm of one of the Dark Archers which upon falling to the floor turns to a pile of dust) Woah... I wonder... (He cuts through the middle of the gruetesc creature causing the top to disintegrate and the legs to remain and begin running into a wall.) Hehe... this could be fun.

(The very same mysterious watcher from Chapter 2's voice fills the room with a frightening echoing tone)

Mysterious watcher: Thank you for collecting the final piece of the puzzle for me, girl. Now I shall be taking it.

Karen: What? No!

Mysterious watcher: You really want to sacrifice you grandmother's life?

(He steps past the Dark Archers and out of the shadows to reveal a boy about the same age as Hano with blue hair that reaches down to the tips of his shoulders. He has piercing red eyes and a scar across his right cheek in the shape of an `X'. Karen's grandmother is fighting the grip of his arm which he has wrapped around her neck, while holding a blade made of energy in his free hand which is held dangerously close to her neck.)

Mysterious watcher: Oh, and if you're wondering, my name is Rashujo.

Karen: Get away from my Grandma!

Rashujo: (smirks) I'm afraid the only thing that will change my mind on her death is if you hand over the stones.

K's Grandma: Don't do it! He'll kill you if you give them to him!

Rashujo: Quiet! (He hits her with the hard grip of the blade)

Karen: Grandma!

(She tries to run over to her Grandmother whom Rashujo dropped on the floor after she fell unconscious, but is stopped by the grip of Johnathan)

Karen: What are you doing?! She's hurt!

Johnathan: He's doing it to make you give him the stones.

Karen: I don't care! That's my grandma!

Rashujo: That's right, don't listen to him, he's the one against you.

Johnathan: Lying bastard! Karen! Don't listen to him! He wants to destroy Aronada AND Earth!

(Karen looks from Johnathan, to Rashujo, then to Shawn and Hano who are fighting the Dark Archers. She looks up at Rashujo and says as calmly as she can)

Karen: I will n-never give you the stones...

Rashujo: FOOL!!! (He takes the blade and thrusts it into the collapsed body on the floor and disappears in a swirling green smoke screen taking the Dark Archers with him)

Karen: GRANDMA!!!

(Renee, who has been sitting against the wall shaking since the two boys got the Archers' attention away from her, speaks up)

Renee: T-that's not your grandmother.

Karen: What are you talking about! This is her house and her face! I think I'd know how my grandma looks!

Renee: That's a shape sh-shifter!

Karen: No, it's her! It can't be anyone el-

(She turns back to look at the woman dropped on the floor to see the body grotesquely turn into the body of a creature with yellow fangs and an orange scaly body. The clothes it was wearing when in disguise disappear becoming a ratty pair of pants and a dirty white and patched shirt on which is now stained with green oozing blood.)

Karen: Then... where...

(They hear a pounding coming from the kitchen area and go to investigate)

Shawn: Where's that... coming from?

Elora: It's coming from here. (She points to a door with a simple hook latch on it)

Jessica: What's down there?

Karen: That's where my dad and his family would go when hurricanes and storms like that hit. I went exploring down there; it's full of dirt, spider webs, and shovels. The outside entrance is completely blocked off, even if it weren't, it wouldn't be safe. It's completely surrounded by spider webs, and the spiders might be poisonous.

(The banging on the door continues)

Renee: So... this entrance is safe... right?

Karen: Yeah, I went exploring here right before I came back and we got sucked into Aronada.

Shawn: Okay then... let's open it...

(They open the door and find Karen's REAL grandmother around her bound and gagged. It turns out the banging was her hitting a rock she had gotten from down the stairs of which she slowly climbed and was using her barely free hands to hit it against the door.)

Karen: Grandma! (She quickly drops down on her knees to untie her grandmother, luckily they had tied a cloth gag around her mouth, because wrinkled skin isn't so easy to un-stick from tape and band-aids) Are you okay Grandma?

K's REAL Grandma: Y-yes (Regaining her composure) they tied me up about an hour ago.

Shawn: You mean Rashujo's Dark Archers?

K's Grandma: You know about Rashujo?!

Elora: Well, Duh! They just attacked us in your living room!

Jessica: (slap) Don't be rude!

K's Grandma: I suppose you found the sword and the final stone. (She says vaguely while staring at Shawn's new sword and all five stones hanging from the necklace around Karen's neck)

Karen: Y-yes. Grandma, I think you should lie down. You're cold, come on, I'll take you to your room.

K's Grandma: Thank you, I don't see how your parents can say you're calm one minute and exuberant the next. You're always such an angel around me.

(Jessica, Shawn, Renee, Elora, and Johnathan all make sarcastic coughs and look away avoiding Karen's eyes as she gives them all a nasty looks. Karen and Hano leave the kitchen area, guiding Karen's Grandmother to her room.)

Jessica: I'll make some soup!

Elora: I'll help!

(They begin looking through the cabinets for pots and soup cans)

Johnathan: I don't know how she does it...

Shawn: What?

Johnathan: How Karen becomes so nice and responsible when someone's in trouble. She's even nice to the people she hates when they're sad or somethin'.

Shawn: Hmm? (Looks up at the ceiling thinking) Now that you mention it, you're right. She's does that in the MSN chats too. When someone's got a problem she jumps right in there and gives `em support and stuff.

Renee: (Looks around) Erm... I just noticed something... (Shawn and Johnathan look over and Jessica and Elora look up from the soup they were making.)

Elora: What's that? (She has a spoon up to her mouth testing the soup)

Renee: Where's Koroko?

Jessica: Huh? You're right? I didn't notice he was gone.

Johnathan: Me neither.

Shawn: I did, but I just didn't speak up.

(Elora looks at him with a `You're lying and if you don't tell the truth I'll kill you' look.)

Shawn: Eh! Actually I didn't notice either. (A huge sweatdrop appears on his head and he breathes a great sigh of relief as Elora smiles with satisfaction and turns back to the soup.)

In Karen's Grandmother's room

*************************************************************

Karen: Are you feeling better?

K's Grandma: Yes, thank you for the help.

Karen: Grandma? Why were they attacking me? Why do they want these stones so bad?

K's Grandma: Because of two reasons. The stones can not only be used to protect, but also to kill. And the other reason being that you are the reincarnation of the princess Kimitsuna, and Shawn of the prince Shonoru, causing you to be a threat to their plans.

Karen: How do you know so much about the Aronadan history?

Hano: Because she grew up there.

Karen: (Karen turns to look at Hano) What?!

Hano: She used to be my age back when she lived there too.

Karen: W-why didn't you tell me this? (She turns back to her Grandmother who is looking at the wall opposite Karen with a sad look on her face)

K's Grandma: Because when you were little, you would always tell me that you hated being different than the other children at your school. That, and your father wouldn't let me tell you.

(Karen drops down to her knees on the floor)

Karen: How... could you?

(Karen's Grandma turns to see tears budding in Karen's eyes)

Karen: I-I thought that families... were supposed to trust each other, and tell each other the truth...

K's Grandma: It-it's not like that!

Karen: You've lied to me since I was born! Next thing I know it's gonna turn out that I'm adopted!

K's Grandma: You are not adopted! And even if you were, we would love you just the same.

Karen: This is so stupid! (She gets up and leaves the room, the slamming of the front porch door is heard and she goes marching down the sidewalk and away from the house. After she leaves, Hano re-enters the kitchen.)

Elora: What was that?

Hano: Karen got mad at her grandmother and left.

Shawn: What? There are people from Aronada who are probably putting prices on her head as we speak!

(He runs to the front door and opens it and sets off to find Karen. After about 3 minutes of looking, he finds her by an old boardwalk that over looks a river running under the town.)

Shawn: Karen?

(Karen looks up, her eyes slightly red from crying)

Karen: What, more news on how I'm an alien?

Shawn: What are you talking about?

Karen: My family's from Aronada, and they never even took the dammed time to tell me.

Shawn: Well my family's from there too, and you don't see me whining about it!

Karen: It's just that... I thought I knew... I mean...

Shawn: Hmm?

Karen: All this time my parents have been telling me I'm ½ Irish, 1/8 Scottish, and from all of these other countries, and it turns out I'm not from any country. (She stares out to the point where the trees overlap the river as 15 dead pigeons go by with the current) I'm just... Aronadan...

Shawn: Hmm... Guess that means the government's coming after us.

Karen: Hunh? What are you talking about?

Shawn: You know, how in those Sci-fi movies the government comes and takes the aliens away and dissect `em. And when they're done, they put `em back together and Cryogenically freeze `em till they have the technology to do what they couldn't do at first.

Karen: Eww! That's gross! I'm not getting dissected!

Shawn: Eh, don't worry, you're really human.

Karen: And what makes you say that?

Shawn: Because the shape shifter told me before you were stuck in that room.

Karen: And why would you believe it? (Glaring for answers)

Shawn: It's something that Elora said afterwards...

Karen: Elora?

Shawn: Yeah, she said `I felt like I knew every word they were going to say about 10 words before they said it, and I have this really strong feeling that they're telling the truth', plus she didn't have that sarcastic tone to her voice…

Karen: That's weird...

Shawn: Wha'd you expect? It's Elora.

Karen: No, I mean that she knew every word before they said it. How?

Shawn: Think she's psychic? (A grin on his face)

Karen: Sure. Oh look! A flying pig!

(They go quiet looking at the water rushing over the rocks and a pig goes flying over their heads)

Karen: Thanks.

Shawn: Hmm?

Karen: You helped me with my problem.

Shawn: Nothing like those thousands of times you've helped me with decisions.

Karen: I don't think telling you which Anime DVD to buy when we're at FYE is much of a thing to brag about.

Shawn: Meh, you've done other things.

Karen: Yeah, but the DVD thing is what the usual helping is.

Shawn: Hey, look, everyone's coming this way.

(Karen turns to see all of her friends coming along with Koroko, who had been asleep on the roof of the house the whole time)

Jessica: Hey! Why'd you run off, we were worried about you?

(Karen gives a weak smile)

Karen: Sorry, I just... needed some time to think.

Elora: Yeah yeah, one big happy family. Can we get on with it? We're going back to Aronada.

Jessica: (slap) BE NICE!!!

Elora: Owiie!

Karen: I'm ready.

(Hano punches in the coordinates and they're soon off back to Aronada *WEE!* HEY!!! WAIT!!! You can't leave the narrator/author behind! *Grabs Koroko's tail before it disappears*)

--------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------

Yay! Another chapter completed and more unanswered questions for you to ponder over, such as: IS Elora psychic? What's the other's powers? Is the author going to appear in the comic when she has the *&%^&$ time to draw it? Well I'm not gonna answer those now, cuz I'm gonna have to spend my time working on Chapter 6! So you'll have to wait until I'm done with chapter number- c'mon, say it with me- siiiiiiix or six for short, or for even shorter 6.

C ya next time! (Tries to disappear like Rashujo, but makes the mistake of using lime Jell-O instead of smoke) WAAAAAAA!!!
