Chapter One

“Raye, we need to leave now!” My dad yelled at me. I was upstairs in my room; all I need to do was grab my bag.
I ran downstairs to find my two suitcases by the door. Once I left the house, I would not enter that door until Christmas break. I would be glad to leave for four months; it would give me a rest from this chaotic part of my life.
“Raye, come on, we want you to arrive on time don't we?” My mum said.
I just nodded. A school was a school, but I chose this one because it had a good writers program. The only thing my parents didn't like about it was the fact that it was a boarding school.
“Raye, have fun.” My sister teased.
“Remember Sara, bad sisters get a visit from the evil demon.” I said to her.
“Then why aren't you expecting the demons' visit?” She was rubbing my nerves the wrong way.
“Sara! Don't be rude to Raye.” Mum then turned her attention towards me. “Raye, that doesn't mean you, can be rude.”
It was pointless to argue.
“Raye, get in the truck, now!” Dad said.
The car was Mums' and the truck belonged to Dad. And because he wouldn't get lost on the road, he needed to drive me to my new school. That meant I had to ride in the truck through the state. I grabbed my bag and a suitcase; it was time for me to go.
Dad grabbed my other suitcase. We loaded both into the back and climbed in the truck. I waved at Sara and Mum. I spotted my cat Mischief, I knew she'd miss me, but I would miss her too.
After starting the engine and shifting gears, we reversed out of the driveway and drove down the road.

After a few moments I got bored. I reached for my bag and withdrew a book and my C-D player. The entire trip to the academy would take three hours. The first semester would be four months long. I had ten thick books for entertainment.
“You have your phone, correct?”
“Yes, and I have my charger.” I replied.
“Now, this is only a trial. After your last school we wanted to find a way that you would have better grades. A boarding school may be the only way.”
I closed my book in annoyance. What he had said was a partial truth.
“If I'm forced to learn something like science and history, I won't retain it. What I like about the academy is that I don't have to learn them.” I told Dad.
“What are you going to choose as your courses?”
“English, French, Japanese, hopefully join the school newspaper, maybe join some other after school writing clubs.”
“That's it?”
“The school offers special writing classes that I plan to take too.”
“Remember what I said before, have a backup plan. What if you don't become a writer? What will you do then?”
“I'll keep trying. For a few years I'll work in a bookstore. I have to be close to books.”
I could tell that he didn't quite think my answer was good enough. Although he was annoyed by it, he didn't comment further on the subject.
For the rest of the trip I read and listened to my C-D's. I never liked the bands that were out there, but there were a few songs I liked and managed to download off the computer and onto a disk. What I really liked were anime soundtracks. Anime and manga have inspired to become a writer, but I could never finish a story. I always had another idea at school (one of the reasons I didn't do too well).
