`That's it! I don't know about the rest of you but I refuse to rehearse anymore,' Hitsugi proclaimed loudly as he collapsed cross-legged onto the floor, his words of protest accompanied by the almost painful `thunk' of his guitar as it made contact with the carpeting.
Ruka's lips quirked upwards into a smirk that he couldn't quite suppress at the guitarist's antics. They hadn't actually been rehearsing for that long, but from the way he was acting, you would have thought that he had been forcefully chained to his guitar. However the rest of Nightmare had seen Hitsugi's revolt coming the minute he showed up with pink cat ears sticking out of his straw coloured hair.
`Always have to be the dramatic one, don't you Hitsugi-chan?' Niya teased good naturedly, `but I have to agree with you this time, all this traveling and rehearsing has left me dead tired,' he said as he wiped his brow in a theatrical fashion.
`Well, since the concert is only tomorrow…and we do have a feel for the acoustics in here now, I suppose we can afford to skip afternoon rehearsal,' Yomi remarked as he looked out at the presently empty hall. `And if I may say so, I think we sounded great,' he added with only the faintest trace of conceit.
`The instruments were fine but the vocals sounded terrible,' an anonymous voice suddenly called out from the back of the auditorium that was currently shrouded in darkness.
`Who the fuck said that?!' Yomi snarled as he scrambled to his feet. His eyes narrowed as he tried to pick out the owner of the insulting comment but couldn't as the glare of the spotlight almost blinded him. `House lights!' he ordered.
The vocalist tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for light to slowly flood the hall until finally it was bright enough for him to see the attractive blonde standing in the aisles. He had a positively wicked grin on his face, which was emphasised by the cigarette dangling out of the corner of his mouth.
Yomi's brown eyes immediately softened.
`You're one to talk, during your concert I cant tell whether your singing or murdering a cat,' he retorted as he made his way to the front of the stage.
`At least I don't screech like one in heat,' the blonde replied as he walked forward to meet him.
But even as they exchanged jibes, Yomi had his hands firmly braced on the older man's shoulders as Kyo grabbed him by the waist, lifted him off the stage and straight into his waiting embrace. Slipping his arms around his lover's neck, Yomi gave Dir en Grey's frontman a lingering kiss on the lips.
`You're early,' he commented affectionately. Kyo shook his head.
`You're late,' he corrected, motioning to his watch.
`You're both nauseating,' Hitsugi said in disgust as he pretended to throw up. `God Kyo, I can just about accept our Yomi-chan here being all Mills&Boons but you…you're suppose to be all evil and spewing blood for fuck's sake.'
Yomi groaned inwardly as he felt his boyfriend stiffen before firmly pushing him away. Whether Hitsugi had meant to or not, he had just chosen to push Kyo's trigger button, which explained his sudden shift of attitude. The blonde was so extraordinarily sensitive about their relationship that one wrong comment could send him into a sour mood for days, which could prove a right royal pain in the ass for the Nightmare vocalist.
`Lets go Yomi,' he said brusquely, `see you guys around.' He tossed this goodbye over his shoulder as he stalked away.
`Thanks a buggering lot Hitsugi,' Yomi hissed angrily as he hastily grabbed his bag and chased after his temperamental boyfriend. He could almost feel the interested eyes of his bandmates watching them as he persistently tried to grab Kyo's hand only to have the blonde pull away every time.
His heart sinking, the younger vocalist finally decided to give up and settled for just walking instep beside his lover, his chin buried dejectedly into his chest. However he received a pleasant surprise a moment later when Kyo unexpectedly pulled him close to drop a kiss on his cheek, his lip ring cold in comparison to the warm fleeting touch of his tongue.
Unknown to the both of them, Sakito saw all of this and his lips lifted upwards as he saw his friend offer Kyo a loving half smile in return. However, there was no happiness in this smile, rather a trace of wistfulness along with an air of resignation that was almost palpable.
The guitarist was so deep into his own thoughts that he didn't notice a pair of dark eyes observing him closely, while at the same time a different set of eyes were looking at the both of them with suspicion.
`Id better go as well,' Hitsugi said putting away his guitar as he scratched at the base of his cat ears, `Yuhiko finishes work in a while and he said that I could have anything off the menu while waiting for him.'
Niya rolled his eyes at his friend.
`I swear Hitsugi, the only reason you date him is because he's a master chef,' he said accusingly.
`That's not true,' Hitsugi said seriously before he broke into a grin, `I date him because he has an enormous penis.' He couldn't contain his laughter as he delivered this parting shot before noisily marching off the stage.
`Urgh…more than we needed to know you hornball,' Niya stuck out his tongue at him, which only made the guitarist laugh even harder.
`Don't come waddling to us when you're too fat to play the guitar you glutton,' Sakito couldn't resist adding and chuckled when Hitsugi flashed him the middle finger before slamming the door behind him.
`Talking about food, I'm starving and I need a drink…screw the acceptable time,' Ruka said matter-of-factly as he placed his drumsticks to one side. `Join me Niya?' he asked, his words a polite invitation but Niya knew the offer wasn't as innocent as it seemed.
`I cant Ruka, sorry but I have a couple of important errands to run. The bank, dry-cleaning and the like,' he replied, injecting what he hoped was the correct measure of regret into his voice. `Why don't you take Sakito?' he added, suddenly catching hold of the guitarist's sleeve.
Sakito was so startled by this that he missed the hard look of surprise that Ruka shot the bassist.
`Erm..Id really like to Ruka, but I also have some things that I have to attend to urgently,' he said hoping his tone sounded sincere enough.
The truth was Sakito had never felt truly comfortable around the drummer. Ruka had a tendency to be extremely quiet and withdrawn to the point that he seemed almost cold, which was such a contrast to his remarkably pretty features and Cupid's bow mouth.
`Another time perhaps?' he added quickly in an effort not to ruffle his bandmate's feathers.
However by this time Ruka was far too annoyed to act civil. He opened his mouth to snappily answer back when a sudden movement by the guitarist stopped him.
Later when he had a chance to reflect, Ruka wasn't sure what exactly had triggered it. Maybe it had been the way Sakito's lips had shaped themselves into the most tempting of smiles, or perhaps it was due to the wisp of sadness Ruka had caught in his onyx coloured eyes.
Whatever it was, Ruka suddenly found himself overwhelmed by the urge to cover the guitarist's mouth with his. To force it open with his tongue and taste deep inside….to sink his teeth into that lush bottom lip and tangle his hands in Sakito's jagged cinnamon tinted hair.
He took a hurried step back as if shocked by what he had been thinking.
`Whatever,' he said in a gruff voice and what he hoped was a casual shrug of his shoulders. Turning his back to the both of them he silently collected his jacket before exiting stage left.
Sakito winced.
`Man, he sure can be moody,' he said lightly, pushing back his layered fringe with one hand.
`Hmm…' Niya answered nonchalantly but inside worry gnawed away at him. He had gotten a glimpse of Ruka's expression as he had walked past and it was clear to him that the drummer's emotions were all over the place.
After snapping the locks on his bass case shut, Niya rested his forehead against his clasped hands.
He had a seriously bad feeling about this.
