Fan Fiction ❯ Earth Anarchy - Princes of Earth ❯ Bearer of the Vortex ( Chapter 2 )
I awoke to a sweet chorus playing its concert just outside my bedroom window. The sun permeated the room, its soft hue alighting the darkest of corners that curled up within themselves like little vampires trying to escape melting by the sun's rays. One of those so-called rays fell upon my eye and blasted upon me a squinting annoyance to which I awoke. Annoyed, I rubbed my eye and squinting, I gazed about the room. Happening that my gaze fell upon the alarm clock, which lay on the floor, I suddenly became aghast with horror. I had indeed overslept! AGAIN!
In horror, I ripped the soft covers of the bed aside and flew out the bedroom door. Fluttering in and out between parades of swinging doors like a startled pigeon, I flitted down the stairs and leaped out the door only to land in a tumbling mess upon the yard. Hurriedly shoving my stuff into my book bag, I skedaddled out the fence door and around the block in a trail of smoke.

"And so it is this miraculous piece of cells that allows for all of the reactions needed in daily body functions that accounts for life as we know it. This is the phospholipid bilayer, the layer in the plasma membrane of cells that is responsible for the intake of molecules such as oxygen and water and other valuable nutrients to sustain life in the cell. And as for the many different……"ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzZZZZZZZZZZ.. (Author's note: Snoring has been echoing in the room for the past hour and only until now has it become loud enough to distrupt class lectures). Giggles begin erupting from various locations around the classroom and the teacher blinks stupidly. The teacher sighs and walks up to the source of the snoring, his lab coat billowing in his wake, and looks it straight in the face of the perpetrator. Drool is slowly collecting its vile little substance into a shimmering puddle on the desk etched in doodles and carvings.
Drawing his breath slowly, he erupts in one, clean scream "MS. SONOMIE~~~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" screams the perpetrator and tumbles out of her chair backwards, sending school supplies on a mission to fixate themselves in the small grooves in the ceiling panels and go where no school supplies have gone before. Ranting and panting like an animal stricken with rabies, she stands up, faints, and plops with a THUD on the floor, laying sprawled across the aisle.
***** Later at lunch….****
"That was quite a show you put on for us in Bio today…hehe," chuckles Sanjuro., "Man, I always accounted that that class would be the most dull one this entire year. You really turned my expectations upside down! If you keep putting on shows like today's, I might even like his class!"
"Shut UP," I groan. I poke at the spaghetti and fumble around with it, finally deciding to NOT eat it.
"Aw lighten up. You may even go down in the yearbooks as the `Village Idiot' of the year. I can picture the headlines all over the bulletin boards : School Idiot Unmasked!" laughs Sanjuro.
"Lighten up on our little Village Idiot….she hasn't gotten much sleep this past week." Comments Ayogi.
"Not at all? Well, why the hell not?! You can't seriously be doing homework..Right? You can't! It's just not humanly possible for you…You sleep every opportunity you get! Don't tell me you're ACTUALLY doing homework?" questions Sanjuro with a perplexed look, "OH MY GOD! You are?! WOW! …T…T..t.This is an event! Gimme it! I'll show it to the teacher so she can hang it up for the world to see!" yelled Sanjuro…who started rambling on and on and on and on.
"What homework? We had homework?" I asked, half asleep.
"Well there goes THAT theory…and to even think different of your habits…is ludacris..I had such high hopes for you..and they just….washed away….like the current in the stream..just like that…just..POOF…gone," rambled Sanjuro., "…you lazy bum."
"Oh shut the hell up," I whiplashed and chucked a carton of milk at him. It splattered all over him and I fell over laughing.
"Leave her be, Sanj. She hasn't been getting sleep because her dreams keep her away from a restful night's sleep." Commented Ayogi. Boy do I love my sis sometimes.
"Dreams? Like…nightmares?"
"No…like recurring dreams that won't leave me be."
"Ooooooh…those kinds…Well there is prolly a reasonable explanation for them. You probably have something bugging you."
"No I don't."
"Could be your homework calling to you telepathically"
"I doubt that homework can take on the form of a beautiful man and the Earth being uprooted."
"Must be some serious homework problems then."
"Shut up."
"Just trying to help. Hey, have you ever even done ONE homework? I mean, just ONE in your life….cuz like…"
"Shut the fuck up!!!!! DAMN!" I just yelled and buried my face in my arms. He sat there, dazed, and shrugged it off.
"Well, maybe it could be a prophecy to you of the future." said Ayogi.
"I don't believe in that. Dreams are dreams. They don't fortell futures. They're just dreams." I said.
"Well what happens in these dreams?" said Sanjuro.
"Well, the guy keeps asking me to take his hand and go with him."
"And what do you do everytime?"
"I try to flee and the results are the same: I end up in a desert and I almost die in apocalypse of Earth being uprooted"
"So what does it tell you?"
"HOW the hell should I know??"
"Well…obviously the dreams keep recurring for one reason."
"Which is what?"
"Well, let's put it this way…What would happen if you took his hand in the dreams?"
"I don't know."
"Well there ya go..There's your solution."
****The Following Night..*****
"Please……take my hand..It is where you belong. It is WHO you are," said the stranger, cloaked in billowing white robes with hand outstretched. Again he called:
"Come." So…..instead of fleeing, I walked up to him and I took his hand. A brilliant white flash enveloped us and I saw him smile until the white cleared out everything.
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNGGGG~~~~~~!!!!!!!!!! A spasm torpedoed up my body, my spine instanteously stiffened and I jolted upwards at the sound of my damn alarm clock. I felt the adrenaline cascading through the rivers in my body and I keeled over, breathing heavily and my heart throbbing violently. It felt as if it were literally slamming itself against the walls of the rib cage in a furious attempt to flee in fear. Subconsciously reaching over with my left arm, I slammed on that damn blasted contraption as hard I possibly could, finally being rid of panging that reverberated through my head. With a heavy head, I fell back into the bed, sleeping overcoming me once more. And the dream…..never reoccurred again..

The whirring breezes of cars speeding by stirred up storms of tumbling soot and leaves, flitting up rows of skirts, and smacking debris against anxious pairs of legs standing by the side of the road. Warm zephyrs rattled the near-bare branches of overhead trees, sending blizzards of tiny flower petals showering down upon its inhabitants strolling around. The permeating light filtered through its branches and scattered flakes of golden sunshine upon the awakening earth in a mosaic of colors that danced with every touch of the winds. The sounds of a city awakening started to hustle and bustle about as morning rush hour commenced. The buses started on their daily routes through the city and subways lurched forward on the overhead railways, their churning wheels echoing sounds through distant neighborhoods. The buildings and skyscrapers seemed to play with these sounds as if demons sat upon them and battered the noises from one building to the next in a game of ping-pong. Anxious bus passengers routinely glanced at their watches at the side of the road, scanning the horizon for any signs that they wouldn't be late to their appointed destinations.
"Where the hell is she?!?!" yelled Ayogi, grinding her teeth as the second-hand skittered across the surface of her watch. "I know she is a lazy, sleeping BUM but this is later even for her!" The familiar face of the local city bus rounded the corner and halted to a stop before the group. Ayogi grasped the handles of her book bag, sighed, looked around one last time, and boarded the bus. She took her seat by the window overlooking the road she and her sister take to get to the stop. Not a sign of the girl anywhere. She rubbed her face with her hands and sighed deeply. What an idiot! That girl would sleep through the end of the Earth if given the chance! Do I have to HIDE alarm clocks in her room to wake her up now or what?!? She felt the bus brakes being relieved and looked out the window one last time for even to catch a glimpse of her idiot sister running around the corner so that she may call out to the driver to wait. Still nothing but blizzards of flower petals entertaining the wind outside. The engine growled and the bus began to creep forward and gradually increased speed, lurching around corners and heading onto the main road, disappearing at last from sight.
*************
Huffing and puffing with exhaustion, I grasped the trunk of a random tree and leaned my body weight upon it so that I might have relieved the pain and stress of rigorous running. Heat sizzled from beneath my neck, chest, arms and back. A sudden gust enveloped this heat and sucked it out from me, evaporating into the distance as I felt the cold surge cleanse my paining and aching muscles. Breathing heavily, I glanced upon my wristwatch and again was aghast with the lateness of my being. Most likely I missed the bus. I sighed and looked around. A forest was opened up before me and I noted a faint trail leading into it. I recognized the trail as a shortcut to other bus stops and I began to gather my things to head into it because I had nothing else to lose.
Dark greens were here sharply contrasted with the bright green and golden tones allotted to the forest shrubbery by the filtering sunlight through the dense canopies. Magnanimous rays poured and seeped through every possible crevice in the canopies, flickering like ballerinas in a theatre with every gust of wind that shook up the canopies. Still, dark places lurked and leaped about as if forest sprites played with them like sheets on a bed, lurching the sheets here and there. I stepped onto the beginning of the trail and almost immediately the aromas of a dew-soaked earth permeated into my nostrils and delighted the senses in an aromatic wrap of ecstasy, that from which I could not allot myself to part from. Seas of undersea light ribbons danced upon my body with every breeze and colorful flecks of feathers dotted the trees, serenading the forestscape with their melodies. I could not help myself but to smile at all the joys surrounding me. The wind picked up around my legs and curled in its ascension, flowing in a stream through the leaves and whistling in an orchestra of flutes. Dew droplets hanging off of branches glistened and ignited in star-flickering flashes of light as diamonds splattered upon yards of royal green velvet cloaks. Pure magic echoed from the forest, sunshine its precursor, and shadow its bearer.
I proceeded to skip merrily through the forest by way of the seemingly endless trail which wound about like a river through fields and cliffs and hills. But then as all merriment was cast into the sunshine, a dark cloud bestowed its presence upon the forest.
Overcast skies clouded the horizon and the dancing ribbons faded into the depths of the forest, whose darkness loomed in eerie silence from all sides. The sky grew ever darker and shrieks of startled wings fluttered through the tangles of brush. Rumbles sounded in the distance and started to roll themselves up to directly above me. My pace quickened and I skipped along the jagged pathway, hoping to find a way out of the cursed labyrinth. Thunder roared overhead and trembled the very ground beneath me. Dark blue/purple/gray skies loomed in the distance and were growing like festering wounds in the sky, intensifying in hue and in strength. Like the pus in a cut, their size increased immeasurably and they started to pour out from one another in endless tumbles and folds that grew blacker with ever passing second. Frigid air swept down and threatened to send me flying backwards if I did not submit. Since I did not back down, it wrapped around me like a blanket and squeezed, forcing every breath out of me as a vacuum of space opened up around me. Everything around this vacuum started to lift off the ground and was lurched into the center of the vacuum. I grabbed hold of the nearest tree trunk and clung on for dear life. What on earth was going on??? At this point, differentiating one roll of clouds from another was a futile attempt, for the entire sky turned black as night and darkness came over me. Suddenly the thunder crashed and roared like the splitting of a gigantic glacier that, when falling into the sea, creates a shockwave so massive that it totally incapacitates any matter within its shock range and sends the rest into a state of suspended paralysis. The shockwave from the blast rained down upon me and it felt as if gravity had quadrupled in amount upon me and I crippled under the weight, half-stunned by the blast. Then the lightning rained down in spasms of fury like a severed wire.
By this point, hearing had lost me and I looked up at the sky half-stunned and slipping into unconsciousness. My eyelids were gradually closing and I had no energy, no strength left to me to overcome it and my body was crippling. Every bone in my body was quadrupled in weight, every ligament nearly torn, and my lungs collapsed on themselves making breathing a life-threatening ordeal. . Lightning bolts splattered themselves all upon the ground before me, leaving intricate markings of glass all upon the ground, a memoir of its trails. I could taste the burning and searing of the sand on the ground to glass by the lightning bolts and their rancid smell burned the inside of my nostrils, making it almost impossible to breathe without breathing in a rush of air that randomly caught fire before me in the middle of empty, suspended space. The firey rush of air burned what was rest of my lungs and I felt the vacuum taking its claim of me, dragging me into a vortex fury which opened up from the center of the revolving rocks. I could literally here the clouds saluting themselves and applauding a success as my approach to unconsciousness was quickly hastened. Lighting bolt flashes intensified and out of nowhere, their colors changed : first to fluorescent pink, then to yellows, greens, blues, reds, oranges, purples, whites and then into mixes of all colors, illuminating the forestscape into a collage of raving colors. I had never seen something so spectacular nor something so deadly in all of my life as the rainbows danced in the blackness of the skies.
My eyes closed and I fell into the unconscious state. I vanished into the vortex and as soon as the storm came, it disappeared, leaving only an evaporating mist in its wake. The wind washed away all signs of my struggle from the dirt and sunshine poured in once again, as if the entire scene never happened at all. The birds returned to their melodies and life returned to the way it was before the incident, as if it had no recollection of what happened…As if time was stopped……
