Emerald Glory - Chapter Two: Battlefield Emotions

From what I have observed, the most simple of a pilot's inner feelings has the power to sway the outcome of an entire battle either towards victory or defeat. There are few pilots that can truly control such emotions, so instead of training pilots to harness their emotional controls we simply train them to avoid such swaying emotions in battle. Still, there are a few that can control them. These are the best of Sol's pilots. They are a chosen few that can realign Fate itself to whatever they see fit…They are our ONLY hope…"

"What is it Ryuu?" Sasha questioned him, noticing his distraction as they ran towards the Hangar bay.

"There's someone out there…"

"What? Outside…already!"

"No, not one of ours. I, I can hear him…in my head. I know how nuts it sounds, but he's out there, inside one of them…and I will save him!"

Together they arrived at the bay ahead of the others, save for Kat, the twins, and Strife who were just finished changing out of their dress uniforms.

"Always just in the nick of time, eh Ryuu?" Strife gloated.

Ryuu didn't even bother. He was in such a rush he didn't even change out of his dress uniform.

Sasha smiled as Ryuu ran over to the cockpit of his Glory and touched his hand to it. The cockpit shell momentarily glowed and then opened up.

"What the hell are you doing? You can't pilot in your dress uniform!" Strife yelled at him.

"Watch me!"

"You stupid son of a bitch!"

"Let him go!" Hat ordered him, "He knows exactly what he's doing."

Ryuu simply nodded to her in thanks and steeped into the cockpit.

Kat of course was the luckiest of the pilots. She had the honor of piloting one of the four know Superior Glorys, Nobel. It was one of four recovered by the human survivors of the 7 Days of Fire just before Earth was enveloped by it's own sun going Supernova. The twins, Ryuu, and Strife were not so lucky…but still had better Glorys than regular pilots. They had Sol MK II Glorys. They were currently the top of the line and entrusted only to the top students.

The cockpit of Ryuu's Sol MK II burst to life as he steeped into it. He sat down in the contemporary seat and started up its personalized systems. The cockpit shut and he grabbed a hold of the control sticks. He ran a hand across the keypad in a practiced maneuver and opened a visual channel to his partner, Sasha, who was inside the hangar bay working the controls to launch him out.

"I'm good to go, Sash!" He smiled at her over the visual.

"I'm disconnecting the licks now, you know the drill…" She replied.

"Right!"

Sasha typed away increasingly fast at the controls and finally won.

There was a slight rumble and some interesting noises as the licking arms pulled away from Ryuu's Glory and it transferred to the catapult.

"All systems up…" Ryuu called to her.

"Good. Final checks…good! Disabling final locks and preparing for launch." She called to him. "Please make sure your tray tables are in their upright and locked positions, please not that the no smoking sign is on…lock your seatbelts, sit back and enjoy the ride!" Sasha joked as she hit the launch button.

The Glory plummeted out of Sol at break-neck speed and thrust out into space.

"Alright Panther…the rest is up to you." Sasha finished up.

"I thought I told you to quit calling me that.." Ryuu said as he headed for the approaching Blaze.

"What can I say…old habits die hard."

"Even with how much I hate them, I can't help but admire them. In a way they're kind of beautiful."

"Are you serious?" Sasha questioned his sanity.

"Yes. I find them especially beautiful when their fiery hulls shatter and burst after I beat the Fucking Shit out of them!" He yelled from his Glory.

"Whatever you're gonna do…hurry it up! The others are on their way out now…" Sasha yelled desperately.

"No choice left…" Ryuu thought to himself. "I'll have to risk it!" He whispered.

"What?" Sasha wondered. "Ryuu, you can't!" She screamed at him, "You can't keep wasting away your energy. If you so this now, you could die!"

"What is it? What's wrong?" The engineers of the other four pilots asked, noticing Sasha's obvious distress.

The four of them held Sasha up as they all watched the cockpit camera of Ryuu's Glory. None of them noticed it then, but tears were slowly traversing Sasha's cheeks and dripping down.

"What? What's happening to him?" Strife's engineer asked, rather frightened.

Inside the cockpit, Ryuu's eyes had begun to glow green and were discharging little bursts of green electricity.

"…We're not sure what it is…" Kat's engineer broke in, "What we do know is that it's a state of emotional height on the battlefield that allows one to break certain laws that bind our universe.

"So what's the point of that?" Tye's engineer wondered aloud.

Kat's engineer just sighed, "…are you that inept? It enhances his speed, dexterity, strength, basic skill, and sight uniquely to suit his ability. On top of that it gives him energy manipulation.

"Energy manipulation?" Lisa's engineer wondered.

"Yes. He can use his own life energy to generate barriers, and energy waves, but it will decrease his life." Sasha said through her tears.

"It's why Kat's hair is silver-white" Her engineer finished.

Back outside in the deep of space, three of the four pilots approaching the ongoing battle stared in awe.

Ryuu's Glory gave off a green glow as it sliced through the first of the oncoming Blaze with its sword. The glowing green blade sliced through like a hot knife through butter. The Glory's eyes glowed momentarily, then the split Blaze shattered apart.

There was a long pause where none of the warriors moved, then the Panther accelerated again. With one fluid movement of its glowing sword it dismantled a group of six Blaze, and threw out a controlled engine burst that sent him through another group.

While the others could not see it, both Kat and the engineers back on Sol had picked up on what Ryuu was up to. He was cutting a path through the masses toward the obvious figurehead.

"Dammit! Stop now, Ryuu. You know if you keep this up that piece of shit Glory will kill you. Stop while you're still able…please!" Sasha cried.

"What do you mean it'll kill him?" Strife's engineer asked.

"The Mark IIs are advanced, but still now enough." Kat's engineer broke in, "They can't handle the high levels of energy output…and if he continues to increase it, the energy he'll give off will overload the Glory's system and cause feedback. Basically…it'll fry his heart."

"Then we've gotta get his ass back here before…"

Sasha cut off Lisa's engineer, "It's too late. Once he starts conducting energy like that we can't interfere."

"Why the Fuck not!" Tye's engineer yelled at her.

If you screw up his concentration now, God only knows what's happen. It's forbidden because of the danger involved." Kat's engineer commanded.

"Shit! He's almost there!" Lisa's engineer yelled.

"How…can he move that fast?!" Tye, Lisa, and even Strife's engineer quivered.

"This is your last chance you bastard!" Ryuu screamed, slicing through the last Blaze guarding their leader. "Who is it you're hiding?" He ordered as he placed his blade directly in front of the creature's neck. "Speak Dammit!!!"

The fiery eyes of the Blaze glowed dark and it turned its head to look directly at the cockpit of Ryuu's Glory…to look into his eyes.

The shock hit Ryuu like a wave of nausea. "Kyle?"
