Okay… yes, the title is a quote. It is from the song "The General" by Dispatch - which I don't own… Just to let you know, that was an official disclaimer… Okay! On with the story now! ^^

"Where… am I?"

Amy walked forward, her feet gliding silently over the black ground. She looked into the distance in front of her and saw trees, behind her was an immense stretch of ocean as far as the eye could see, and to either side were mountains, their peeks disappearing in the thick, distant clouds. The sun shone brightly overhead, signaling high-noon.

`Looks like the only way to go is into that forest.'

She took one last look at the cerulean ocean before advancing toward the forest.

The thick branches blocked all sunlight from reaching the undergrowth beneath her bare feet. There wasn't any sign of life amongst the plants, the soft rustle of the leaves being the only sound to reach her ears. She walked on for a few minutes before reaching a small clearing with a creek running down the center. Amy looked up to find a full moon directly over head, shining brightly amid the small pinpoints of light that were the stars. She strode to the edge of the creek, sat down and dipped her feet in, reveling in the feel of the cold water on her aching feet.

There was a sudden sound of a twig breaking, but, as it echoed through the forest, all was unusually quiet. She tried to stand, feeling that she should be panicking and running away, but she stayed calm and seated, listening as footsteps rustled ever closer to her. She heard the person stop no more that a foot behind her then crouch.

Amy slowly pulled her feet out of the stream and was pulled backwards into the person's arms. She made no move to protest, but instead settled into a comfortable position, listening to the steady sound of breathing behind her.

"What are you doing out here all alone," she heard Mitsukai ask from behind her. "You should have stayed at the house, or at least told me you were leaving."

"I didn't know I was leaving," she answered quietly, wishing him to speak again.

"That's okay. At least I've found you again," he told her, nuzzling the joint between her neck and shoulder with his nose, inhaling her intoxicating scent deeply. "Why do you always come here?"

"I've been here before? I… can't remember," she struggled, trying to reach the distant memories, long forgotten.

She heard the deep, melodic sound of his laughter, felt the soft caress of his breath on her exposed neck. He suddenly lowered himself from the crouch onto the ground, pulling her into a sitting position with him.

"Of course you have," he laughed at her. "Every time you have time to yourself, I find you here. Why is that?"

"I don't know what you're talking about," she told him truthfully.

Mitsukai ignored her, continuing to absorb her scent. He squeezed her shoulders before standing up and pulling her with him again, spinning her around to face him.

"I was worried that you might have gotten lost this time," he whispered, wrapping his arms around her.

All thought abruptly stopped in Amy's mind. Her brain sputtered, trying to comprehend what was happening, but that took quite a while. As Mitsukai released her, a dark blush began to slowly rise on her cheeks. He looked at her oddly; his head cocked to one side in question, but decided to look over it and turned to walk away. She watched him for a moment, the two gigantic, black, flowing wings waving back and forth in the breeze. She soon followed after him, stepping in each footprint he left in the grass, trailing him like a little child.

>Boom!<

Amy jolted upright in her bed, her eyes quickly darting around the room. There was another loud crash and she jumped off the bed and scampered out of her room. She heard another, louder crash, and found it to be coming from Mitsukai's room. Amy quickly opened the door and caught a glimpse of Mitsukai running before disappearing beyond the wall to her right. She edged forward and peered around the wall. She quickly recoiled at the sight before her. There was another loud crash, causing Amy to take a step back, but found herself against the door. She made a move to open the door, but thought twice about it. She flinched again as another crash rang through the room.

Edging forward carefully, Amy braced herself for what she was about to see. When she was fully in the room, she heard another crash to her right and turned to look. Mitsukai crouched close to the ground a few feet from the wall, glaring unseeingly at the wall in front of him, blood streaming down his face from unseen wounds hidden by his hair. She watched as he jumped to his feet again, charging the wall, then leapt straight at it. His head collided suddenly with the wall, making another booming sound. When he began to fall, Mitsukai brought his feet against the wall and projected himself backward, landing in the same crouching position, ready to jump again.

Amy backed against the wall behind her, watching on in horror and disgust as Mitsukai continued to attack the wall, an enraged look in his eyes, blood pouring down his face in a steady flow. It was just as he was landing again did Amy realize the large image painted on the wall he was ramming himself into. In black paint was the picture of a massive raven, its wings spread outward as it flew toward the heavens, its red eyes glowing with an infuriation beyond explanation. The sound of Mitsukai's lean form slamming against the wall broke her out of her reverie.

She finally got up the courage to intervene, stepping in front of him after he landed once more. His eyes, burning lividly, shot up to meet her gaze.

"Stop it," she yelled at him. "You don't know what you're doing! Please, let me help you! You're badly injured!"

Mitsukai stood suddenly, his feathers rustling a moment before settling beside him. His eyes burned angrily, shining a deep crimson color in the early morning moonlight. His hair was colored the same crimson with his own spilt blood, his wing splattered and smeared as well.

"You, human," he spat out in an animosity Amy had never heard him ever use, "know not of what you speak. Step out of my way!"

Amy shivered a moment at the hatred and spite in his voice before shaking her head. "I'm sorry, Mitsukai. I just can't do that."

A new, stronger form of loathing formed in his eyes at the mention of his name. "You defy my order and dare to address me by name? You are brave, but foolish in that bravery. I shall give you one last chance. I command you, you filthy human, to get out of my way!"

A flash of black streaked across his eyes, barely there for a split-second, but Amy caught it. "Yes, I may be foolish, but I know what I'm talking about. Look at yourself, Mitsukai! You're covered in blood! It's like you've gone rabid like a dog or something!"

"I have warned you of your foolishness, human," Mitsukai yelled at her, crouching back to the ground. "You have thrown away my mercy and your life!"

Mitsukai lunged at her, his claws extended, ready to spill her blood, but she stepped out of the way just as the tips of his talons touched her shoulder. He smashed into the wall once more then fell to the ground in a crumpled, gory heap. She placed her hand over the small cut on her right shoulder and sat on the ground beside Mitsukai, watching his chest heave up and down, his head turned to the side painfully. She hesitantly placed her right hand on his forehead, whispering to herself, "Traverse the Mind".

A sudden darkness came over her and her body crumpled over his as her mind traveled to enter Mitsukai's. As soon as she got there, Feather ran toward her and hid behind her legs.

"What is it, Feather?"

"Our demon blood," Rat yelled, running toward them both. "We've been keeping it at bay for centuries, but it's now been released and is ravaging our mind!"

When he reached them, he grabbed them both and continued running, glancing back as a giant, black cloud rose in the distance, covering the sky.

"What will it do if you can't get it under control again," Amy asked, dreading the answer.

"It will destroy us, taking over his mind and then go after you," Rat answered regretfully, speeding up as the black cloud grew ever larger.
