Fan Fiction ❯ Fallen ❯ Chapter II ( Chapter 2 )
Fallen
II
I won't bore you by going into great detail to tell you how you get hooked up to Gaia, but I will tell you the basis. You are put in and water filled chamber, and, when it and numbs your pain, the robotics hook needles into three specific areas, your neck, chest and head. Every once in awhile a couple of other needles with hook-up to various other places, but what happened today was something that I swear no one else had ever seen. There must have been fifty needles hooked up to me. It was…scary. `Cause that's when my shock started to wear off and reality kicked in. I have a problem with shock blocking my brain understanding my situations.
That's when I realized I wouldn't be coming back for awhile. We didn't have time to protest and I'm not sure if anyone wanted to. Sky looked scared, and when that happens everyone should panic. The King of under-control was quite literally freaking out right in front of me. He would mutter to himself and check to see if he was armed enough.
Gene and Rebecca were dead silent as they locked themselves into the computer. Perhaps they too realized they wouldn't be coming back, or maybe the realized how scared Sky was. Not another word was said.
The chambers were filled with water slowly, and the needles started to come out. I closed my eyes as tight as I could. Everything important was coming back to me. The first time I was in Gaia, when I met Gene and Rebecca, Sky's picture, watching Melina die and then I felt it. All fifty needles into me, all at once, in places that I could and places I couldn't explain. Right before I entered Gaia I swear I heard our apartment door being kicked open, and some man yelling, "Shit!" quite loudly. I tried to open my eyes, but the world was spinning, blurred and had become slurred. Then the world collapsed. Total black…

I was awakened by the breeze softly blowing my hair. My head hurt like hell and it took awhile for the world around me to stop spinning. Finally, my dizziness passed and I was able to soak in the situation. I was alone, or at least I thought I was. Gene, Rebecca and Sky were no where to be seen, but, before I could ponder, I heard many voices. I realized I was lying in the middle of some type of ally, and when I lifted my head I saw an old man staring at me in shock. I debated whether asking him for help and finally decided not to. Who knew what parasite I had just fallen into?
I stood up, and my eyes were attacked by the spots of Dizzy. I stumbled while trying to walk. `Way to go Eden. You just appeared in front of some old twit and now he's going to think you're drunk. Smooth…' I thought to myself.
"Help me! Help!" I heard woman's voice call from around the corner. Time to play the hero!
"Hang on, I coming!" I shouted back. I ran around the corner and saw a young woman being pulled back and forth by two very large men.
"Come on lady! We know you've got more money than that! Hand it over and we'll go easy on you," the dark haired man on her right said. Apparently this was a virus infested part of Gaia.
"Look, I told you already. I went to the stare today to buy food for my family. I DON'T HAVE ANY MORE MONEY!" she said saying every word slowly and clearly. "Look, guy in the weird get-up over there! If you're going to help me, now would be a great time to just jump in!" She looked right at me. Oops…guess I should have helped sooner.
"Let her go! She told you already! She doesn't have any money!" I yelled, but it was in vain. They still hadn't noticed me. I had to go into plan B. I looked around on the ground until I found what I was looking for. I bent down, grabbed the stick and waved it around while whistling. "Hey! Come here boys! You want the stick, huh? You want the stick?" They looked over at me and then at the stick with the eyes of a rabid dog. Their eyes never wavered from the precious treasure.
"Go get it!" I yelled and threw it as far as I could. They chased after it as if it would get away. I got a good look at the woman and the comical look on her face. Her jaw hung slightly open and I swear I saw her eyes popping out of her head. She long white hair that flowed down to her elbows. She had pointed ears but they stuck out horizontally, so she didn't look like an ethereal elf. She stared at me as if to say oh-my-God-where-the-hell-have-you-been.
"Hi! I'm Eden!" I said with an outstretched arm. She still just stared. Her eyes were a forest green and she looked like a black mage. Her outfit was black and green, and was cloak-ish. However it had pants that were baggy and the top of top ensemble came down just below her waist. It stuck to her hips and had four even slices decorating it.
She stretched out her hand, and said, "Name Ellie my hi is." I laughed as she hit herself in the head. "I mean, hi my name is Ellie," she corrected. I shook her hand. It was cold and she was unusually pale. Even though I didn't know her, I knew what a healthy person looked like. She was not the prime example of healthy. A girl like her should've had a beautiful glow to her. She only had a dim light around her.
But as I looked around, the whole place looked dim. She looked at me with saddened eyes. "Is it really so bad that everyone can tell our time is coming to a close?" Ellie asked my in a tearful voice.
"My lady, I know not of what you speak," I lied. As soon as I said it she looked down with a small smile. I knew she saw through it.
"Do not lie. We have such little hope left that we are trying to make life as easy and enjoyable as possible," She said with tears falling freely from her eyes now. "Are you the savior we have come to know?" I didn't to her. I wished to tell her I was, but I hardly knew why I was here.
"I could not tell you."
"That's quite alright," she said with a grin. "It was a large virus that attacked us, and I'm not sure if anyone could help us anyway." I looked down in grief.
"Forgive me. This is not the way I remember this place."
"Much has changed. This world is now worse than your own." I gazed at her is surprise. How did she know where I was from? "You where your emotions on your sleeve and you are rancid with your fear, come I will show you the way." I kept my ground for awhile. I wasn't sure I could trust this beauty in disguise. The ends of her white hair blew in the soft wind. I studied my options and Ellie just stood there. I don't know if she saw something in me or if she really wanted me to come with her. I was just confused.
She stared at me in silence. I almost unwillingly reached my hand out to hers as she pulled me along. This was the first time I got a good look into her eyes.
Funny… I didn't think her eyes were red.

(Different P.O.V)
Gene and Rebecca awoke with the sound of a shriek. It was a loud wailing and both youths covered their ears as fast as their hands would travel. Rebecca chanced a look into the grey sky to see what creature made this horrible noise. She soon learned that was a bad idea. It was a man-like creature, with brown leather type skin and it was flying right over head. It looked down right at her. Its eyes were a venomous yellow and they resided right on its shoulders. The sound emitted from its voice sounded like a scream from a young woman's mouth.
"That is a terrible monster called Shebak. Its screams drive the race of man into a state similar to your `berserker'," Sky said as the monster drifted farther away. Rebecca hadn't noticed him and it seems he hadn't made much effort to save himself. His body was swollen with gashes.
"Who has done this to you?" Rebecca asked in a worrisome voice.
"Do not worry for me. Besides, it's gone now."
"Are you trying to tell me that thing just did that to you…by screaming?" Sky glared at her. His stare was unusually…gentle.
"This is not the Gaia you know," Sky's voice sounded like honey covered in Tabasco sauce. "This is no longer a place to escape to. This place will break you," he said in a tone even more serious for him. Sky turned his head a playfully smiled at her. "Now, you're stuck here, and I'm not sure how to get out." Rebecca had to chuckle. Not because he was trying to be nice about their horrid situation, but because she had never seen this side of him before.
Gene had been listening the entire time. He crept up behind the two, and spread his arms out and hugged the two tightly together.
"Oh my Goddess! Look at you two! Becca, you just bring out the best in this marble statue over here. Oh, this is going to be amazing. Watch, by the end of this journey you two will like two peas in a pod. It's it ironic how horrible predicaments can bring two unsuspecting lovers together!" Gene said in woman's voice, while become slightly teary eyed.
Rebecca and Sky almost had sweatdrops sliding down their heads. Truth be told, they really were doing well in staying calm. Considering their circumstances, they were taking their isolation quite well.

I figured out Ellie was about as mysterious as Sky, but a lot more fun. She was a total nut-job at that, but in this day and age who isn't? We ran quickly through the silent streets as she mumbled to herself. I was tired, angry and extremely confused. I wanted to stop her and make her tell me what the hell was going on. I couldn't bring myself to do it, though. She looked like she was battling a lot of stress.
And then, there was also something about her. I took this time to soak in everything about her, but I had already figured out what it was about her. I wanted so badly to prove myself wrong. Of course I couldn't, she wasn't going to change. She reminded me of her. From the time I looked into her Forest green eyes until the time I looked into her…red eyes. Wait a minute! I had forgotten all about that! That was enough to make me want to stop her.
"Hey, stop!" I shouted only to realize it was a big mistake. She turned to me and looked right into my eyes. Ellie's eyes were now green again…
"What is it? Is something wrong?" She asked me. Her voice was filled with panic. I gazed at her eyes, still trying to prove myself wrong. Then I saw her. Melina, she was there! Looking at me through this woman's eyes!
"Hello? Gaia to Eden, are you home?" She said with giggle. Damn-it! I'm losing it! I never knew this place would do this to me. I never wanted to feel this pain of losing Melina! Never, not ever again!
"I'm sorry. You just remind me of someone."
"Oh, so that's it?" I wanted to say yes and just get on with it, but I decided to ask her some questions.
"Where are you taking me?"
"To the Moon Priestess, she expected you'd be coming. I don't know how, but she said you would and she's seldom ever wrong."
"What's wrong with Gaia? Is DATA coming alive? Does she know why I've been summoned?"
"Whoa! Not all at once ok? Kieran answer them all in due time."
"Answer me now!" I stopped surprised at myself. I was angrier than I thought. Ellie had awakened something in me, and I hated it. It hurt like hell. "I'm sorry Ellie I-"
"Don't be," She cut me off. "I understand that you're confused and frustrated, but you have to trust me." She grabbed my hand. "I'll tell you this. The Priestesses have felt a great evil growing in Gaia. They have said that it has been caused by the greed of humans. That there are men searching for this evil and making it grow larger." She said as she looked down. She was a strong woman, and held back her tears. But I could hear the sadness in her voice.
"I'm scared. We all are..." I cupped her face in my hands.
"Take me to Kieran, and let me find out what I wish to know. I promise you Ellie, I'll do whatever I can to help you and Gaia." That was the second promise I had made in my life that I was going to keep. With that she smiled, took my hand once more and lead my down the cobble stone path.
