Falling For You
Chapter 2:
Disorder and Disarray

“I love you.”

Breanna snorted as she handed a styrofoam cup full of French vanilla cappuccino to her best friend, Cassandra Prescott, who snatched it eagerly from her with a contented sigh.

“Uh-huh. Sure I am… You only like me because I bring you coffee,” she teased as Cassandra gave her an innocent look.

“That's just not true, Bre-Bre,” she replied adamantly, using her childhood nickname for her as she took a sip of her steaming beverage. “You bringing me coffee every morning is just an added benefit to our friendship. The real reason I love you is because you buy me pretty, expensive things.”

“Thanks Cassie, you really know how to brighten my morning,” Breanna responded sarcastically with a light punch to the blonde's shoulder as she joined her friend on the bench she was currently sitting on, waiting for school to start.

Cassandra shrugged nonchalantly. “I try.”

Shaking her head, Breanna chuckled and pulled out a compact to check her makeup. It really wasn't out of vanity that she did this sort of thing, but more out of habit. She'd been taught by her mother that a lady was always to look her best, no matter what. Mrs. Denton regarded smudged mascara as a catastrophe worse than nuclear holocaust…

“So, have you seen the new guy yet?” Cassandra queried as she leaned back on the bench and crossed her slim, tanned legs.

Out of all her friends, Breanna considered Cassie to be the prettiest. Her hair was a strawberry blond color, chin length in the front and a little longer in the back; breezy, youthful, and curling here and there. The cut highlighted her small, delicate features and brought out the warmth of her large, friendly brown eyes. A little on the short side, but with a fantastic body from the hours she spent swimming and running track, Cassandra was the picture of poise and sophistication, and she'd taught Breanna everything she knew.

“Nope, why? Is he hot?”

Cassandra giggled. “Yes, in a very juvenile delinquent kind of way, if you know what I mean,” she replied as she waved and smiled at a passerby hurrying by.

“What do you mean, juvenile delinquent? Did he get in a fight or something?”

“No, but you can just tell from one look at him that he's trouble with a capital T,” Cassandra insisted as she sipped cautiously at her hot coffee.

“Hmmm… Well, I guess we'll just have to stay away from him then, huh?” Breanna concluded reasonably as she pushed herself gracefully from the bench and held out a hand to help her companion up.

Taking the offered hand, Cassandra nodded and smiled. “Yup, and besides, who cares about other guys, right? We've got two of the best men in Southern California at our beck and call.”

Breanna laughed as she looped an arm around her petite friend's small waist. “You really are awful, you know that right?”

Her only answer was a snicker as the two girls made their way through the throng of students pouring into the school. Among the crowd, a lone figure watched them stroll unhurriedly along with a devious smirk and a determined glint flaming in the depths of his amber colored orbs.

Pushing a hand through his shaggy auburn locks, the stranger chuckled and watched as the girl with the long, black hair threw her head back and laughed at something the small blond said.

`She's the one. She will be my first conquest in this God forsaken place,' he decided as he took in her prim, tidy appearance. `What fun it will be to strip her of that little catholic school girl uniform; reveal all the curves and skin she's hiding beneath it. I'll bet she's a real hell cat in bed…'

Frowning a little as a tall, blond boy scooped up the object of his fascination in his muscular arms, the stranger glared and scowled at the familiar way they interacted with each other. `A boyfriend… That could be a problem,' he thought to himself as his previous confident smirk returned to light upon his lips.

`But I'm always up for a challenge.'

`Here kitty, kitty, kitty…'

oOoOoOoOoOo

“Could Breanna Denton please report to the main office,” the intercom crackled loudly as said girl smiled at her home room teacher and stood up.

“Be right back, Mrs. Markov. A student council president's work is never done,” she joked with a smile to let her know she was only kidding.

“Of course, Breanna. Take all the time you need,” the middle aged, Russian woman replied affectionately.

“Thanks, I'll be right back.” Flipping her silky hair over her shoulder, she straightened her clothing and headed in the direction of the main office as the male occupants of the classroom stared after her retreating form with small sighs of longing.

`I wonder what this is all about…' she wondered silently as she ambled slowly down the quiet corridor. Reaching her destination, Breanna pulled the door to the administrative center open, and stepped into the organized chaos that was the main office.

Breanna smiled warmly in greeting at the secretary in charge of student affairs and propped herself up against the counter.

“Hey Mrs. Holden, what did you need?”

“Oh, Breanna, hello. Did you forget about the new student Mr. Wright told you about yesterday? The one we need you to show around?”

Breanna slapped her forehead and gave the brunette woman a sheepish smile. “Wouldn't ya know, I did completely forget about that. I'm sorry, Mrs. Holden.”

“That's quite alright, dear. I know you have a lot of responsibilities, and a very busy social life. You're entitled to one minor slip up once in a while,” she reassured her kindly, “Just take a seat, and I'll be right back with him.”

Breanna nodded appreciatively and sat down to wait. `A student orientation, that's what I forgot about this morning. I knew there was something else… Oh no. Wait a minute. Him? I hope she doesn't mean-`

“Breanna Denton, meet Devon Pierce. He just moved here from Minnesota.” Standing up, Breanna inwardly groaned at the sight in front of her. `Well, so much for avoiding Trouble…'

Cassandra had been right, the new guy was hot, but Breanna could tell from the cocky way he held himself, and the way his full lips smirked arrogantly at her, that this new addition to her school was going to be nothing but a dangerous nuisance.

`Mmmm, but he is sexy…' she thought as she observed her new charge. Tall and lean, Devon Pierce had a body that most teenage boys could only dream about. Even covered by the conservative school uniform, Breanna could see how muscular his arms were beneath the confines of his dark cobalt jacket. Broad shoulders and a well developed chest indicated that he probably worked out, and most likely the rest of his body was just as powerfully built as she suspected it was.

Moving her appraising gaze upwards, Breanna admiringly took in the disheveled light brown hair kissed with touches of red and blond that brushed the chiseled features of his devastatingly handsome face. Strong chin, well defined cheekbones, and… `What unusual eyes,' she thought dazedly as Devon pierced her with an intense, heated stare.

`I feel like he could almost burn me if he looked too long,' she mused as her own violet eyes locked with his amber ones.

`Good God, her eyes are so blue, they're almost purple. Who the hell has purple eyes?' Devon wondered silently as he continued to stare at the fascinating creature who had only moments ago been checking him out.

`At least I know she's interested,' he smirked as the beautiful girl shook her head like she was trying to shake herself out of a daze, and smiled brightly at him.

“It's really nice to meet you, Devon. I'm sure you're going to love life here at St. Paul's, and please let me know if I can do anything to help you get settled in,” she chirped enthusiastically, though Devon could tell she was just trying to hide her unease at having to show him around. Deciding to play along, Devon returned her smile with a deceptively polite grin.

“Why thank you, Miss Denton, I really appreciate that,” he replied graciously as he held out a hand in greeting. Clasping her small, delicate hand in his own much larger one, Devon almost jumped as tingles raced up and down his arm.

`Whoa, what was that,' Breanna marveled numbly as she tugged her hand away and took a step back. `His touch was like… I don't know. I feel like I'm on fire…'

“Well kids, you better be on your way. The bell for class should be ringing soon and you don't want to be late,” Mrs. Holden informed them, snapping the two surprised teens from their stunned states and back into reality.

“What? Oh yes, you're right. Thank you, Mrs. Holden, we'll be going now,” Breanna mumbled distractedly as she carefully avoided Devon's eyes and made her way out of the busy office. Stepping into the hushed hallway, she took a deep breath as she tried to calm the butterflies swarming madly around in her stomach.

`What is wrong with me? I haven't even known this guy for five minutes and already he's managed to completely unnerve me. Everything about Devon Pierce just screams CAUTION. I need to get away from him as quickly as possible-'

“Well, kitty, looks like it's just you and me,” a husky, masculine voice purred into the shell of her ear as strong arms encircled her waist to bring her back against a solid wall of heat and muscle.

`This could be bad…'

Alright, let me clarify this now for people who are concerned… There will be NO DEATH in this story. I PROMISE!!! I'm sorry to all those I have traumatized in the past, so please rest assured, ok? Anyway, thanks to all of my wonderful, wonderful reviewers and readers. I love you guys and hope that you liked the chapter. Devon is sure to cause some trouble, huh? Oh, on another note… The rating on this story (which I accidentally had on K+ for a little while yesterday… Oops) should be taken seriously. Falling For You is going to have a lot more adult themes to it than Everything You Want, so be prepared. I hope that doesn't offend or turn off anybody, but… Ya know… Don't worry, nothing too explicit, but definitely not for the eyes of children. :o) lol Anyway, sorry for the huge ass author's note, I'm done babbling now. Tchao for now…
