Fan Fiction ❯ Fangs of the Vampyre ❯ Gale ( Prologue )

The storm...it was fierce, to say in the least. Rain, mist, hail and snow all swirled together...the storm of the millennium. Thunder rumbled in the distance, and lightning flashed at random intervals. You couldn't see your hands in front of your face, let alone the car in front of you. Traffic was at a stand-still, because of both the storm and the multiple traffic accidents that had happened because of it. It had whipped up so suddenly, like bringing a blindfold over the entire city's eyes, save for one. Mine.

I glanced around, the different bits of precipitation all avoiding my gaze. It also avoided my skin. I was completely dry, for nothing could harm its creator without denying its own existence. And I was its creator...sort of. Right now...no. It...the weather, I mean...felt my emotions and went along with them accordingly. And right now, I was horribly miserable. Contemplating jumping off the edge of the skyscraper balcony I was standing on, to see what would happen. I knew something would save me...Milady would be sure to have someone watching me.

But would they see through my gale?

...could I possibly end what was thought to be immortality?

No. I couldn't. It would send the weather into frenzy. Plunge the earth into chaos...destroy the world. I have no kin to take on my task; I mustn't let that become so either. I couldn't set this onto the unsuspecting shoulders of an innocent child unfortunate enough to have my blood deathly flowing through their veins. I couldn't have a child simply to have them born into death and duty...

Wind dared blow blood red locks about my face, obscuring my vision for a moment as a plane seemed to go lower and lower in the sky. I faintly noticed both engines on one of the wings was flaming, creating a splash of colour in the world that was otherwise completely made of grays.

Then, as if in slow motion, it came closer and closer to the buildings. Silhouetted by lightning, lighted by flames...horrifying beauty.

I jolted into realization, though too late, when a loud chorus of horrified screams pierced through the gale's wrath and the plane collided with several buildings on the other side of the city. A sick feeling made itself known in the pit of my stomach when more flames licked at the sky, fiercely fighting for life under the pressure of the rain. Rolls of thunder echoed after the sounds of the crash.

Tears came to my eyes when the horrible realization came—I'd lost all control of my emotions for far too long...and this was the result.

Taking a deep breath, I focused on remembering the training my father had given me before I'd taken his role so many centuries ago. The rain eased, and soon nothing but a light fog remained. I took another breath and raised my hand, focusing on taking control of what I'd lost hours before. Soon rain...pure, cleansing rain, not a full-blown storm...began to pour on the other side, putting out the flames, before releasing my hold on the rain and falling to my knees, not noticing the wetness that immediately began to absorb into my jeans.

“Oh my god...I can't believe I lost it...”

How could I have let this happen...how...?
