Fantasy Syndrome
Chapter 1: An Egyptian Terror
------------------------------
15 years old and struck by lightning. What else could go wrong? They took her to the hospital, poor little Ciara Haroshiku. They said she had been diagnosed with Fantasy Syndrome, meaning everything she sees is something else than we saw. But you just kinda learned to live with it. Sometimes it was like playing with a six year old through a mystical pony world, but other times were more fun to just play along with.

My name is Joey Kakomaru, I'm 15 too, and Ciara's best friend, I have been since kindergarten. We played so many things after Ciara was diagnosed with the syndrome, but it got more and more fun as we went along and the realities got older. One day, Ciara thought we were in Ancient Egypt.

Ciara: Come on Joey! Just a little further and we'll be down this tunnel!

We were crawling on our stomachs through bushes like little kids, but it was fun.

Joey: Yeah! I can almost see the exit!

Ciara: Just a little fu-

Ciara screamed.

Joey: What's wrong?

Ciara: It's a cobra!

An earthworm.

Joey: Hold on! I'll get it!

I pretended to slash it with a stick, and Ciara sighed out of relief. It was strange how she thought she was really in danger, and I was facing down an earthworm, but I had never been happier.

Ciara: Wow! That cave was gruesome! I never want to go back!

Joey: Neither do I. Hey, what's that up ahead?

Ciara: It's one of the King Cobra gang!

It was Tommy Sanders. Ciara always hated him, so every time she saw him, he was another evil doer. But Tommy was cool with Ciara now, everybody was, if she pointed in their direction, they'd just play along with whatever she said, as if it were real….maybe everybody had Fantasy Syndrome! Or maybe I had Reality Syndrome.

Joey: Don't worry, I'll distract him!

I ran one way, and Ciara went the other. Tommy, hearing what I said, ran after me playfully. We must have run half a block when Tommy gave up, and walked off, saying to tell Ciara I lost him. Oh No! Ciara! I forgot about her! I ran back to the place we split up, and looked everywhere fanning out from that, I screamed for her, and she screamed back. But it wasn't a `here I am' scream, it was an `I'm over here, help me!' Scream.

Ever since Ciara got the Syndrome, everybody wanted her for their own gains. Since she couldn't tell Reality from Fantasy, everybody played along with her, but if someone bad would get a hold of her, she could take down an entire building! So I ran for the scream, running as fast as I could, then I saw them!

Ciara: Joey! Help! It's the King Cobras!

Of course you know, it wasn't. It was just a regular old thief.

Joey: Hold on Ciara!

I ran towards the kidnapper, punching with all my might, but he just punched back and blocked over and over! I tried everything to get Ciara back, but I wasn't strong enough. All I had was brains, and not the kind of brains that mean you have an imagination, smart brains. I couldn't do a thing with those brains though, because all I could think about was Ciara's safety! I ran after the man as he ran through the alleys, as fast as I possibly could. If there was anything I could do to save Ciara, it had to be quick! The man cut a corner, and I followed, but when I got there all I could see was a dead end, and no crook, and absolutely no Ciara.

But then I heard her scream at the top of her lungs!

Ciara: JOEY, HE'S TAKING ME TO THE PYRAMIDS!

Then I remembered, Ciara called the abandoned factories pyramids. Because when she was little she saw crooks go in there, and tipped off the cops. So I started running to the factories, thinking only about what would, could, I do once I got there?
