Fear the Darkness
It was bedtime for Elise, but she was not sleepy just yet. She crawled into the covers of her bed and waited for her brother, Jason, to come and read her a bedtime story. When he finally came, Elise cried out, “Read me a horror story big brother!”
Jason laughed, “Are you sure you won't have nightmares?”
Elise nodded, “Yes! I am sure that I won't!”
“Well alright then. I shall tell you a story about the demise of one of our ancestor's adversaries,” Jason replied.
“I love that story!” Elise cheered.
“All right then,” Jason began, “I'll start now…”
************************* And thus… the story began *********************************************************
It was the type of day where the birds were singing, children were playing, and friends were laughing together. It was a beautiful day.
However, a pale figure was watching in disgust at such a joyous scene. His dark eyes narrowed as he turned away from the window and stared coldly at a trembling young girl.
His voice was shockingly silky as he scowled, “Why are you here? I did not send for you!”
The young girl's lip quivered as she answered in a shaky voice, “There is someone here to see you, Master Ryo.”
“I am not expecting anyone! Tell that person to leave immediately!” Ryo replied in a dignified manner.
At that moment, a feminine voice called, “Must you always send everyone away before you even know who it is? That is extremely rude of you!”
A young woman in her early twenties stepped into the room. She was tall and lean. Her long chocolate-colored hair swayed from side to side. Her piercing sky blue eyes scanned the room.
It was dark and gloomy. The only light that touched the interior of the room were the few strands of sunlight that had managed to scrape their way through the filthy window. The only furniture in the room was a desk and two comfy, yet dusty, armchairs.
She then studied the young man that she had come to see. He had short black hair and eerie yellow eyes that had a certain hunger within them. He was of medium built and was very muscular. He wore the royal dark robes of an emperor's son.
The woman finally spoke to the young girl before her. She regarded the girl kindly, “You may take your leave now, Mayu. I shall call upon you when your assistance is required.”
Mayu bowed gratefully, “Thank you, Lady Sora.”
When Mayu had left, Ryo gazed at Sora wistfully. He waved a hand to one of the empty armchairs, “Please sit down, Princess.”
Sora walked slowly to the armchair and sat down. She spoke calmly, “Do not try to flatter me, Ryo. You know my business for being here, and I do not have time to play your little game.”
“Oh?” Ryo inquired, “Is that so? Well my dear, I do not know of which you speak. What do you mean by your business and my game?”
Sora's eyes narrowed into a deadly glare, “Ryo, stop being foolish and act like the true demon that you are! You know perfectly well why I am here! You know that my world is under attack by your brother's armed forces!”
Ryo started to laugh maniacally. His eyes flashed with twisted humor as he cried, “What do you mean my brother? I do not have one! He is dead! I murdered and mutilated him myself!”
Sora's eyes flashed crimson, “If you killed your brother, who is attacking my world?”
Ryo grinned viciously, “How am I supposed to know?”
Sora angrily shot up from her chair and stormed to the door. She slammed the door open so hard that it nearly came off its hinges! She glared at Ryo, then asked in an eerily icy tone, “Tell me Ryo, are you afraid of the darkness?”
Ryo frowned at her, “Why do you ask?”
Sora smirked and shook her head, “I was just wondering, Ryo. I hope you have pleasant dreams tonight.” She walked out and saw Mayu staring at her anxiously.
“What happened in there, Lady Sora? Are you alright?” Mayu questioned.
Sora patted Mayu on the head, “Do not worry little one. Everything will be alright. However, I must ask you to come with me to my world.”
“Why is that, Lady Sora?” Mayu questioned once again.
Sora closed her eyes and sighed wearily, “I have placed a terrible curse on Ryo and everything that is in his possession. I am worried that something might happen to you if you stay here. That is why you are coming with me.”
Mayu smiled in gratitude, “Thank you for looking after me.”
Sora nodded, and the two females left the demonic world that was in Ryo's possession.
Ryo growled viciously while he watched them leave. In his fury, he began to demolish everything in sight. The desk and armchairs were smashed into splinters and dust flew up in the room. He busted the window into delicate shards with his bare hands and threw them at invisible foes. He took the door and heaved at it until it broke off. He then threw it at the empty space where the busted window had once resided.
All through the destruction, he never noticed that the shadows in the room grew larger and larger until no light could be seen. The shadows then turned into various grotesque forms. They swirled all around him like a hawk that hunted its prey. Then just like that, they disappeared and took the darkness with them.
Ryo began to cough and looked at his hands. They had been slashed open when he threw the glass shards at his invisible foes. His pupils constricted and his dull teeth sharpened into razor-sharp fangs. He hungrily licked up the blood. His demonic nature had come out, and it wanted blood. It did not matter where the blood had come from. All that mattered was that it was there. This bloodlust frenzy went on for an hour until he had finally calmed down enough to think clearly.
He frowned and thought, I need to clean this up. Oh well, I guess I can clean this up later.
He left the room and walked to the kitchen to fix up something to eat. As he was eating, silent shadows glided through and across the walls. They watched him hungrily while waiting for a chance to strike.
This went on the whole night. Everywhere Ryo went, the shadows followed stealthily. They took their true forms when Ryo was finally asleep in bed. There were some that had no mouths or eyes. Others had no limbs or had parts of animals morphed with them. They all had one thing in common though, and it was that they all had a scar on their right cheek. They stood silently on all sides of the bed waiting for their leader to come.
When their leader finally appeared, it came as a shock. Out of the whole group, the leader was not grotesque. In fact, their leader was a female with long blue hair and violet eyes. She was of medium height and had extremely pale skin. Unlike her comrades, she had no scars or parts of animals morphed with her. She also had all her limbs. The only thing that made her appear inhuman was her violet eyes. They had no pupils.
She stared in disgust at the sleeping Ryo and wailed an unearthly screech. Ryo's eyes shot up open and he gawked in fear at the shadows surrounding him. However, the blue-haired shadow put the most fear in his heart for it was his old lover, Kaylene. She sneered at Ryo and faded slowly from sight. The others soon faded away as well but not before they each touched his face.
Ryo sweated dreadfully. He had seen the souls and bodies of the ones he had murdered. He tried to calm himself and finally slept. His dreams were full of nightmarish creatures, the stench of death, and worst of all, the dreaded darkness. He usually liked the darkness and found it comforting, but this darkness was hungry and he was the main course. He tried to wake himself up, but that just made everything worse. He was being eaten alive by maggots and other flesh-eating monsters, and the worst part was that he could feel the excruciating pain as he was being eaten alive.
When he finally woke up, he saw that he had bite marks all over his body. His eyes widened in horror when he smelled the rotting stench of death. He jumped out of bed and raced to the kitchen. What he saw nearly made him vomit.
His nightmare was there in his kitchen. The creatures, the maggots, and the stench were all there. He saw the creatures raiding the cabinets searching for an unknown item. The maggots were eating everything the creatures had thrown out and spilled on the floors.
What happened next filled him with terror. The nightmare had seen him and wanted to get him! The creatures were rushing at him, and with their claws they seized at him furiously.
In his desperation, he turned and ran for the door. He never made it though. One of the horrid monsters had snatched his right ankle. It dragged him towards the gaping mouths of its brethren.
“NO!” he screamed, “NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!” His nails scraped at the floor as he was dragged into the gaping mouths of the monsters.
******************Elise and Jason************************
“So… how did you like the story, Elise? Elise?” Jason saw that his younger sister had fallen asleep. He smiled and kissed her forehead, “May you have… wonderful nightmares my little demonic sister.” He turned off the lights and left.
