Flight over Fire

It was a dark cold an feverish night, walking threw the town, the damp streets and the desolate sounds of fog ringing in my ears, one my find it so strange. A normal child like my self should have frozen to death from the cold out here; it was only two more blocks. I kept telling myself, two more blocks until I got "home" home to a place that I was really never thankful for.

A dirty town for a rotten family, even the angels would laugh at me now. Trying to keep warm by pulling my arms in. my arms that had hardly any muscle or enough fat on them to do them any good. Skinnier than the next kid I learned to deal with it, it's my own fault anyway I suppose with the way the wind was blowing, I thought I would fall over and be blown away.

All I wanted was to go home and find that everyone had vanished, anyone in the right frame of mind new I would never have that kind of luck. Finally, the two blocks came to its end, I walked up to the apartments, and up it's rusted steps. They were old, far to old for anyone new to the town to want to live in them. Winding up 3 flights the last door on the right. 2 bedrooms, one bath, what do I expect when I get home and throw my stuff

On the couch, but a "FURAITO!" And onto the couch I went, another bruise to add to my face from the hand that slapped it just a smidge to roughly.

"What's wrong with you?" my father figure was screaming in my face, " Can't you do ANYTHING right? Your never home on time!" Smack, smack, the sound echoed threw out the house. Nobody else was home; the old man breathed down my neck and I new what was coming. "Get off of me." he sat down on me instead, stupid man. I thought he was going to crush my pelvic bone with the 200 lbs of his.

"You know your only good for one thing." His words breathing down my neck, I'll never forget them and he's scared me for life. The long or short life, which ever it happens to be, I batted at him, and yelled. And well, I couldn't exactly kick I would rather be out in the cold than have my father push himself into me, if I had a waited 20 more minutes for my mother to come home. Then everything would have been ok,

That night was burned into me like everything else that man has ever done to me.

I lay there for I don't know how long; he took his good sweet time with everything he wanted to do to me. And threw me in my room like I had put myself their. Disgusting,

Horribly wrong, nobody would ever no. Nobody would ever save me from him, so I had to save myself.

There had to be something better, I thought to myself in remembrance of the hour before.

My skin got clammy and cold my face was rather dead as it lay on it side on the pillow,

~There has to be something better than this~ I heard a tapping on my window next,

Like the kind of tapping you would hear during a storm from the tree branch I wrapped the blanket around my self, seeing as how I was too sleepy to get dressed. And opened the window and what I saw shocked me.

Floating there in front of me was a women, green hair that seemed to levitate by it self

And the palest skin I had ever seen, blue green glitter surrounded the outskirts of her face and eyes, eyebrows dark and blue, lips purple, as I had ever seen any women's make up.

"Who are you?" yelling, stepping back, tripping over the blanket wrapped around me. "The Goddess of the Pine."

Now at this I scowled in disbelief, a million gods and goddess's of all kinds. And I get stuck with the Goddess of the Pine, "What do you want from me?" she did not enter my home; she did not enter my life just yet. "You are the one who has called." I looked at her strangely, wind blew threw the window and sent chills up my exposed legs. "I did no such thing."

The Goddess gave me a rather blank stare; as her eyes seemed to grow angry, "Do not deny your calls." She said to me it seemed like she wanted to come in, but something would let her. A barrier shield, I hoped it would stay there for all eternity, which I may look upon her knowing that she could not get in.

An eerie silence swept the house "Go away!" I yelled at her, "I don't want you here! You are not welcome!" she let out a yell and vanished before my eyes. And then I realized she could not come in unless I invited her, and I had just rejected her invitation, would she be back? Or would there simply be others who said I called. And then the thought came back to my mind, ~ There has to be something better than this~ the thought of mine that was in somebody else's voice.

I stood with the blanket held tight against me. And the smell of death went into my nose,

Dressed, I searched the house for it's source, I found nothing there, nothing would come out of its dark hiding place. My father figure had disappeared and my mother hadn't come home yet. "It's going to be a long night." I muttered, my bare feet walked across

The cold hard wood floors, what Goddess or God would I so be lucky to meet next?

Could this smell be the answer to my question? I reached the window in a tensing of my shoulder's forming the uncomfortable knots in my back. Looking to the street, I saw nothing out of the ordinary for the San Francisco nightfall all the freaks were out.

Probably wondering what happened to me, unfortunately, one of those things that you can only see out of the corner of your eye caught mine.

Who ever proved that curiosity killed the cat? It was just a famous saying after all. And after meeting the Goddess of the pine, I knew there was something else down on that street, something waiting for me to come out of my shelter. If it wanted to attack and kill I would let it, pulling on a pair of shoes, I left the house and wondered down the rusted steps of the old apartment buildings, you could imagine now what San Francisco looked

Like with a blanket of fog covering your heals.

It was like an old movie, I thought to myself of course, without a smile because smiling was for those who were happy, or new something that you didn't also there were those who would smile at you just to bother you. Simply what this fellow was doing now,

He must have found me amusing sense he kept grinning like a fool, grinning like liar.

This was not the stench of death that I smelt in my apartment, it seems that the farther I got away from my apartment, the lesser the smell got. Usual clothing, something that would be odd in any other town mind you, I live in San Francisco, China Town none the less, a world with it's own rules.

Forwards and backwards, push and pull, there all backwards and upside down if that makes any sense. Green eyes brighter than I had ever seen them, but they were bright enough to reflect in mine, mine were black and he new I was something special as he whispered it into my ear, I spun around with the quickness I had never had before, how many times could I have used that!

"Another one," I simply stated in annoyance, his red hair draped over his face and he smiled, his black clothing kept him from the cold, lucky bastard. I forgot my coat due to the spontaneous sprint of curiosity, "No." he answered my question and put a quiet finger to his red lips. "Something different." He whispered in an eerie voice that somewhat frightened me and I was a hard one to frighten, "Unless you're that horrid smell flooding my apartment, explain your self."

Ok, so I'm a horrible joker, give me a break! "I should ask you to do the same." People walking along the midnight street began to stare at me, let's just say I grew a tad bit uncomfortable. "I don't know if you'd like that, I'm a bit complicated," like I said, bad joker. He smiled his pearly white teeth at me, Im surprised that I didn't go blind.

But if I had known then, I would have known his eyes would have blinded me instead.

"Nobody can see me." he said in his whispery tone, "you're a liar." I said and he smiled,

I expected a laugh but I guess that I was expecting a little too much. "Who are you?"

I questioned hoping for answers, knowing I would get none. "Kettai." He was just a bit to close to me I saw there was a cloth covering his eyes; the hood was to big for his head.

I could see all of this now, sense there was light on him. His long red hair hung past his shoulders, his long white fingers nails traced down the side of my face. "You are going to be a very, busy boy Furaito."

"Here Rhys." A boy with long brown hair took off a necklace, his blue eyes smiled at the smaller boy in front of him. As he hung the necklace over his neck, "Nigai?" he blinked

In confusion, "Im giving this two you."

The two boys stood in a darkened corner away from the rest of their kind, the smaller boy with pink hair and blue eyes as well. "But."

"No." Nigai covered the boys mouth with his index finger, "I want you to have it,"

The night settled in peacefully as it always did. The necklace was of importance to Nigai,

And he gave it away. "I love you." Nigai whispered and kissed him gently, the moment was perfect, everything set up just as Nigai imagined it. Countless years of wanting and he finally had it.

The stomping of horses and yells heard on the horizon. "Kill them all!" a man on a black horse, with long black hair commanded his troops, and the other's went in hacking and slashing at the innocent people, blood flung everywhere.

"NIGAI" Rhys yelled and clung to him, the two hid for a good long time as the attack took place, the mercury colored eyes of the man in charge didn't seem to see them!

Rhys thought they were both going to get out of this. They could both make it. And they would! "Is that the rest of them?" the man in charge spoke to one of his men and the man said "yes." Oh how wrong they were! And Rhys new it, Nigai new it

"Good, come back then." The stomping of horses and the silence took over. "Nigai" Rhys said happily as they had been the only ones to escape. And yet, sad because they were the only ones

Nigai had been still half of the time.

"Nigai we made it." He whispered looking at the face of his lover and seeing the close eyes as the hair fell in his face, "Nigai?" tears started to fill his eyes, "Nigai, come on I hate when you play these games." He gasped as he saw the blood run down his arm,

And it took over his back. "Nigai!" he was speaking to the dead now.

He hugged him "why now?" he whispered in a choke of tears, "Why today?"

That man that sat upon the black horse was forever burned into his mind,

Once he found him.

Rhys would be happy to play a game with him, one game that nobody ever lived from. A game that their little pack of necromancers lived by

Play dead or be dead, he laid Nigai down on the ground, and said his good byes.

He left the place where he had grown up all his life, all the memories he ever had and would always be there. The battles that they one and the battles that they lost, wondering and wondering into towns and out of towns, that sent of death never seemed to leave him.

Not to far from it, he found himself in San Francisco, it seemed to be a busy little town,

He thought to himself on more than one occasion, no matter how late that it got there always seemed to be people about, and the later it got.

The weirder the people that were out seemed to be. Gazing at all the old buildings, and some new ones he didn't hear or see him coming.

And he was knocked flat on his butt on the concrete. "Ow." He said rubbing his head,

Furaito repeated the word and sat up. "Watch where you're going would you?" Furaito said,

Angrily. "You're the one running around like a mad man!" Rhys scoffed "Running around like you didn't even see me!" the two glared at each other. "Look I don't have time for you." Furaito said, standing and brushing himself off. Not offering a hand,

Rhys figured he wouldn't so he stood and got up himself. "Why are you in such a hurry?"

Rhys said, being nice. Maybe he could help out, "some weird invisible guys after me."

// Ok that's it, // Rhys thought. // This is the weirdest town ever //

"I have a name you know." Furaito jumped without a word and glared, "God damnit!"

at least with this kid around, Furaito wouldn't seem like a crack head, talking to the thin air like he did back a couple blocks away. "Would you leave me alone!"

Kettai laughed, Rhys stared blankly. "You. Do know who that is don't you?" Rhys said tugging on Furaito's sleeve, "Yeah some freaking stalker." Rhys shook his head in disagreement.

" Who am I Rhys?" Kettai questioned, knowing he remembered his encounter with Rhys as a child. "It's. It's the God of Death."

(Furaito's point of view)

Al righty then, when you suddenly get smacked in the face with the information, "humans aren't the only humans roaming planet earth." You get a little freaked out.

I mean, for Gods sakes (no pun intended) the God of Death? What the ever-living fuck is he doing in San Francisco! That's what I wanted to know. And then ever so suddenly by freak chance I caught that sensation that someone was watching, and that's all I wanted right now.

Because I have a feeling, when I start to get that feeling. It means someone's watching me! I searched the streets left and right. And then glared the hell out of what I saw.

A cute little garden gnome, why? Why of all things a garden gnome? Excuse the whining, but it's getting late and im starting to get sleepy, "your joking." I said and blew the two off so that I wouldn't be interrupting their little stare down. Casually, I walked across the street and stared into its creepy cement eyes.

"Yes" Kettai coughed. "That's. A garden gnome you're looking at Furaito" I couldn't believe he said that. " I know what it is." The pink haired boy happily pranced over across the street to peer at it along side with me. "Question is how did it get here?"

Suddenly, he was a happy little kid from wherever the hell he was from, I don't get these people, I probably never will. "Oh I know!" He said raising his hand and the necklace spun with the force of gravity. "Maybe it's the government and they're spying on us!"

I scoffed, "Don't be ridiculous! What the hell does the government care anyway?" the

boy frowned. Rhys, boy I can call him whatever I want, it's my story damnit!

"There always spying on someone" he said Kettai stayed the way the hell on the other side of the street, which apparently, I'm thankful for. "Well, you've got a point there."

Crouched down I poked at the Garden gnome, "Oh well," I stood and then faced him.

"What were you talking to me about a half hour ago?" I blinked at him; I guess the drugs were starting to FINALLY take affect.

"This is helpless." I heard Kettai mutter and then he walked off. "Oh! My name is Rhys!" he held out his hand (in which, his nails were painted black mind you) "Furaito" what the hell, you got to have friends some where along the line right? I shook his hand and he gazed down the street. "Hey!" he said pointing down at a coffee shop.

"The Coffee shop is open! You wanna grab some hot chocolate?" I blinked; my mind from here on out would always be confused, "Sure." I shrugged and we headed off for hot chocolate.

I guess he isn't so bad.
