Following Neko

Melissa C. Berry

I once had a best friend from my childhood, who was a kitsune demon. He and I were in separate able; but one day my mom told me, we were moving. I ran to Neko, my best friend, and told him. He shouted about how unfair that was, but my mother came and took me away. I never saw Neko again.

Now fourteen years later, I have come back to the town of my childhood. Since I had moved, I often thought of Neko, now I have come back looking for him. I asked around and found out, Neko had moved about three years ago to New York.
The day I moved I had made a silent promise to follow Neko to the ends of the earth. Now I was going to keep that promise.
When I arrived in New York, I was amazed at how many people there was. I began to wonder how I was going to find Neko. I asked people how to get to Central Park. I got some directions from a nice young lady, who worked at a doughnut shop. I got a taxi and rode to Central Park. I sat on a bench all day, looking at a picture of Neko and me when we were eight years old. He was so cute, with his silvery-black hair, cute black fox ears, cute little fox tail, and sweet large green eyes. I guess I was cute, too; with my blonde hair and silvery-blue eyes.
I don't know why I looked up, but I did. A man walked into the park, he was a kitsune demon; it was Neko. I just could not help but whisper his name, and he must have heard me, because he turned and looked at me. I watched as his eyes widen to the size of saucers. Neko just stared at me, I began to walk toward him, but he met me half way. He just could not believe it was me.
" Komadori, is it really you?" he said in an excited voice.
" Yeah it's me. I came looking for you."
" Why?"
" Because I made a silent promise, I would follow you to the ends of the earth. It has taken me fourteen years to work up the courage to look for you. I thought you would be mad at me, because it took me so long to come back to you." I said starting to cry.put his arms around me and said:
" Komadori, you know I would never be mad at you, never. Now c'mon stop crying, and tell me where you're staying, I'll take you back to the hotel." Neko whisper into my ear.
" I don't have a place to stay, I just got here."
" The you'll stay with me, c'mon."

We went back to his place, I stayed with him for several weeks, in that time we got to know each other again, by the end of four months we got married, and a year later we had our first child. I still remember my promise, and I'm never leaving Neko every again.
