Chapter 2: Into the Forest
Harry stared up at the ceiling, unblinking. He just couldn't sleep. No matter how hard he tried. He just couldn't.
There was a weird, nagging feeling in his stomach. It kept telling him to do something. What it was, he didn't know. Yet, he felt that he needed to get up and walk off some of his pent-up energy.
With a resigned sigh, the 16-year-old wizard swept back the covers of his bed and pulled on a flannel shirt over his jeans and wife beater. (Note: that's a type of shirt)
Slowly, he crept to the window and drew it open, careful to not wake the snoring Ron in the bed across the room.
As soon as the window was opened, Harry quickly yet quietly slipped out the window and onto the shadowed roof slope that stretched from the entrance to Ron's room.
Harry had used the window more than once to slip outside, but never during the night- time. This made Harry slightly nervous, but...it excited him at the same time.
Harry jumped carefully from the edge of the roof slope and landed on his hands and knees on the soft, grass-covered backyard of the Weasley house. There was a forest behind the garden, and Ginny, Ron, and even Fred and George had always warned Harry to never go in there.
Apparently, Ginny and Ron had gone into the forest a few years ago, and had something scare them so much that they couldn't talk for nearly a week.
This would have scared away anyone else, but not Harry. This just made him want to go into the forest even more. And he would go in there.
Harry took his time walking towards the forest, but something stopped him before he could go in.
"Going somewhere, Potter-san?"
Harry jumped and looked around frantically.
He heard an exasperated sigh. "Up here, baka-san."
Harry looked up and heaved a sigh of relief. "Oh, Minako, it's just you."
"Just me?" she gave him a skeptical look, raising a delicately arched eyebrow. This seemed to suit her.
"Well, it's better than running into a werewolf or something," Harry retorted. "What are you doing up and out here at this hour?"
"I was about to ask you the same thing, Mr. Sneaky, and I noticed that you aren't exactly dressed for bed either," she said pointedly.
"I am not a Mr. Sneaky. And how did you get up there?"
"How else? I climbed."
"Oh. Well, later!"
"You're going into the forest?"
"Yeah? What else would I be doing? Dancing with the garden gnomes?"
Minako chuckled. Now that was a mental picture.
"Well, then, I'm going with you."
"No, you're not."
"I am not about to allow my new friend to go into a dark forest alone. Especially a friend who has a knack for getting into life-or-death situations."
"Hey, I don't end up in that many life-or-death situations."
Minako raised one of her midnight brows again.
"What?"
Minako shook her head and sighed. "Whether you want me to or not, Potter-san, I am going with you."
Harry sighed as well. "Whatever. Do what you want."
Minako nodded and followed him to the edge of the foreboding forest.
Harry paused before finally stepping into the forest's embracing darkness. He shivered suddenly.
"Something wrong, Potter-san?" Minako whispered, amusement tinting her voice.
"No. No, I'm fine. Just a chill is all."
The two walked in silence for nearly two hours before Minako stopped. Harry nearly bowled her over.
"Watch it!" Minako hissed in irritation.
"Well, sorry." Harry muttered.
Minako placed a hand over his mouth and pulled him down to sit next to her in a crouching position on the moss-covered ground.
Harry removed her hand. He had no idea what was going on.
"What is going-" Then, he heard it, a light chuckle. Followed by another, identical to the first.
Minako sighed and loosened up from her uptight position on the ground. "Nikolas! Kristopher!" she barked, "I know you're there! Come out you two nimrods!"
"Ah, Mina-chan! No fair!"
Two shadows dropped to the ground and landed in identical stances. They stood, and Harry saw them. What he saw truly frightened him, though.
Two men, about the age of twenty or so by the look of them, stood before Harry and Minako.
The two had extremely familiar raven-colored messy hair and the lean and skinny build that Harry had. That was what scared him. These two looked like two older versions of himself... except for their eyes, which were midnight black.
The two walked over to Minako, who hugged them and kissed both of them once on the cheek. The two returned the favor. Then they wrapped her up in a tight bear hug and dropped her onto the ground.
"Ow! You two! That hurt!"
"That was the point, little one!" the one by the name of Nikolas said in a taunting voice. It seemed that these three were very familiar with each other.
Nikolas and Kristopher turned to Harry and their twin obsidian eyes widened.
"M-Minako, is this him?" Kristopher whispered in a low voice that Harry could barely hear.
"Yes, that's him. Hope you guys are happy. It took me forever to get him to let me come with him."
The two boys nodded, and Harry was confused.
"WAIT! WHAT IS GOING ON!!??" Harry yelled.
"What do you mean, Potter-san?"
"I mean, how do you guys know each other? And what does this have to do with me?"
Minako smirked. "Potter-san, I would like you to meet Nikolas and Kristopher... Potter."
Harry stared, then laughed. "What does that mean? I mean, what are they? My brothers or something?"
"Wow, Minako, he's smarter than we thought." Nikolas said in an amused voice.
"Wait, so...you guys...are my...brothers?"
The two nodded.
Harry shook his head in disbelief. "I don't believe this." He turned around and began to walk away.
"Harry." Nikolas appeared in front of him.
"Just hear us out." Kristopher did the same.
"Why? I've already been told that I am the last Potter alive."
"Well, no, you're not." Nikolas said.
Kristopher placed a hand on his shoulder and looked him in the eyes. "Harry, sit down. You'll want to hear us out."
Something in Kristopher's eyes seemed mesmerizing. Harry sat down, though it felt like it wasn't of his own will. "Well, I'm waiting for an explanation."
Kristopher and Nikolas sighed and sat down on either side of him.
Nikolas began. "Okay, Harry, I guess where I should begin is where this all started, with Voldemort's attack. You know, Harry, that our parents were married for nearly six years before Voldemort killed them?"
"No, I didn't."
"Well, they never told anyone about Kristopher and me. The hospital did, and they were sworn to secrecy until we could go to Hogwarts ourselves. Which we did do. But that's not part of this story, Harry. What this story is, we hope you'll believe. You see, we were about five or six when Voldemort attacked. You were sleeping upstairs in your little crib, and Mum, Dad, Kristopher and I were playing Exploding Snap in the living room. Dumbledore appeared in the fire and told us that Voldemort was coming our way. And he was close. We didn't know how close until it was too late. Dad pushed us out the back door and told us to run and never look back. We did look back. But we ran over to the forest behind our house. We watched as Mum and Dad ran up the steps to go and get you, to help get you out, too."
Kristopher picked up the story. "Yet, Voldemort came before Dad could get up the stairs. Dad fought him, but died before he could get up even five of the steps. Mum was in your room, trying to get you up before Voldemort came through the door. But she died as well when she wouldn't move away from the crib. We saw Voldemort try to kill you, but we saw a red light that rebounded the Avada Kedavra charm and hit Voldemort..." His voice trailed off and Nikolas continued.
"When he heard Mum's scream, Kristopher tried to get back to the house, but I had to hold him back." Both sets of black eyes gleamed with sudden rage and sorrow. "I told him to remember what father told us, and he stopped struggling. All we could do was run, we knew you were alive, but we had to run because a man was coming to get you to take you away. We ran until morning, and then we cried. We wanted to get you back, but...we couldn't without letting many from the wizarding world know of our existence.
"Our existence was shown at Hogwarts a few years later. We left Hogwarts before you could enter it. We...wanted to go get you, Harry. We truly did. But...we had no idea where you were."
Kristopher decided to speak. "Harry, I know that you don't believe us. But, we tried everything from going to fortune tellers, to the muggle police force. But, we just couldn't find you. Harry, please, believe us."
Harry looked between the two vampires, wanting to believe what they said, but... he had to think.
Harry stood, and walked a few feet away. "Listen, I'll come back later. I just need to think. I don't know if I believe you or not...but...I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. I'll see you later."
With that, Harry left and returned to the Weasley home, Minako trailing behind after bidding the twins farewell.
::Next Morning::
Harry groaned when the light stabbed at his eyes. Ron really needed to get some blinds for his window.
"Potter-san. Potter-san! Weasley-sama said that it's time to wake up." Minako's alto voice penetrated through the pillow over Harry's head and rang in his ears.
"Go away, Yami!"
"Potter-san, my name is Minako. And the last thing I am going to do is to go away. Weasley-sama said for me to come and wake you up. It's nearly mid-day."
"So?"
"Potter-san! UP!!!!" she yelled and ripped the warm blanket off of his body, letting a freezing cold draft over his body.
Harry curled up and pulled the ragged pillow tighter over his head. He was still wearing his clothes from last night, he'd been too fatigued to change into his pajamas.
Minako grabbed the threadbare pillow and attempted to yank it off his head, but Harry held it still.
The raven-haired girl sighed and then smirked as an idea came to her. "Potter-san, if you don't get up soon I'll force you."
"Yeah right!" His voice was muffled, but Minako heard him clearly.
Minako sighed. "Okay, but, I warned you."
Minako leaned over the bed and ran a slender finger up Harry's spine.
Harry jumped off the bed and nearly backhanded her.
Minako easily grabbed his hand, smirking.
"What was that for?!" Harry nearly yelled.
"Well, I warned you. Now, come on Potter-san, Weasley-sama is making lunch, and we are to go to Diagon Alley today for school supplies. The letters came while you were sleeping." The amusement had left Minako's voice and was back to it's old unemotional tone.
God, didn't this girl know how to put emotion into talking? Harry pulled on a different shirt as he followed her downstairs and into the kitchen, waiting for what the day would bring...
Well, that's all for now! Read and review!
