Fan Fiction ❯ From Heaven or Hell ❯ The Beginning of the End [Part 1] ( Chapter 1 )
* Ok I have changed this story around quite a bit. Ummm I mean…a lot. It will still be the same story in the end, but with a different beginning. This is what I have now; I will post more when I get it typed up. Thanks for waiting ^_^
The Beginning of the End
I shifted in my chair, hoping to find a more comfortable position, to no avail. I glanced at my watch; we had been here three hours now. I was on edge, everyone was. I could feel it hanging heavily in the large room. I looked over the edge of the balcony at the senators below, all their faces blank, looking towards the front of the room. There stood Devin. His long sleeved suit hid the scars on his arms, but there was no masking the ones on his face.
`Relax', came a soothing voice, causing me to look up. I turned and looked to my right, Dave looked back at me, giving me a small smile, `It's going to be alright.' I sighed and looked back to Devin, `As much as I would like to believe that', I thought to Dave, `I can't right now.' He took my hand, squeezing it lightly; I knew he was worried too.
"You…You people, if that's what you call yourselves, ask us for forgiveness, t-to accept you?" The President shuffled his papers around, "Lets put this into prospective here. You destroyed about half the city of Helena and burned thousands of acres of forest in Northern Montana, destroying around 100 homes! Sixty people died! Does that mean nothing to you!!" the President paused, catching his breath, "You did this and still you want us to trust you? You want us to believe you are not a threat to human life?!" glaring daggers at Devin he continued, "How could you even suggest such a thing?"
It was not going well for us, the last three hours just came full circle and I didn't want to hear it anymore. Devin wasn't getting anywhere with these people. There were only about 300 of us left now, and we were all relying on Devin. What happened here, today, decided our future. I looked behind me at the faces of my now friends and family. No emotion showed on any of them. They seemed lost, almost dead. My soul ached for these people and how I once knew them to be. I had known a great many of them for over seven years now. I looked to Reba, sitting to my left. Worry was etched into her face. Her normal calm and strong exterior was nowhere to be seen. I looked back toward Devin. The strong demeanor he had going into this was fading away. I wanted to yell out at them. To get through to them somehow how important this was to all of us. Not just those of us sitting here, but to future generations, those in hiding, and those who had not yet reached their winged state. They looked at the few, the small picture. They would condemn an entire people because of what a handful had brought about. In the long run we saved thousands more than we killed in the past years. Helena was the perfect example of this. We helped get people out and protected them when the fighting broke out. Our leaders knew human death would not help us in the end. They were more right than any of us could have imagined.
I was drawn out of my thoughts when the senators and president left. "We're going back to the hotel now Diana." Reba whispered into my ear. They had us living in a hotel the last few weeks. It was guarded heavily; there was no escaping. I sighed and thought to myself, `What do we do now Ian? Where are you?' I stood with the others and made my way towards the doors. I felt Dave's hand on my shoulder, turning me around to face him. I looked up into his eyes. He smiled, a glimmer of his old self showing; if only for a moment. He pulled me close and whispered into my ear, "Go left. Third door on the right." I nodded and turned to go.
No one paid close attention to me as I made my way down the hall. I slowly made my way to the right, counting the doors in my head. `…two…three. This is it.' Glancing around to make sure no one was watching I slipped quickly into the room. Gently pulling the door closed behind me, I turned around.
My breath caught in my throat. There he was, alive, standing right in front of me. His face held a scar, running down his right cheek, and his expression was blank, but his electric blue eyes still held their old spark. A small smile graced his lips as tears formed in my eyes. I ran towards him, throwing my arms around him. I kissed him lightly, pulling back quickly, surprised at my own actions. His smile turned into a grin as he leaned down and returned my chaste kiss with one of passion. He ran his tongue along my lower lip asking for entrance, which I granted him. Dragging his tongue across my teeth he began eagerly exploring my mouth. So wrapped up in our own world we did not hear the door open or close behind us.
"Ahem"
We pulled apart quickly and turned around. Wiping the tears from my eyes I smiled, "Hey Devin."
He returned my smile, "It didn't look like such a bad kiss Diana. Why the tears?" He winked at me and I could feel the blush rising in my face. He chuckled lightly, "Glad to see you still among the living Ian. It's been a while."
"Yeah", said Ian, taking a seat on the leather couch beside him, "Someone said you were looking for me." Devin's smile faded and he heaved a sigh. Motioning for me to take a seat, he pulled a chair up to the couch. Sitting next to Ian, I waited for Devin to speak.
Devin looked up slowly, I never saw him look so old and tired as he did in that moment. "I…I am honestly afraid. Nothing good is going to come of this." He paused, lost in thought. "It's up to you two. I cannot make them even begin to understand us. They fear us, and that is our greatest disadvantage at this time. Humans hate what they fear. You must reach out somehow to those out there that will understand." Devin grasped both our hands in his, drawing us forward. "Show them, tell them everything. Don't hold back. I don't know how but I know you will think of a way." He turned to Ian. "This is where you come in. You know where it is safe. Look after her. She is more important to us than you or I could ever imagine. You must get her away from here. Please do this for me, as my last request."
I placed my hand on Ian's arm. He was tense; this was no simple task. "I'll do my best Devin, that is all I can promise." Determination was set in his voice. Devin sighed heavily and stood, "I have to go. Good luck to you."
*What do you think? I know it may seem confusing for those who were reading this story before, but don't worry, it will all make sense in the end. For the other people, I hope you like it so far. ^_^
