Fan Fiction ❯ Girl Of My Dreams ❯ The Beginning ( Chapter 1 )
Chapter 1
The beginning
Evvyana was helping a bit in the tavern. She served some men their beer and ale. Her brown hair loose on her back and her blue eyes looking around every now and then. She was wearing a lightcoloured dress and no make-up as usual.
Eric, waved at Evvy as he entered the tavern, letting her know, that he was here for his shfit, and that she could go. He pulled his long golden hair, off his shoulders, and into a pony tail with a thin, piece of bark that had been soaked in sap, to be made a pony tail holder. His brown leather pants, and blue silky shirt, contrasted cruelly with his piercing green eyes. He pulled a log from the wall, noting that both he and Evvy had come to work.
She smiled and gave the plate to him. "Thanks for taking over, i'll be around if you need help." She said, and sat down with some friends of her.
Nodding, he smiled, at the woman who had held his heart scince the day they had met 7 years ago. Her blue eyes, sparkled in a way that not even god could do twice. The curls of brown silk, that topped her head, and fell down her back, were like the finest strands of god's gold. Never being able to work the courage up, to ask her to the annual Fest, he had never gotten to be with her. Sighing he took the plate of bread, the bowl of soup, and a pint of ale, to a customer, near Evvy.
Evvyana was seventeen and her parents owned the tavern. She always liked to help and talk with her good friend, Eric. She looked at him smiling and talked further with her friends, talking about the annual Fest.
Eric, himself being eighteen, had been granted a job by Evvy's parents at the tavern. He ahd good wages, for which he was grateful. A gush of cold wind, filled the air, right beside Evvy, as someone pushed the door open, and pushed the block under the door to keep it open.
She looked behind her, at this person. "Excuse me, could you please shut the door? Its a bit cold." She said.
With a growl, a short man, who looekd to be a dwarf, glared at her. "We've got packages movin' in, Miss. The door'll be open for a good hour. I suggest ya leave if yer cold." He gorwled lowly again. Eric, glaring at the dwarf, moved behind the bar, and grabbed his leather cloak. He handded it to Evvy, wrapping it around her shoulders, with a smile.
There wasn't any spot left over to sit so she had to stay there. She smiled at Eric who gave him his cloak. "Thank you Eric." She looked back at the dwarf. "What packages?"
Nodding slightly, Eric went back to work, as the dwarf replied. "None of yer buisness, Miss. Just packages."
"I may know what it is, my father and mother own this place." She said back.
"Then yer mum and da, can tell you. I'm on strict orders..Miss."
"Okay then.. I guess.. Now please hurry with those packages, its freezing." She said. A friend of her poked her in the arm. "So.. Got a date yet for the Fest?" "The Fest? Oh. No. No one asked me."
Eric, hearing her reply, couldn't help but smile. If he couldn't have ehr...then as horrible as it sounded, he was glad that no one else could either.
"No one? I thought people where dying to go with you." Her friend said grinning. "Well.. There where people who asked me, but i didn't wanted to go with them."
'Great..' Eric thought. She was holding otu for someone. Most likely Veran, the poncy git. He set a glass of beer, and a plate of bread on a table, before turnign his attentions back to the girls.
"Why? With whom do you want to go with? Veran?" she said smiling. "No. I hate that guy. Don't tell anyone.. But i'm waiting for Eric to ask me.." She said giggleing.
Arching a brow, he smirked. SO she was waiting for him to ask her...hmm..He made his way back to the table, and bent down beside Evvy. "Pardon me, ladies, but can I steal Ev from you for a moment? I need her help in the kitchen."
"You can." She smiled and winked at Evvyana. Evvy stood up and went to the kitchen with him. "With what do you need help with?"
Moving forward slightly, he looked down, and then back up at her eyes. "Evvy..go to the Fest with me.."
She blushed and smiled. "I-i'd love to.." She said, glad he asked her.
Smiling, he chuckled, wrapping her in a hug.
She blushed even more and hugged him back. "We should better return.."
"Why..Why not sneak away with me tonight.." He whispered in ehr ear, his breath brushing against her sensetive skin, as he teased her.
"Sneak out? Where to? And what about my parents?" She said a bit afraid of what he'd do.
"Just to the lake, Evvy..Sit and watch the sunset with me.."
"Uhm.. Okay.. I guess.." She said smiling a bit. "Its a bit cold though.. I should take my cloak with me.. " She said undoing his cloak and giving it back, then taking her black one.
Smiling he nodded, accepting the cloak, and drapping over one arm, while the other held the door open for her.
She walked outside and waited for him. "Last one who gets to the lake is loser!" She said running as fast as she could to the lake.
He laughed, jogging behind her, to let her win.
She got to the lake and sat down. "Loser!" She shouted.
Laughing, he came to a stop beside, her and sat down.
"Why did you ask me to go to the Fest?" She said, looking at him.
"Why did I-.." He was confused. He turned to her, taking her hands in own. "Evvy...how could I not want you to go with me? You're beatiful.." He whispered running a hand softly through her hair, and then brushing the knuckles of his hand softly against her cheek. "You're smart. You're kind, and wonderful...You're perfect Ev.."
She blushed deeply. "I'm not.. beautiful.. " She shivered at the feeling of his cold hand against her cheek. "Neither perfect.."
"Yes...Yes, you are, Evvyana. As perfect as god himself. As beautiul as the sun is hot.."
She blushed deeper. "No.. Why do you say those things..?" She gently did his hand away from her face and looked at the ground shyly.
"Because they are true, Evvy!"
"Thank you then.. i guess.." She said, staring at the lake and changing the subject. "The lake is pretty when its night.. Don't you think?"
"Yeah...gorgeous.." He murmered.
"With the moon and the stars.. Its a bit romantic.." She said, still staring at the lake.
"Yeeah.." he agreed, laying back, and looking at the sky, occasionaly looking at Ev.
She got a tiny grin on her face and took his hand in hers while she was looking around a bit.
Squeezing her hand gently, he smiled.
"Its fun to sneak out.. with you.." She said, not looking at him to tease Eric.
"Oh really?"
"Yeah.. If i go with Lydia.. All she talks about is what Veran looks like. It makes me vomit." She giggled and finally looked at Eric while still holding his hand.
Chuckling, he met her eyes. "So you sneak out with Lyd alot, then?"
"Yeah.. And she's talking about other boys too.. Which look good, which look bad. It sometimes makes me laugh when i hear her saying she thinks Cornel looks cute."
Chuckling, he sat up, still clutching her hand.
"I think she fancy's him. I noticed it about the way she talked about him. Though Cornel isn't the prettiest guy in the world."
Nodding, he smiled, at the way she rambled on.
"What do you want to talk about?" She grinned. "You can choose."
"well..if I had my choice, I would talk about you.."
"About me? Uh.. Sure.. i guess.."
He smiled. "Then you agree with me? You are beautiful."
"Well.. I don't think i am.. but if you say so.." She smiled sweetly.
"Evvy...I'm not leaving until I convince you that your gorgeous."
"Okay okay.. i don't think i'm ugly." She said smiling and winked at him.
"Good" He said, smiling.
"What else do you want to say about me, i'm the subject."
"You're lovely, and brilliant.." He paused for a moment, gazing into her eyes. "Adorable, and perfect..I could go on for hours.."
She gave her sweet smile again. "Thanks Eric.." Giving a squeeze in his hand
"It's true..Ev..What...what would you do if..I said I loved you?"
"You.. love.. me?" She said looking in his eyes.
"I do.." He said nodding, but never breaking their eye contact.
She went a bit closer and leaned over to his face as she gave him a soft kiss on his cheek.
He kissed her cheek as well, and started to play with her hair.
She giggled. "You like my hair don't you?"
He smiled and nodded.
She kissed him on his cheek again and whispered in his ear. "I love.. you too.."
He smiled, and moved closer to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head against his chest..
He stroked her back softly, planting a soft kiss amongst the brown curls.
"When where you planning to say this..?" She said, still holding on to him.
"That I love you?"
"Yeah.."
"Honestly? I never thought Id get the chance.."
"Why?"
"I never thought you'd return my feelings."
"I do.. already for a while.. I always noticed the way you looked at me.. Different from the others.."
He smiled, knowing what she meant.
"How long did you fancy me?" She asked.
He paused, taking a moment to remember the years. "Do you remember....when I first met you, about seven years ago,...in your parents tavern?"
"Yes, i do.. I was reading a book at the table i'm always sitting." She smiled.
He nodded, and smiled. "And your hair was down..like a veil infront of your face...I came in, the loner, with no parennts, looking for a place to stay, food, and a job for as long as I could stay.."
"Yeah.. I remember. I was reading one of my moms books.. My hair always flew in my face, i always had to brush it back behind my ears."
"That was when..When you I first saw you.."
"Since then already? But you hardly knew me.."
"It didn't matter...I knew that I loved you.."
"I never knew until now.. i mean.. now i'm sure.."
He smiled again, softly, tracing patterns on her back.
"Why did you already fancy me by then?" She said. "Sorry.. but i kinda want to know everything now.." She laughed.
He chuckled, at her enthusiasm. " It was...love at first sight, Ev. I don't know if I can explain it.."
"Sweet.." She said then realizing the sun was coming up. She went out of their embrace and stood up. "We have to go.."
Sighing, inwardly, he also stood, mentally cursing the sun. "You're right. Let's go.."
She walked to the tavern, not saying a word and went in. "Goodnight Eric." She said and went up the stairs for her room.
"Good Night, Evvy.." He whispered, as he began to lock up the tavern.
She went inside her room and undid her clothes, going in the bed. Already sleeping after five minutes she lay there.
Once the tavern was completly locked and, all the foods and drinks put away, Eric wrapped his cloak around himself, and moved towards the side building, near the tavern, that had become his home.
She dreamed about earlier and how it would be on the Fest.
Sleep, did not come easily for the young man, as his dreams held terrors of natures that he had never before told anyone. Terrors that haunted his past as a young child. Terrors of why he had come to this small town...
Evvy woke up and got dressed and all. When she came downstairs there where already some people drinking and chatting, so she immediatly helped her mother.
With a slight groan, Eric pulled himself out of bed. After an enormous escepade of putting his tunic on, he made his way into the tavern, his hair bristled form sleep, and his eyes a misty green, as he had not fully come to be awoken yet.
She didn't notice Eric coming in, so she did what she had to do. Giving ale or beer to the men and some bread.
Upon seeing Evvy, his eyes became their normal bright selves. His lips quirked in a smile, and he leaned against the wall, watching her.
She saw him, smiled and walked to him. "Its getting crowded in here and mom & dad say they'll handle it. Lets go to the lake, please?"
Nodding, he embraced her, as was his custom morning ritual, and led her to the lake.
She smiled. "Had a good sleep?" She said, taking his hand.
Shrugging, he smiled down at her. "It was..alright, I suppose."
"I slept well.. like usual.." She laughed. "I dreamed about you.."
"And were they pleasant dreams?"
"Yes.. They where.." She smiled
"Good.." Without warning, he picked herr up, and spun her in a circle, as they had done when they were little. Gently he placed her in the wooden swing that her father had made, and moved behind her.
She laughed. "Its been a while since you did that."
"I know.." He whispered in her ear, as he pushed lightly on her lower back, to get her swinging.
"How come?" She said, smiling.
Smiling, he shrugged. "We never come out here anymore.."
"Yes.. your right.." She went off the swing and looked around. "What can we do besides using this swing?"
He laughed, remembering the old times. "Do you remember..When we would sneak out Old Man Patty's farm and ate his blueberries?"
"Hehe.. Yes i do.. And i also had to throw up because i ate too mutch.." She laughed.
Laughing, he sat down, leaning against the tree.
She smiled and sat beside him, resting her head on his shoulder. "I miss the old days.. we always could play, not work.."
"Yes..but what would your parents do without us?"
"Good point.. They need us.." She lay down and looked at the sky thinking.
"What are you thinking about?"
"You." She said, with a grin on her face.
Grinning, he layed beside her, his fingers winding themselves in her hair. "What about me?"
"Picturing you naked." She said laughing. "No no... just joking.. I'm thinking about what you'll do on the Fest."
Laughing, he replied. "What do you mean?"
"Well.. How you'll look.. and what you'll do with me."
"Do with you..?" He asked, tickling her gently. "Well..I shall dance with you, until all hours of the night, feed you amazing food, and show you a joyous time."
She giggled and took his hand, so he couldn't tickle her anymore. "And after that?"
Teasing her he added. "And after that..I might just experiment with your naked train of thought.." He grinned, letting her know that he was joking.
She laughed. "Thats a good idea." She said, turning over to face him.
Rolling onto his side, to look her in the eyes, he became serious. "Really, Ev?"
She nodded and took his hand. "Yes.."
"Ev...don't say that for me...say it for you.." He gently stroked her cheek. " I don't want to hurt you.."
"I know Eric.. i know.." She smiled and kissed the hand who stroked her cheek.
He smiled at her, and remained silent, obsorbing her beauty.
"Only if you want too ofcourse.." She said, still smiling.
"Of course I do, Ev! More than just about anything.."
"I'm going to see you naked then." She giggled.
"Are you going to return the favor?" He asked, leaning forward and kissing her cheek softly.
She nodded. "I have too.. or else we can't do it." She smiled and gave a gentle kiss on his lips.
Returning the kiss, his hands made their way to be intwined in her hair.
She kissed his nose and stared at him. "I like your eyes.."
