My Story is the Truth
Toby woke up with a pounding in his head. He slowly opened his eyes. He couldn't focus straight. The room seemed a blur around him if he moved to quick. He put his hand on his forehead, and wiped his fingers across his hair. He sighed and tightly shut his eyes as the pounding increased.
Kristen was making breakfast in the kitchen. She knew Toby stayed out till 3 in the morning. She wanted to test him. She headed for the bedroom hearing a thud, “Toby?”
Toby had knocked the lamp off the side table; he was buried under the covers. He heard Kristen and stuck a hand out and motioned her to come in, “feeling sick, are we?” she asked. Toby moaned, “Putting it mildly, yes.” Kristen snickered to herself, “sweetie, what time did you come in last night?” there was a pause followed by, “whatever time I came in, is when I came in.”
“What time was that? You know, 1, 2, 3, midnight?”
“Oh…midnight.” Toby nodded.
“Midnight?” Kristen questioned, “You think you came in at midnight? Well, how did you come in?”
“Through the kitchen window.” Toby remembered that because he slipped off the counter and fell onto the floor landing on his finger which was swollen. Kristen nodded, “good. Do you remember how you reached the bedroom and how you got into bed?”
Toby pondered a while, and then he began his speech, “after hitting the kitchen floor, I didn't want to wake you up. So, I calmly stood and tip-toed down the hall. Then I slowly opened the door knob. I peeked inside and found you asleep. I climbed into bed and closed my eyes. The End.”
Kristen crossed her arms, “really? Well, I must have got it all wrong then…”
“Wrong what?” Toby asked, “Okay, fine. Let's hear your version of the story.”
“Well, after hitting the kitchen floor, you cursed several times. You tried to stand up but finally used the fridgerator door to help you. Then you miraculously made your way to the hallway. You spent 3 minutes trying to find the light switch, and 5 minutes trying to turn it on. Next you staggered down the hall and found our bedroom, but you realized, the hall light had to be off. So, you staggered back down the hallway and turned off the light. Then you stumbled till you found the bedroom door. You pulled on it several times before realizing that you had to push it. Then you opened the door. You tried to take off your shoe but, got the giggles and fell over, laughing on the floor. 5 minutes past and you got over your fit, you then climbed in bed, on my side. You climbed on and over me, your foot in my face. Then you lay down. You wiggled and squirmed for about 8 minutes. Finally you got comfortable and went to sleep.”
