I'll shut up now and type the story. By the way, the stuff in italics is a dream, and Emi's name is pronounced (long e's) Ee-me)

Chapter Two: A Daisy For Emi

"She's starting to get bags under her eyes-"

"If she doesn’t get some sleep soon, she'll collapse-"

"Why hasn't she been sleeping, anyways?-"

"Where is she now?-"

"Well I don't know, why don't you ask her?," asked Emi irritably.

It had been four days since they had left Emi's hut, but Emi had only slept six hours total since they had left. It was starting to take its toll on her. There were deep maroon bags under each of her amazing eyes; her hair was even more un-tamed than usual. But the worst part had to be that she was in an even WORSE mood then her commonly crabby self. Sokka's arm was starting to hurt from all the abuse it had been through. Let's just say this: Sokka was the only one Emi would bite when she was mad.

"We're sorry," said Katara, blushing.” We didn't mean to talk about you. We're just worried is all."

Emi glared at Sokka like this was all his fault. Sokka discretely moved behind his sister.

Aang beamed, then let his smile fade a bit as he became more serious and nervously asked," Why aren't you sleeping?"

"I am to sleeping!," exclaimed Emi defensively.

"Not around us you aren't," said Sokka. Emi leaned around Katara and bit Sokka's right arm in the same place she had the last sixty-two times. "Ow! I was just making a frigg'in observation...."

"Ok...so suppose I haven't been sleeping," Emi said slowly, pulling away from Sokka's wounded arm.” It’s my own business, isn't it?"

"No, it's not!," said Katara, worry evident in her voice.” The one time you DID sleep, you started crying! And besides that, we're your friends! Your well-being IS our business!" Katara was getting really worked up about this. Her eyes flashed dangerously, and Emi was afraid she was going to hit something. Then Katara started to cry. Just a few tears, but it was more than enough to make Emi feel horrible about putting so much stress on her friends.

"Look, I'm sorry if I made you worry," said Emi gently, putting a hand comfortingly on Katara's arm.

"It's ok. I just want you to get some sleep soon." Katara said shakily. Emi nodded.

"And I'm sorry for making you have to be serious for a moment!," Emi apologized happily, turning around and lifting Aang up into a huge bear hug.

"Hey! What about me?," Sokka asked angrily. "You permanently traumatized my arm!"

"Enough apologies!," yelled Emi.

Then she dropped Aang and passed out.

A five-year-old Emi walked alone in the forest on Kemekichi Island. Her grandmother had sent her out earlier that morning for Wart Root, (a/n which surprisingly enough is a real thing) but now it was so foggy out she couldn't see her own hand in front of her face. Or was it smoke that was blocking her vision? Emi couldn't quite tell. She made her way deeper and deeper into the forest, attempting to find her home.

Emi tripped over a tree root as thick as she was around the middle, coughing. The hand-woven basket filled with Wart Root she had been carrying fell out of her hand. She tried to get back up, but the thick smell that filled the air pushed all the oxygen out of her lungs, forcing her to lie back down. Definitely smoke.

"Emicca!," she heard her mother call out hoarsely.” If you can hear me honey, stay where you are!" She sounded so.... desperate.

"Shut UP!," Emi heard a strange man yell. There was a loud thunking sound, and the only thing that she could hear now was her little brother, Aaron, crying.

Against her mother's wishes, she finally managed to pull herself up by using the tree trunk as a brace. The smoke was starting to make her dizzy. Feeling along the trees, she could tell that she was close to home. The trees on the path to her house were all scratched up, from all the times her father had drove the cart down the road that was too small. But the closer she got to her house, the stronger the smoke became. It seemed as if the smoke was actually coming from her house.

After what seemed like an eternity, Emi came to the clearing that her house was in. She had been right in thinking that the fire had started from her home; she entered the clearing just in time to see half of the black, charred wooden frame that had once been her shelter come crashing down to the ground.

"Momma!," Emi cried out. "Poppa, Aaron, Nanny!" No response. The only sound was the crackling of the flames as they engulfed their surroundings. The pop of the wood, the sound of trees finally giving into the fire and snapping in half.

"Anybody!," Emi screamed out, starting to cry. "Can somebody please help me!" She finally just fell to the ground. Things started growing hazy around the edges. Finally, a girl around Emi's age leaned over her. Everything went black.

Emi woke up to the sound of someone screaming and crying. As she looked around at her friends concerned faces, she realized she had been the one who was screaming, and that a cry was still coming from her own mouth. Even Sokka looked worried. Katara reached into her bag and pulled out a small thermos of water, handing it to Emi.

"Bad dream?," she asked, a frown creasing her lovely face. Emi nodded. Aang jumped up and started digging in his pocket.

"I know something that will make you feel better!," he said cheerily. He pulled out two miniscule marbles, and by using air bending, made them start chasing each other. "Ta-da!"

Emi smiled and clapped a few times while Sokka rolled his eyes, and Katara took some water and knocked the marbles from Aang's hands, smirking.

"Hey!," he exclaimed, using some water bending himself and making the water turn back around and splash Katara in the face.

"Aak!," she yelled, taking a pillow out from underneath Emi's head and hitting Aang with it.

"Pillow fight!," cried out Emi happily, grabbing a pillow herself and hitting Sokka repeatedly with it so he couldn't reach one.

"We really need to stop somewhere with food on it, soon," complained Sokka while holding his stomach a few hours later.

"How about here?," asked Aang, pointing to a small island not too far away from where they were on the map. Katara and Emi peered over Aang's shoulder. Emi inhaled sharply. He was pointing to Kemekichi Island. Katara eyed Emi with concern, while Sokka ran up to Appa's head and grabbed the reigns.

"Food- I mean, Kemekichi Island, here I come!," Sokka yelled ecstatically.

"Um, Katara...," Emi started nervously. "Could I borrow a hairbrush?"

Ten minutes later, Appa landed on the small island with a big 'thud.' Sokka got off, muttering something about 'stupid fluffy monster', and the rest followed. Emi actually looked halfway presentable. Her long golden hair had been brushed, and Katara had let Emi trade her rags for one of her simple blue dresses.

"Why are you getting all dressed up?," Sokka asked perplexed as Emi started off in onto a small path in the opposite direction.

"Emi...?," Katara called after her friend, running to catch up with her. "Where are you going?"

Emi hesitated before saying," I have somewhere I have to stop by for a few seconds. I'll meet up with you guys later."
Katara gave her an odd look, but then nodded and ran off to join Aang and Sokka.

Emi walked down the old path, looking around at all the trees. A few minutes later she came to the landmark she had been looking for; a lopsided, faded gray wooden fence. The entrance to a grave yard. Emi jumped it and headed straight to the back. About fifty feet away from where she stood, she spotted it. What she had come here for.
At the very back, five graves stood a little ways away from the rest. Of course, they weren't really her family's graves; they had never found their bodies.

She bent down and picked a handful of the daisies that grew in clusters around there, and ran up to the headstones. Emi put one of the five daisies on four graves (really more memorials): her mothers, her fathers, her nanny’s, and Aaron’s. Then she stopped and smirked at the fifth, reading the marker at the head of it. It was her own. When the people of the island hadn't found her, they assumed she had perished in the fire along with the rest of her family. She tucked the fifth daisy behind her ear and blew a kiss to the memorials before running back towards the town to find her new friends.

That sucked. I am SO sorry. I tried to make it as informational as possible, but I think it came out way too Mary-Sue-ish, short, and sucky. I sincerely apologize. I'll try really hard to make the next one better and longer. Please review!
