Volume 1; Part 1:The Fire

 

Setting: Nagasaki, Japan

 

Summary: Mr. and Mrs. Tajiri die in a fire.

 

Points of View (P.O.V.'s): Naomi, Doujima and Minoku

 

 

Minoku's P.O.V.

 

I awaken at 6:30 to find my parents at work and my sister, Doujima, still asleep. I go through my morning routine. I leave for work at 8:15 arriving there forty-five minutes later. My manager, Mr. Achi, greets me, "Hello Mr. Tajiri."

I respond, "Hello Mr. Achi. Good morning." I continue, "What's the weather supposed to be like today? I didn't get the chance to see it before I left for work."

"Let's see...high of seventy-two with scattered clouds. Perfect weather for a barbecue."

"Sounds like it. Thanks for the info, Mr. Achi."

"Any time, Minoku." The first half of my workday was normal. At 11:15, I clock out and head home for lunch. Upon arrival, I find a note on the counter from Doujima that says she's out shopping with the Waka's. I get back to work at 12:45. At 14:00, Mr. Achi receives a call from my neighbor's number. The unnamed voice says, "Hello this is Mr. Nao. Whom am I speaking to?"

"Minoku's boss, Mr. Achi."

"Good Afternoon Mr. Achi. May I please speak with Minoku?"

"Yes. I'll get him." Mr. Achi comes and gets me handing me the phone. I head to the back. Mr. Nao greets me, "This is Mr. Nao. Am I speaking with Minoku?"

I respond, "Yes you are. Why did you call?"

"Your house caught fire burning down and killing your parents in the fire."

I start sobbing, "You want me to call off work, don't you?"

"Yes. Will you?"

"I will." We exchange goodbyes and hang up. I go and ask Mr. Achi to dismiss me from work after telling him what the call was about. He dismisses me from work, and I head home.

 

Doujima's P.O.V

 

I arrive home at 14:45 to see Mr. Nao surveying my now-destroyed house. I walk over to him sobbing. "What happened?"

He answers, "Your house caught fire and burned down."

"What about mom and dad?"

"They died in the fire." Right as my brother arrives home, I break down starting to cry. Mr. Nao waves Minoku over. My brother immediately rushes over hugging me upon arrival.

 

Naomi's P.O.V.

 

While Doujima and her brother are crying over the loss of their parents, I turn to my mother inquiring, “Would it be okay if the Tajiri's move in with us until this situation is figured out?”

She answers, “Yes, of course.” My father nods in agreement. My mother continues, “Please check with Mr. Nao before saying anything to Doujima and her brother about this.”

“Okay.” I walk over to Mr. Nao. “Excuse me, Mr. Nao.” He looks down at me. “May I ask you a question?”

He responds, "You certainly may."

"Would it be okay if the Tajiri's move in with my family until this situation is figured out?"

"Yes. Check with your parents first though."

"I have checked with them. My mother said Doujima and her brother could, to which my father agreed, and told me to check with you before saying anything to the Tajiri's about it."

"Oh okay."

 

Doujima's P.O.V.

 

As Minoku and I finish crying, I look up to see Naomi standing next to us extremely happy for some reason, considering the situation. I look at her asking, "Why are you so happy?"

The brunette replies, "I just checked with my parents and Mr. Nao to see if you guys can move in with us until this is figured out."

“What did they say?”

“They said it's a good idea.”

“Cool. What are Minoku and I going to do about clothing?”

“Let's see…Minoku's just a little shorter than my father so he can wear some of my dad's old clothes. You just went shopping with my family so you have some new clothes.” Minoku turns to her saying, “There's no need to worry about me. All of my stuff was stored away because I was about to move out anyway.”

I look at him weird. “Why wasn't I told before now?”

“I told mom and dad thinking they'd tell you right away, but it looks like I was wrong.”

“Why haven't they told me?”

“They were probably waiting for you to ask where I was.”

“Yeah, you're right.” I turn back to Naomi asking, “What about clothes for winter, spring and fall?”

“We can go shopping again.”

“That sounds good.” I continue, “Where will I sleep?”

“You'll sleep in the guest room.”

“Okay.”

 

Minoku's P.O.V.

 

I wait for my sister and Naomi to finish talking. After ten minutes, they finally finish. We exchange good nights and head our separate ways. They head to Naomi's house, and I head to my car. After entering my car, I head to the apartment I'm moving in to. I arrive there at 18:45 and check in getting a key to my room. I call to have my belongings delivered. My stuff arrives at 20:00, and I help the movers get it up to my room. After everything has been moved to my room, the movers leave, and I unpack.
