Chapter 7
Aren’t Flagpoles Fun?
Winter break had quickly come upon the Hoshi crew and they were all very exited to go home for the month or so. Amaya, Adrian, Cho, and Sydney had already packed, but observing that Sen had not had drawn questions. Adrian asked Sen as he came out the door to his room, “Aren’t you going to be leaving for the break?”
Sen shook his head, “Oh, no. It’s too far away to go home so I’ll just stay alone here.” That was partly the truth, the other part being he wanted to stay away from him mother as long as physically possible. If it meant he had to stay alone for the holidays, that’s what it meant.
Cho bounced up to the boys, much to the dismay of Adrian. “Oh don’t worry, Senny-sen. Gabriel never goes home for the breaks. You’ll have her to keep you company!!” She personally wouldn’t want to stay alone with Gabriel, but with Sen, one never knew.
Not particularly knowing whether that was a good thing or a bad thing Sen muttered, “Oh, why?” He wouldn’t mind getting to know her, but there was a good chance he’d not live to see the chance. How morbid he had become since he’d joined the dorm.
Cho shrugged cluelessly, not really knowing, but was answered for by Gabriel herself. “I have no boyfriend, no family, and no where to go. There for I stay here.”
Sydney joined the conversation, showing sympathy, “Oh, I’m so sorry. That’s horribly sad. I’m not sorry. It ain’t our problem. Shut up. Make me. We’re leaving!” She walked out down the stairs and out the front door fallowed by Adrian and Cho.
Amaya clapped her hands together and grinned broadly. “It is time. To the wine cabinet raid!” It was the best part of the holidays. Her family had made her life miserable it was time to return the favor and set them back a few bucks by consuming their most expensive wine. “See ya!”she yelled, skipping out the door gleefully.
Sen and Gabriel nonchalantly glanced at each other, sharing a knowing look. Amaya, though she didn’t live too far away wasn’t going to be around much over break. Thinking of nothing better to do Gabriel plopped down on the couch. Sen hesitantly began to try having a conversation, “So you have a fear of water?” Geese that was a stupid opening line.
Gabriel measured her words, “Ombrophobia, yes.” It was a long story, one she really had no intention of telling to anyone.
“Oh,” Sen muttered, sitting beside Gabriel. “Okay then.” Something to say, something to say. Anything that didn’t make him out to be an idiot would be nice. “So, we’re spending Christmas alone together then.” Yeah, that was good.
Staring with her large expressionless eyes, she muttered, “You have no reason to start a conversation wit me you realize.” Emotions were boring. Talking was boring. Having a conversation with him is just really lame.
“What if I want to get to know you?” There were a lot of questions he had about her and no answers. Besides, for living right next to each other for months, he knew relatively little about her.
She shook her head, “You probably don’t.” He’d never believe half of it regardless.
“Maybe the reason you have no friends is because your so damn hard to talk to!” he growled. Sen just couldn’t get why she was so guarded. All he had tried to do was be nice.
She turned to him, a dull fire beginning to burn in her eyes. “Or perhaps it would be because they’re all dead!” Gabriel’s cool was quickly being lost. It was one of her sore spots. The boy was going to die if he kept it up.
Sen was slightly taken aback by her. Looking down at his hands, and murmured, “I’m sorry.”
He’d already started her off. Gabriel wasn’t going to quit yet. “Yeah, so that’s what you get for talking about what you don’t comprehend!” She really was quick to temper, though she had an icy facade.
“Well, if you gave me a chance, I would!” A yelling match with Valentine, Neige was gonna flip. She was so frustrating.
Needless to say Gabriel was pissed. “Well, fuck you!!!” That had to be the best comeback of all fucking time. Fucking piece of shit, kid.
“What the hell is wrong with wanting to get tho know you?!?!” Sen yelled, getting in her face.
She became equally, if not more intimidating, “I’m too fucking screwed up want to know!!!”
“Well then, I’m an exception!!” Sen sneered, leaning over and planting a kiss on Gabriel’s lips.
Gabriel’s eyes widened. That was something she didn’t expect. Overcoming the shock, she began punching him several times until she was sure he was unconscious. The a few more punches where thrown in for good measure. Kicking him onto the floor, she began stripping his clothing off.
*********************
Sen awoke, completely unaware of his surroundings aside frm the extreme cold. As his vision began to clear and his senses began to kick in he realized where he was, duct taped to the flag pole in font of the campus, stripped down to his boxers. Unbeknown to him, ‘Stab Me’ was also written on his forehead in red sharpy. Cars driving by began to honk in random intervals. “Oh. My. Gods.” He was expecting to at least be maliciously beaten, but this was an extreme, even for her. “Damn you, Gabriel!” She could have at least kept his pants on.
“...Ahem.” The college superintendent cleared his throat, looking up at Sen. He’d been called in after people had reported a boy attached to the top of the flag pole in little-to-no clothing. “Would you care to explain yourself?” He raised his eyebrow. How the hell did someone manage to get him up there?
Sen paused for a second, shaking terribly, “Eh-heh, rival... dorm?” It was the best he could come up with while freezing his ass off.
“What is with youngsters these days?”the man sighed. The ‘prank’ probably involved the Hoshi Dorm as many of the school’s mishaps did, but as always he was forced to turn his head. There were just some people’s bad sides one didn’t want to get on. “I’ll go get the janitor. He’ll get you down in a moment.” he sighed.
The janitor had soon found a ladder and climbed up. Reaching at a corner of the duct tape the janitor slowly began to pull, then ripped full force. A cry echoed threw out the campus grounds, “Oh my fucking gods!!!!!!!”
Gabriel heard the screaming and felt a slight hint of satisfaction. Picking up her coffee, she took a long sip. It was a lovely day, wasn’t it?
Around fifteen minutes later Sen entered the dorm’s kitchen. He was dripping wet, shivering, and covered only with a blanket. “Gabriel!!!!” he screeched, his voice shaking along with the rest of his body.
“Yes?” she asked innocently. Why on earth was he outside dressed like that. It was obvious if one were to go outside in that attire they would catch hypothermia. It was far below freezing out after all. Then again she never did hold him to high expectations in the intelligence department.
He shot her an icy glare, “What the hell was that for?!” He could have been killed. He probably still could die actually. In fact his vision was blurring a little bit. Not answering, Gabriel just continued drinking her coffee. This only infuriated him, “Why won’t you answer me?” Receiving no reply, he turned and stumbled out of the kitchen and took a few steps. His vision blurring out, everything went black and he fell to the floor unconscious.
Sighing she sat down her coffee, “You’d think the idiots who ran this place would at least think to see if you had hypothermia.. Going up to him, she picked up the 19 year old bridal style. It was enough to kill her back. She was getting to old for this. Carrying him up to her room because she had accidentally put a new hole threw his ceiling while he was out, she sat him on her new futon. She had given up on traditional western beds. Going into his room she found him a descent change of clothing, brought it in her room, and set them on her bed. Covering him with a blanket, she proceeded to the down stairs to see what food she could round up.
Waking back up, Sen held his head. “Oi,” he noticed the dry clothing and began to observe his surroundings. He was in Gabriel’s room which had a distinctively Christmas theme of garland and twinkle lights. It would be more cheery if the decorations were not covering torture devices. “Why the hell am I here...”he muttered. “And why is it decorated.”
“Your room had a draft due to the accident I had on the roof involving putting a hole threw it. Mine however has no hole. The decor is festive.” Gabriel stated, walking into the room and handing him a bowl of just made shiro miso soup.
He would be worried about his room most of the time, but at the moment he was too worn out and cold to care. “Thanks.” he managed to say wearily, eyeing the bowl suspiciously before giving it a taste.
She sighed, starting to walk out of the room, “Yes. Well, sorry about it being miso. It’s all I can make for the most part.” Coffee was the other thing she could make well, but somehow a Sen with a caffeine buzz was just not all that appealing. He nodded in understanding and began staring out the balcony glass door he’d just noticed. Gabriel, not wishing to converse, made her way back down the stairs to her coffee, which was most likely cold. Sitting down on her stool which was labeled ‘Gabriel’s Stool, touch and die’ in silver sharpie. Now she had a sick boy to take care of, though she was good at taking care of anything medical related. She’d been taking care of herself for years. Hearing foot steps come down the stairs, Gabriel didn’t move. If Sen was coming down, he was coming down. She could reserve her energy for later. At least she could for a few seconds anyway.
Slowly walking threw the kitchen, Sen dropped his bowl in the sink and went back out, only to collapse on the first floor couch. He felt so tiered, it was ridiculous. Gabriel most likely wasn’t going to take care of him. The only reason he was in her room was because she put another hole through his ceiling. Double take, she put another hole through the ceiling?! Damn. He felt so drained. Thinking was too much work. Closing his eyes, he figured he could take a short nap before his descent up the two flights of stairs.
“You’re trying to break my back aren’t you?” Gabriel muttered poking at Sen, whom muttered something about pink tarantulas before peeking one eye open. “You shouldn’t have got out of bed, you moron. That is unless you wanna break your neck falling down the stairs.”
Was she concerned for him? She wouldn’t be, never. “I honestly didn’t think you’d care.” he murmured quietly. He had survived going into, partly anyway, her room three times. Just burley survived, but it had to count for something.
“Whatever.” she sighed, picking him up bridal style, yet again, and began walking up the stairs. Her body felt extraordinarily cold to Sen, not to mention that he didn’t understand how she could be carrying him. She could only weigh around 47 kg tops. Somewhere in mid-descent Sen had lost consciousness yet again and was sleeping comfortably in her arms. Finally making it up the stairs and dropping him roughly on her futon, she dropped into her black leather chair that had been built to look like an old electric chair.
Waking up several hours later, Sen held his head in pain, “Gah, stupid headache.” Feeling a pair of familiar eyes watching him, he peered up to see Gabriel still sitting in her chair. His vision was slightly blurred due to the fact he wasn’t wearing contacts like he normally did, but Gabriel was unmistakable. Had she been watching him the entire time?
Noting his awakening Gabriel jumped over, landing beside him on the futon with something held in hand. Holding up what turned out to be a pair of glasses in his face, she asked, “Are these yours?” She’d been looking threw his room for something that could be interesting to mess with when she’d come across a pare of spectacles. Sen took then, putting them on. “I didn’t know you wore any.”
“Yeah, I normally wear contacts so I can see why you wouldn’t.” he nodded. Seeing her confused expression, he realized she didn’t understand what they were. That was truly odd, but Gabriel just didn’t faze him anymore. She was just weird, attractive, but incredibly weird. Why had he even kissed her? She was so out of his league
Gabriel, not knowing what the hell they were, just stared blankly. She really aught to read up on those things. “Well, spectacles suit you.” she murmured.
“Thanks..” he smiled softly. He’d never heard that from anyone before. As a comfortable silence came over the two, Sen broke it. He’d never been able to stand them in the least. “So why did you help me out anyway? I half expected you to leave me on the floor.” To be honest he’d never thought she would at all. Then she said something he hadn’t expected.....
