"How Can I Say Anything"

Chapter 5

The sun was setting behind the subtle horizon as Oliver sat in the grass by the lake, eyes staring out far across the distance, passed the walls that surround, passed the whomping willow and passed the sea into the mist that helped shroud the school in safety from muggles

His mind, itself, seemed just as thick as the mist over that usually clear blue sea, he felt so lost, he had no idea how he would get Noa back, with words from the heart, she says? He sighed. Let them be in depth and emotional, she says? He was half the time never of that equal, all he had known for a long time in his life was Quidditch, he even acted a ditz around the ladies who fawned over him in chance of getting a glory at dating him.

He'd never really dated any of them, and he found out that in his 2nd year, the girls had only used him as a show, a trophy, a prize, a contest award. They would mock their friends right in front of him that she was being dated by the most popular guy in school, it was rather annoying and he got sick of it.

He blinked, that was it right there, he started being his airy self to avoid those kinds of girls, but deep within him he felt so alone, and that was the feeling in him, he'd never really known it before what with all the attention he got from his dad and mum, he had a wonderful family, but when Hogwarts entered his life, he experienced hands on what it was like to be lonely, and that was like a dagger tearing at you over and over.

Maybe that was why he had engrossed himself so thoroughly in the sport of Quidditch, yes, was that possibly it - no, it WAS it. He had been so lonely, he'd tooken the sport for a way to keep him busy so he could leave that stabbing feeling behind and it had worked, but when you get so good at something, you no longer think much of it and the feeling came right back in his fourth year, but then she came along, the angel, Noa Duben. She took that feeling away and just as he felt whole again, he was fiercely ripped apart by an incident that was never suppose to happen.

He sighed and balled his right hand into a tight fist and bopped the side of his head as in to say "don't you fail me tonight, you got it!" An he stood, it was time. He felt his insides squirmed nervously as he made his way to the Great Hall.

"You sure you don't want to stay overnight?" Carrie asked Nora for the third time.

"I'm sure, okay?" Noa said with a bit of irritation, if she asked again, she'd give her a good whap over the head.

They were currently on their way to the Great Hall, Noa really might've stayed if Madam Pomfrey wasn't so rude to every single visitor that tried to enter and when she had tried to tell off Carrie, Noa told her to wrench that stick out of her ass, and left down the stairs with Carrie. That lady really needed a good talking to.

Oliver entered the Great Hall, the loud rush of laughing and joyous voices enjoying their dinner which had already, but just, displayed in front of them.

Oliver swallowed and kept walking down the isle even if the whole hall had gone quiet except for gasping and accusing whispers. Oliver looked up from the ground, his eyes making contact with Dumbledore.

The great wizard puzzled him, as he approached he was thrown a wink and a kind - encouraging smile. Oliver smiled back, nodding, he must've known, he didn't know how he had known but that man knew some things you'd never expect, it was like he could read minds, but he was quiet certain it was just the fact of a facial expression.

He turned and faced the Great Hall when he reached the front steps, the teachers long table reaching side long behind him, he felt like he was in court or something, facing trial in front of the world, cause that's sure what it looked like to him, all those people seemed to duplicate into million, then billions.

He sighed shakily and cleared his throat. "I - I have something I would like to say, if you would please - all listen."

Everyone remained quiet, listening obediently to hear what he had to say for being so idiotic, there was only one outburst and it helped Oliver in no way, of course, coming from the Slytherins. "Dead man walkin'!!" The table broke out in an eruption of laughs then they died down, motioning he could talk now, all their looks reading "like it would help, though."

"A-alright, I have to say-" Where could he begin and wait a second. His eyes darted around, where was Noa?? He stopped dead on in front of him, seeing her standing at the entrance with her friend Carrie. A rush of something wavered through him and he continued, a new, stern, confidence in him.

Noa stood, speechless, watching and listening.

"I'd like to say - I'm sorry, to the one girl I hurt, but-" He needed to show his defense. "I tried to tell you all, she has no right to be mad at me."

Noa gasped, her brows furrowing.

Whispers went in a moment's torrent of outrage and silenced themselves once again.

"I swear to you all, as my oath as captain, and in oath in my heart, I was never close to Angelina Johnson, she'll even say so herself." He felt this was getting emotionless, he needed to calm himself.

Angelina stood. "It's true." She called out. "Oliver, was being a supportive captain and friend, and yes, I love him!" She glanced at Noa. "But he obviously dearly loves you." She smiled at Noa. "You are very lucky. You should listen and possibly go on to treat him right, for this is all a big misunderstanding." Then Angelina sat back down.

Oliver smiled warmly, then looked slowly to Noa, now was the time to spill out his heart. "Noa, I love you, and I'd never do anything to hurt you, this was one big accident, this was never meant to happen." Or was it? His mind blurted out. Possibly. "You're everything to me, I think I'm going crazy without you, you know? You're like everything dear to me, and if you can't see that, then I guess you don't love me as much as you say." And that was it, it wasn't the length of the speech that counted he learned, it was the depth and meaning and he had truly poured out so much feeling into every word, he dripped like a profusely bloody wound in front of everyone, but now, he picked himself up and walked from the Great Hall, passing her quietly.

Noa stood there speechless, whispers soaring around her like annoying vultures. ( Vultures - heh. Forgive that, I am not right in da head ::pokes his noggin:: )

Carrie stood beside her, she looked just as spell bound. Oliver truly mustn't have been lying if he had gone so far as that and he sounded so seriously sincere, there was no way it could be a con. She was ashamed of herself, but it had been an accident, Noa didn't know and a girl's heart was a fragile thing, you can drop it on accident and just like glass, it'll break apart like that. Into many little pieces, and takes time to put back together, and she guessed now would be a time of mending and apologies.

She grabbed Noa's arm and led her out of the Great Hall.

Everyone sat there quietly, then some people started to shrug and one boy started his previous conversation with his friends. "So about that thing called a go-cart?"

"Oh yeah." Said another boy and the Great Hall erupted with it's usual festivities, everyone enjoying the meal once more except, Harry, he was staring to the door, he watched as the new girl, named Alex, rushed out the Great Hall, possibly after Oliver, he had overheard their conversation to mend this mess while looking for "Quidditch through the ages." He shrugged after a while too, he was glad for Oliver, Noa should go back with him and for some reason, Harry had a keen eye for Noa's friend Carrie, he felt drawn to her, and knew not of the reason why.

Alex ran full speed down the halls, guessing Noa and Carrie had gone back to the Gryffindor Commons Room since she hadn't ran into them yet, she hurried up the steps, tripping once or twice but balancing quickly and going at it again, only decreasing her velocity until she reached the library.

She hurried in and passed Madam Pince's suspicious eye, to a table far in the back of the library, it was hard to spot anything amidst all the dark shadows.

Oliver sat there though, looking as if he was a house elf that had got done drinking 8 rounds of butter beer.

"Oliver! You were great!" She smiled and sat down in front of him.

"I was too forward." He moaned, putting his head in his hands.

Alex shook her head vigorously. "No way, if anything, she needed you to be forward with her, I know this was an accident, but she could have trusted you a bit more and gave you room to talk."

Oliver sighed and looked up at Alex, cracking a grin.

"What?"

"I don't know!" Oliver said loudly, laughing. "Everytime I look at you, it makes me laugh."

"Oh, that's insulting, thanks." She said with a raised brow, a frown tugging at her lips.

"No, it's just, you have that affect on me, it's not an insult, in any way, you should be complimented, I thought I'd never smile after that, and here you are, enabling me to laugh as well."

Alex was still a bit confused but if he didn't mean it as an insult, it was ok with her. "So, my mission is accomplished-"

"And now mine begins." Oliver interrupted her. "What do you want more than anything?"

"Oh please." She laughed. "I'd never tell you that I'm completely head over heels for Fred Weasley-"

"Gotcha!!" Oliver said, pointing at her with a mocking smile. Then he ran off in a child like manner. "You just wait, you and Fred'll be together soon."

"Oliver!" Alex cried. "Wait! I don't even know if he likes me!" And she rushed after him. "I don't even know if Noa loves you again, either!" Her voice said in a fade down the hall.

There was only a faint "yahoo!" and that was it.

* * * *

Noa sat in the commons room, Carrie sitting in front of her, her look pensive as she stared at Noa's bewildered face. "You can't ignore me forever, you should be happy. I don't think he's lying if he went through all that to get you ba-"

Noa held up her hand to silence her. "What if he's just desperate?" She asked, she couldn't believe it, but at the same time she could, it was like something was telling her to hate him, maybe it was jealousy, no! She would end her childishness and get up to face the world, she stood and sighed. "Let's find Oliver!"

"Alright!" Carrie jumped up, in a better mood than she had been.

They both ran from the commons room laughing and pushing each other.

* * * *

Oliver sat out on the Hogwarts ground, it was a nice sweltering afternoon and a lot of kids were dressed in some clothes teachers thought appalling, but Dumbledore told them due to the heat outside, they could wear what they want as long as they weren't running naked. He found that to be amusing.

Well, he was sitting in a white tank top to add and his pants were rolled up to the knees.

Alex accompanied him, sitting in a dark blue tank top and some jean shorts, she felt relaxed getting to wear her muggle clothes, wearing those uniforms all the time irritated her, so this was nice, plus, it was like if you ever showed a bit of leg skin, everyone freaked, well the teachers at least and next thing you know, you're being called a slut for exposing the knee down.

Oliver sat, looking like a farmer's boy, right elbow propped on one knee and munching on an apple. He smiled to Alex and sighed, his back leaning on the tree trunk.

Alex smiled back and took a drink from her water bottle.

"Why don't you tell him how you feel?" He blurted out, looking to her for a reaction.

She just patted the ground and picked at some grass. "I don't know, guess I'm afraid he'll say no, and if he did, I could never look at him again, it'd be too awkward."

Oliver nodded and looked out across the distance to the castle steps where two girls were standing at the steps staring at him, he was mid swallow when he coughed it all up, taking a deep breath and grabbing his throat.

Alex blinked and her eyes flickered to the stairs, then back to him. "Oliver you idiot! You don't inhale the apple you eat it, you know swallow!" She stood up and started beating him on the back. (Another apple incident, poor Oliver)

Oliver gave her a glaring look and stood up, running from her, still choking, coughing and sputtering, just wanting to get away from her abuse, beating him on the back wasn't bringing it out.

"Isn't that Oliver?" Carrie asked, looking with wide eyes as a boy ran into the middle of the grounds, a girl chasing after him, shouting.

"I think that is." Noa said with a dumbfounded look as Oliver made a dramatic collapse to the ground, rolling around like he was having a seizure. "What the hell is he doing?" She asked finally as the girl ran up next to him.

"Maybe she poisoned him cause he was such a pig?"

"I thought we talked about that?" Noa said with a raised brow. "Besides, he looks like he's choking more than dying from poison, see how he's clutching his throat like a hemorrhaging monkey?"

Carrie looked at her in alarm, a grin breaking out as Noa gave her a goofy look.

"Why are we standing here making fun of him, what if he's really choking?"

They both looked out to the two figures.

"Oliver! Erm! Uhh." Alex looked at him, rolling like a dog on the ground, face going a funny bluish purple. "Sorry!" She suddenly bust out and kicked him in the stomach.

::whew:: The apple piece went flying out of his mouth and he jumped up quickly, taking gasping breaths. "Why'd you kick me you nut?!" He shouted.

"Eep!" She squeaked out and ran as he charged after her like a mad bull. "I said I was sorryyy!" She whined, running for her life.

Noa watched the two ran in circles around the grounds, Alex shrieking and Oliver shouting in a mad rant. "Carrie, is it ok if I'm scared?"

Carrie nodded silently. "Let's go stop them before they kill each other - or he kills her." Carrie raised her brows and walked forward, down the steps out to them.

Noa flapped her hands at her sides and hurried after her with no other choice.
