Prolog: The deep fog

The hunt...Thrill…Pain…Pleasure. The Kid watched as the Teen Titans returned to the tower just when Slade had said they would now was his chance and he was not about to pass it up. Then he leaped down from the top of the tower right on to Cyborg knocking him out cold next in the path was BB doubling kicking him. Then came the real target Terra he threw two stars at her and dropped a smoke bomb and disappeared as quickly as he had come.

"Terra!!!" BB yelled as he realized what had happened.

"BB there's nothing more we can do we've called 911," Robin said.

"There has to be something more," BB said as sirens were heard in the distance.

"Cyborg is coming though," said Raven.

Cyborg asked, "What happened?"

"You were attacked he got Terra and whatever it was got away into the fog after a dropped a smoke bomb." Robin explained.

As the ambulance pulls in BB helps Terra in and rides with her.

"Foolish titans two members out of the way"

Chapter 1 They never see it coming or do they

"It was a rush he had to admit that but Slade still owed me," The Kid thought to himself. On his way back to Slade's hideout he realized he forgot to retrieve his ninja stars. "No matter they can't trace em."

"I was beginning to wonder if you were ever coming back," said Slade.

"I always collect my fee," The Kid replied.

*Slade points to the table*

"So is that them?" The Kid asked.

"Yes but I wouldn't open them you may not like what you see," replied Slade. "By the way did you get the Terra?"

The Kid replied, "See never saw it coming no one ever sees it coming."

"Well in that case you should do some more work for me," Slade said.

"Like what?" The Kid asked.

"Capture Robin." Slade said calmly.

"Done if you can make it worth my while," was The Kid's answer.

"Then it's a done deal," replied Slade.

Half an Hour later at Titan Tower

"I can't believe this there no trace, no evidence, and worse no suspects." Said Robin.

"He will resurface," Raven said without even looking up from her book.

"And next time he does I'll be ready," said Cyborg.

"I am going to see if our friend is alright," Starfire said as she flew off.

Not a minute after Starfire left a huge explosion happened down at the main entrance.

"Titans go!" Yelled Robin.

As the titans rushed down to the lower level The Kid slips in unnoticed trough the roof.

"Some thing doesn't seem right shouldn't there be bad guys," said Cyborg.

"Maybe it's just a warning." Said Robin. "Raven can use your powers to reform the door?"

"Sure," replied Raven. "Azartath, Metreon, Zinthos." Raven chanted as the doors reformed.

"Times up titans," The Kid thought to himself as the titans began to climb the stairs.

And as if Raven had heard that thought she said, "Someone is watching us." The Kid took this chance to hopefully get the drop on them. As he swings off the ceiling he split kicks Raven and Cyborg at the same time.

"Just you and me Robin," said The Kid.

"You sure about that?" Robin asked right before Starfire blasted him in the back.

"I thought you went to see Terra?" Robin asked.

"I was going to till I saw the explosion and then saw a figure slip in through the roof." Replied Starfire.

"I wonder what he has on him." Said Robin.

*Robin searches The Kid and puts his findings on the table.*

"Wow," said Robin. "Two Shivs, a handful of stars, a handful of smoke bombs, and a roll of hundred dollar bills."

"Also he left a backpack on the roof," said Starfire.

"We'll look at that later the others are coming through now." Said robin.

"So is he," said Starfire.

"Cyborg can u bend some weights around him?" asked Robin.

"Ya, sure give me a min.," replied Cyborg.

When The Kind finally came through he tried to move his arms only to notice they were tied up tight. He looked down to see his legs and arms were firmly wrapped in metal weights. He then realized his way out.

"You insult me titans," The Kid said. "I can get out of this in a snap."

"Ya right" said Cyborg. "I wrapped those so tight you don't have a inch."

*The Kid screams out in pain as he dislocates his shoulder.*

"Now I got that inch," The Kid said as he pulls himself out of the bindings and snaps his arm back in place. "I see you took the liberty of putting my equipment out to where I could pick and chose what to kill you with."

*Jumping of the floor rolling under the table where his stuff was he stood up and picked up the Shivs.*

"Now lets get busy," said The Kid.

Meanwhile at the hospital

"Is she gonna be ok?" Asked Beastboy.

"Yes she is very lucky the stars missed all major arteries it'll take about a week to fully recover," replied the nurse.

"Visiting hours end in ten minutes," a voice over a PA system said.

"Just try to kick me out see what happens," thought Beastboy.

Smash one of the windows in the tower smashes as Starfire goes through it.

"Azarath, Metreon, Zinthos," Raven said. Catching Starfire and setting her on the ground.

"Take this," Robin says as he throws two explosive disk.

"No problem," replies The Kid as he pulls up his shivs and cuts the disks in half.

*Cyborg opens up his sonic blaster arm*

"Die," The Kid says as he throws one of his shivs into the arm causing an explosion and knocking out Cyborg.

"Can't block this one," Robin says as he throws an ice disk.

"Watch me," The Kid says as he positions his remaining shiv but when the disk hit it froze the shiv and The Kids arm.

"Looks like you lost this round," Robin said.

"I've just started to fight," The Kid said as he smashed his iced covered arm right into Robin. "But it looks like your out cold."

"Azararth, Metreon, Zinthos," Raven said as the weights, which had held The Kid down, slammed into his back sending him out the broken window.

As Raven uses her powers to get the glass out of the room and attempt to fix a broken wall and table, Robin gets up and ask "where are others?"

"Cyborg is in the next room and is looking bad and still out cold and Starfire disappeared." Raven said. "I think BB and Terra are still at the hospital."

"What about that guy did you get him?" Robin asked now.

"Nope I found the weights and a lot of blood he couldn't of got far." Replied Raven. "And your not looking much better you might of broken a rib or two."

"Slade I could couldn't get Robin but I got her," The Kid said as he coughed up some blood.

"You don't look to good Cinderblock will get you to some help," said Slade. And those were the last words The Kid heard before he fainted.

Upon arriving at the tower Beastboy noticed that a battle had happened and he asked Robin what happened.

"It was a trap. He got Terra and you out of the tower and then attacked us when he saw Star leave, but Star heard the explosion and came back. And she saw… Wait a minute up on the roof the backpack should still be there." Said Robin as he tore of towards the roof.

"What was it?" Beastboy asked.

"It was this when he came he left this on the roof." Replied Robin.

"Well lets open it up and have a look now," said Beastboy.

"Lets," Robin said as he began to pull items out of the pack. "Plastic explosive, more money, another set of shivs, and a brown package.

"I wonder what's in the brown package." Beastboy said.

Chapter 2 the truth and plans revealed

"I can't believe this," Said Robin as he looked at the files.

Only a developing brain will accept the formula fully. The older the subject the less effect but still there is an effect.

Project terminated after Smith, John went AWOL in Taiwan.

"Robin look at this," said Beastboy. "It's John Smiths ID."

"Beastboy were fighting John Smith." Said Robin. "And he's a super-human."

"Anything else in his backpack?" asked Beastboy.

Robin replied, "Check the front pocket."

*Beastboy checks the front pocket and finds a communicator.*

"Robin I think this can lead us to Slade," said Beastboy.

Just as Beastboy said that the communicator rang and Robin answered.

"Ah Robin you defeated my assassin and went over his stuff naughty, naughty." Slade said in a mocking voice.

"What did you do with Starfire??!!" Asked Robin.

"O her she's just hanging around." Slade said while stepping off to the side revealing Starfire shackled to the wall in some yellow energy bindings. "If you ever want to see her again in a week meet me at the pier."

And then it shut off. "Did we get a trace?" Asked Beastboy.

"Ya he's in a warehouse in the south side of the city." Replied Robin.

"It could be a trap and none of our team is really ready to fight," said Beastboy.

"Then we'll call in some favors," said Robin.

"Hello Speedy it's Robin we got a problem can you help out?" Asked Robin

"Sure I'll be there." Replied Speedy.

And so it went on Robin ended up getting Speedy, Aqualad, Tram, Hotspot, and Wildebeest to help them in the quest to retrieve Starfire.

As John Smith woke up he began to wonder where he was Slade walked into the room.

"You did well," said Slade.

"Let me guess you showed the titans Starfire and let them trace you right into a trap where you intend to capture Robin and goast the others," said John.

"Yes how did you know?" Asked Slade.

"That was my plan too," replied John.

"Now you need your rest the titans are coming." Said Slade.

John slipped into sleep, but instead of a dreamless sleep he had nightmares.

"Get you ass over here kid and keep up with the rest of the slaves." Said a slave driver.

"I'm not your slave." Said John.

"I'ma gonna beat you good," replied the slave driver as he attempted to whip John.

*John catches the whip*

"Your dead," John said as he slit the slave drivers throat with his shiv as if he did it a thousand times.

John awoke to a crash. "The titans must have arrived." He thought to himself. As he tried to stand up he noticed an empty UV next to him, "Damn must of lost more blood then I thought." He rolls of the bed and walks to the door the arm he smashed into Robin in a splint. What he saw was a burning building and beams shooting out.

Just an hour before at titans tower

"Ok here's the deal Slade has Starfire and is holding her in warehouse 17 on the south side of town." Robin explained. "Hopefully he hasn't noticed we called for help so we can catch him off guard. BB, Cyborg, Raven, and I will go into the warehouse. When Slade sends his robots to fight us you go in and help up mop up. If that assassin is still able to fight then take him down a bring him to the tower. Got that? Ok let's go."

Warehouse 17

"Ah Robin, walking right into my trap I thought you were smarter then that." Said Slade as Robin and the other titans walked in. "Get them." Slade called to his robots.

"Now." Robin yelled as the rest of the titans charged in.

*Speedy fires a barrage of explosive arrows into groups of Slade's robots starting fires.*

*Slade's robots fire at the titans with their arm blasters*

*Cyborg fires his sonic blaster while robin pelts robots with explosive marbles. Raven takes the broken parts of the robots and flings them around.*

"I found her." Aqualad calls out as he smashes the shackle generator.

"Thank you." Starfire says.

Mean while just twenty feet away from this warehouse

"Holy shit if my legs didn't hurt so much I might be more then forty feet where I started from." John thought to himself as a robot flew out of the building and landing right in front of him.

Then something unthinkable happened another robot was thrown out and smashed right into him. Right before everything when dark he say Robin come out of the warehouse.

"Titans retreat we got what we wanted!!!" Robin yelled as he ran out of the warehouse. "No way it's the assassin." He thought to himself as he ran towards him. "It is him." Robin thought as he picked him up and carried him to the T-car.

"What are you doing?" Cyborg asked as he saw Robin putting the assassin in the T-car.

"We need to interrogate him." Robin replied. "So we're taking him to the tower."

"Ok but still why not take him on the R-cycle afraid he'll bleed on your leather, no wait you don't have any leather." Replied Cyborg.

"Shut up at a time like this you are think about leather." Yelled Robin.

"Ok man lets just get the hell out of here." Replied Cyborg as the group made its way back to titans tower.

Back at titans tower

"Thank you for helping everyone" Robin said to the titans.

"No problem, after you saved us from the game master it's the least we could do." Replied Speedy.

And as Robin looked around the room he saw that the feeling was mutual.

"Ah Robin what about that killer guy out in the T-car?" asked Cyborg

"Lets get him in the basement and tie him up good this time so he can't just do that trick and kick our ass this time." Robin replied.

John came through to a really bright and burning light. "Damn it, it must be that time of the year." He closed his eyes as tight as he could. And tried to move his arms to cover his face when he realized he was tied down tight against a flat surface. "Turn the damn lights off!" John yelled at the top of his lungs.

Raven said to him in a clam voice, "They are out."

John replied "Not the one under the door crack."

*Raven blocks it*

"Why does that matter so much?" Raven asked.

"If you can somehow manage to see them look at my eyes without turning on a light."

*Raven uses her demonic powers to see in dark as though it were day*

"No that can't be your eyes are, are." Raven stuttered at the thought.

Chapter 3 Eyes the gateway to ones soul

"All black." Said John. "I know. It happens about twice a year."

"So your pupils get so big the absorb to much light." Asked Raven.

"Exactly." Replied John.

"I've got to go tell the others." Said Raven.

Now John saw his chance all he had to do was cut the bindings. "With what?" he thought to himself. Then it hit him he was still wearing his shoes. Taking his shoes off by putting the heel against the surface. He then flipped it to where his hand was. Positioning the shoe to where he could get his hand on the bottom. "There one blade." He thought as he pulled out an obsidian blade and cut the rope. Then rolled of the table he saw now and got under it. "The good part about my eyes is it's bright in here. Only Raven can see in the dark." He thought just as the doors opened so he covered his eyes.

"So yes he can't be exposed to light." Raven was explaining as they opened the door. "Damn it. He got away."

"Well it's so damn dark in here that he could without anyone seeing him." Said Beastboy.

Well the titans were arguing John moved in the direction of the stairs very quietly. "Just three more steps." He thought. As he got into position, Raven stepped on the stairs above him the he grabbed her heel and pulled making her fall down the remaining stairs. "Hope that keeps her own long enough." He thought.

"Turn on a light." Robin said. When John heard that he made his eyes revert to normal. "Where is he?"

As the rest of the titans walked down the stairs he got ready. As soon as the last titan was out of the way John tore up the stairs and shut and locked the door. Speedy was just in the next room so John got ready to take him down then it all went dark again.

"Good thing we stuck around Speedy." Aqualad said as he opened the door/

"Ya that guy might have gotten away." Said Speedy.

"Robin you should have a guard on this guy at all times." Said Aqualad.

"Ya we'll do that. Replied Robin. "Raven can you tie him up with your powers or something like that."

"Maybe." Replied Raven. "He might find someway to escape. Also it has to be near a foci."

Ring, ring, ring… The titans phone rang. "Hello this is Beastboy." Answered Beastboy. "Oh he is I'll be right down." He said after a pause. "Everyone Terra is awake."

"So go down and see her." Said Cyborg

"So Raven, give it a try." Said Robin.

John woke up to a normal lighted room, with some freaky decorations. "Where the hell am I, a movie set." He said.

"You're in my room but don't get to comfortable. In a minute you'll be in the interrogation room." Replied Raven. Raven on her comm. unit said "he's up come get him."

"Something never sat with you did it." He said. "How someone so out of control could learn to be in so control so fast on her own." He said now trying to get an edge.

"Terra's with Slade." Raven responded.

"I'm not saying that." He said. "In fact I'm not saying anything at all"

"Ok lets get him down." Said Cyborg.

*Raven uses her powers to take him to an interrogation room.*

"First question… What is your name?" Asked Robin.

"I don't have one most people just call me kid." Replied John.

"Does the name John Smith sound familiar." Asked Robin.

"Nope." Replied John.

"Have you ever killed anybody." Asked Robin.

"Only people who deserved to die." Was John's response.

After hours of such questions to no prevail Robin begins to get sleepy and sent in Starfire to keep watch.

"I can see you have seen real hate." John said as she sat down across from him.

"What?" Starfire asked.

"What was it someone killed your father, burned your house, or maybe kidnapped you." He responded.

"You, you clorbag Star said as she throws a starbolt right at him. John pulls up the chains the now held him right into the starbolt's path.

"It was in your eyes," he said right before he knocked her out.

While this was going on the following conversation was happening up stairs between Robin and Raven.

"Something is up he is not breaking no matter how long he's in there he's only going to answer I don't know." Robin said.

"I could read his mind." Raven replied.

The conversation was interrupted by an explosion downstairs.

*Raven phased through the floors.*

"Stop!" Raven yells. John continues his charge and smashes into a black energy wall. Raven then uses her powers to once again tie him up.

"If there is a way out of this I'll find it." He said.

"I tried to be nice." Raven said. "It didn't have to go this way." As she touched his head and zap she was in his mind.

The thoughts and memories Raven saw were no an evil past. No memories before he was 13. And at the age of 13 he killed a slave driver. At 14 he killed the slave master to escape and 15 made it to America. 16 found the answers he wanted but thought he didn't need them he no longer was the person he was before he was 13 he is the kid now not anyone else. And she saw Slade and where his real base was.

"So Raven what did you see?" Asked Robin almost as soon as she left the trance.

"That we have our hands full with this one." She replied.

"What do you mean by that?" Robin pursued.

"He is a killer, a killer with nothing to lose and every thing to gain." She answered.

"And he's waking up." Robin said.

"Don't tie him up." Raven said.

"Why?"Asked Robin.

"Because I think we've been aproching this from the wrong angle." She replied.

John arose to a pounding head. He looked around to see all the members of the titans looking right at him. "So this is where you kill me?" He pondered.
