Fan Fiction ❯ Hybrid Genesis -God Legacy Saga- ❯ Lady Dorothy ( Chapter 7 )
Lady Dorothy
I made a `just in case' thingy and uploaded it. It's just in case FP.com decides to not let me upload things again. It basically says, "Oh look, FP.com is being a bitch again..." something like that, but much nicer ^_^ Good idea, right? Maybe...
Lookie, reviewers came back. I'm glad Itoshii is happy with her character, because I was sort of at a loss of how her personality should be. I ended up with mysterious. @_@ Oh well. Maybe I can find out how to play with Nieni some more. Craziness always seemed to suit me better in the personality department.
Not something to be proud of.
My muse Tiara, sort of died on me last chapter, so I was very displeased with the words that she chose for me. *shakes head sadly* I'd fix it if I weren't so lazy. About the weirdness. I'm wondering too if that will ever fix itself and go back to resembling something normal... We can only hope hudson-396, we can only hope.

Duo Maxwell: ... *beams* I am so happy right now. *floats after Chaos* So, what are we to expect today author? *chews on pizza*
Chaos: As soon as I find Relena...
Duo Maxwell: *spits out said pizza on author* NOOOOO!!! *flies away swiftly in Gundam*
Relena Peacecraft: *watches* ha. ha. Bastard.
Chaos: *wiping pizza from face* Exactly. But I REALLY don't like you, so go away. I have no idea what to expect this time, so let's let the muses get to work.
Relena Peacecraft: HEEEERR--- *stomp*
Duo Maxwell: *looks down from Gundam* Did I get `er?

Penelope had taken Seks on a little detour through the park to talk. Penelope sat sadly on a large rock, and started to explain. "A long time ago... I was a young girl. Only seventeen... I was hot-headed and ignorant. I volunteered to try out God Legacy, and left my dear Lionel behind... Oh I miss him so much..."
"And if I may ask... How old are you?" Seks asked softly.
Penelope smiled wryly, and looked away. "I'm an old lady now! Must at least by sixty. I didn't want to count the years after a while. Being stuck in this game, and constantly thinking about Lionel. Did he get married? Does he have children? Is he happy without me? Is he dead?"
"..."
"I finally used one of the magic spells that you can buy in here to look out into the real world. They're very expensive. I looked for Lionel, but... He's dead..." Tears fell from her eyes, and she wiped them away. "He died of loneliness. Oh god, I was such a fool. Such an impatient and brash fool!"
"But..."
Penelope looked at Seks and smiled weakly. "You remind me so much of him, so can't you just marry me and live with me happily? I can always pretend that you're him, and you can pretend that you're him..."
Seks frowned. "That isn't true love though. I'm not Lionel, and I can't be him!"
"You can!" Penelope insisted, jumping to her feet. "You just have to... Act..."
A pained look came over Seks face. "Would you be happy like that?"
"I-I could be..."
"I don't think you could Penelope. You loved Lionel, and he loved you. He died because he wanted to be with you, and even though you regret it now, I suppose it was destiny that made you do what you did. Don't blame yourself, and don't blame him... Or me. I know that you wouldn't be happy with me, and I wouldn't be happy with you. I love Croix... And he is my master. I cannot do something he does not wish me to do."
Penelope leaned her head against Seks' chest. "You're right... Even though I hate those goody-goody speeches and I hate it when I'm wrong... You're right. You're right..."
//Damn me for thinking that I could actually have a happily ever after...//
"So you know what to do?" the voice from the darkness asked.
"Of course." the young man scoffed. He had short spiky black hair and cold blue eyes that could rival Croix's in intensity. "The gun."
A disembodied hand appeared from the darkness, handing the man the gun. "Here. Be careful with it remember. It is especially made for this purpose alone, and you are the only one who can control it."
The man snorted. "Don't be ridiculous. Anyone could control this piece of junk."
A hiss of anger echoed around the man, but he didn't do as much as even flinch. "I am no longer confident on your abilities to complete this mission."
"Shut up. I can do anything and everything that is required, and you are fully aware of it. I'm only listening to you because you have something I want, so don't push it old man."
"How do you know if I am old or not?" the voice asked.
"I figure if you have this stick up your butt so far, it must have worked its way in over the years. I'd say at least seventy years for the stick---"
"Shut up." the voice said coldly.
"I am only---" the man started.
"I know Seiko..." the voice snarled, disappearing into nothing.
//It's only for the mission. Nothing else...//
Penelope started to glow. She looked down at her hands a moment, stepping away from Seks. "W-What... What is happening to me?!" She started to drift away from Seks, and she frantically grabbed onto him. He grabbed onto her, trying to keep her near him, but the force was strong, and he didn't have that good of a grip.
"Hold on Penelope...!" he shouted, trying to grab her again as his fingers let go.
"Goodbye... My Lionel..." she whispered, her eyes glazed over and a silly smile on her face. Her hands became made up of the numerals zero and one, then drifting away, a long stream of the two numbers fading away into the sky above. Her arms did the same, and then her chest, down to her waist and legs, up to her neck and head. The last thing to disappear was the very tips of her hair.
Seks stayed, looking up at the stream of numbers until he no longer could see them. A rustle from behind him, made him look away. He whirled around to come face-to-face with Dorothy. She looked slightly startled that he had caught her. Seks wouldn't say it, but Dorothy definitely had gotten too close to him without him noticing. He took a step back, just in case.
"Hello Dotty!" he greeted her.
"... I should have helped..." she whispered.
"What?"
"No, nothing...!" Dorothy said quickly. She moved closer to him. "Seks..." Dorothy started to say. She was cut off by a bullet ricocheting off the ground just centimeters from her right foot. She let out a little shriek and clutched Seks' arm. "What was that?!"
A man stepped out from a clump of trees and sighed. He leaned a hand on his hip and spit out his cigarette. " It's called a bullet." the man muttered.
"Who are you?" Dorothy asked, straightening as if to look more threatening.
The man scoffed at her and looked away boredly. "Who is that with you?"
"I asked first!" Dorothy argued.
"This is absurd."
Dorothy smiled sweetly. "Of course this is..." She grabbed Seks arm and pulled him close to her. "We'll just be going..."
The man grinned. "So sorry, see... I can't let ya do that. Ain't my idea to do this, but... I'm being paid enough money..." He twirled the gun in his fingers a few times before aiming it at Seks.
Dorothy jumped in front of Seks. "Don't you dare!"
The man stopped. "Lady Dorothy, you have to step aside!"
"Lady Dorothy?" Seks asked confused.
"How do you know my name?" Dorothy shot a cruel look at the man, and then one to Seks, that silently said `I'll explain later if we're still alive'. "It does not matter! I'm not going back!"
"Going back...?" Seks asked, apparently not getting Dorothy's hidden message.
//Oh can't you pretend...?//
"Something... Important?" Croix repeated. "What kind of something?"
"Just something. Wait for it." the man said with a smile.
Croix sighed. "So should I just sit here and whistle or something?"
"No." the man said. "Come with me..." He let out a hiss of displeasure. Croix was then dragged along behind the stranger and led through a maze of streets. Croix felt quite dizzy when finally the stranger stopped. "Here." Before Croix could ask anything, he was whisked away into a building.
Inside the building, it was dark and cold. It seemed like a constant icy breath was being blown down the neck of his shirt. Croix shivered in the darkness. The only light was at a shady looking desk, lit by a small lamp. The sickly glow spread only a few feet (if that) around, but the room was so small, that was all it needed. Still, shadows managed to crawl inside and make the room spooky.
The stranger seemed right at home here, and Croix started to wonder why he was even going with the man in the first place. He knew nothing about the guy, and really... This place wasn't the best place to be. Croix felt his body inching towards the door, but a strong arm around his shoulders guided him over to a row of chairs lined up against the wall. The pressure on his shoulders grew and Croix sat down reluctantly.
"I know you're not comfortable here." The man said. "Don't worry though, we're not going to be here for long."
Croix tried to reassure himself, because the mans' words did not help at all. He couldn't help but look around himself though. It seemed like hours passed. Occasionally a person would walk inside, look around a few times and then proceed to the desk. There would be hushed conversation and then the person would either leave or go up the stairs in the back. Croix wondered what was in the back, then decided he didn't want to know.
He was about to stand up and leave no matter how much longer it took to wait, but the man at the desk cleared his throat and the stranger Croix was with stood and talked to him. Croix felt most definitely out of place as the two spoke in quiet tones. After a few minutes, the masked stranger walked back to Croix, and led him from the building. An awkward silence fell over the two.
"Sorry about dragging you along to my errands."
"It's okay..." Croix said nervously.
"Well, this is Guardian Link... City, so where would you like to go first?"
"I... Don't know..." Croix fidgeted. "Am I supposed to go somewhere in particular?"
The stranger spread his arms wide. "Anywhere here is the perfect place to..."
//To begin... Again...//
Chance came to another city and almost fainted once he was sure he was actually inside the city limits. Monsters seemed to pop up from everywhere, and he had fought them all without a weapon. His body ached from exhaustion. He forced himself to keep walking. His vision seemed hazy after a few more steps, and he forced his mind to think. `Right foot. Left foot. Right foot...'
He made his way into a hospital. There was no fee, and for that he was grateful. He felt a hundred times better as he left the hospital. His mind snapped back to the matter at hand. Axis. He had to make sure Axis wasn't in the game. He looked around, and blinked after spotting someone he swore he recognized. After squinting his eyes and looking closer, he knew that he really recognized this person.
"Croix?!"
//No way!//
Croix looked around, swearing he heard his name being called. The stranger noticed, and put an arm around his shoulders, practically choking him as he dragged Croix away. Croix finally spotted a red-haired familiar person... Hybrid... "Chance?!" The stranger sighed as Croix pulled away to run to the hybrid.
Chance stared at Croix. "So I'm not imagining this... You're really here?"
Croix blinked a moment before a small smile appeared on his lips. "Yeah, I was going to ask you the same thing."
"How did you get here?"
Croix smirked. "Like I'd know. I don't give a fuck how, I just want to get out of here."
"Yeah... Me too... Hey do you know if Axis is in the game?"
"I have no idea who is in the game." Croix muttered. "So... How'd you get here?"
"Stixx... I think." Chance murmured.
"What?"
"Nothing, I don't know either." Chance corrected himself.
Croix opened his mouth to say something, but was cut off as a large explosion shook the ground beneath their feet. The next second, everyone around them started screaming and panicking. Chance and Croix were jostled violently as people shoved past them to get away. Chance folded his wings as close to his body as possible so they wouldn't be ripped off.
Croix felt two more explosions go off, the second one making his ears hurt. He let himself be carried away in the crowd, not knowing if he was able to do anything else. He felt an arm grab him and drag him from the crowd. The next thing he saw was a brilliant shower of sparks before his eyes and then everything disappeared.
//Something important's going to happen...//
Dorothy stood defiantly in front of Seks, ignoring his questions. The man was twirling his gun and looking quite bored. "Are you going to move? I don't like forcing someone, but Lady or not, you have to move."
"Why him?" Dorothy demanded. "What did he do?"
The man narrowed his eyes, seeming to glare right through Dorothy at Seks. "He kidnaps a very important person, and---"
"I was not kidnapped. I ran away in the first place. He just found me!"
"Not what I heard. `Swooped down and carried you away' was---"
"Oh shut up!" Dorothy growled, walking forward and slapping the man across the face. "Leave me alone, and tell whoever is commanding you, to FIND SOMEONE ELSE!"
"Lady---"
"I QUIT!"
//Now...//
Seks winced as he felt a tiny bite in his shoulder. Before he could move another inch, another bite came, but this one was a whole lot more painful. Seks was thrown through the air, large gashes appearing in his skin from a seemingly invisible source. He landed on the ground, covered in his own blood. Dorothy screamed and ran to him, falling to her knees beside him. She looked around frantically. The man she had slapped had a silly smile on his face and was staring somewhere behind her.
Dorothy turned her head to look. A man with spiky black hair stood behind her holding a small gun. Seks didn't even seem conscious. She brushed her hands over his neck, searching for a pulse. She was greatly relieved to find one, when she found something else. Something was in his shoulder. She stared harder, and saw that it was a bullet. A very... miniature bullet. It looked no bigger than a speck of dirt, but she knew for sure it was a bullet.
Seks let out a groan of pain, and her sharp eyes caught sight of a new wound in his arm. It was from a bullet. The first man with the gun shoved her out of the way, just as a blinding flash of light erupted from the other mans' small gun. It headed straight for Seks, blasting the man that had saved Dorothy to pieces, and finally engulfed the hybrid. Dorothy screamed again.
//Incredible, it's so bright...//
Croix winced at the light, trying to roll over so he didn't have to stare right at it. He heard a methodic beeping and a strange muffled voice on a speaker. He heard a soft dripping... He recognized these sounds, and hated them with a passion. He sat straight up, ignoring the dizziness that washed over him. He found something that resembled an IV in his arm and ripped it out. It was strange being inside a hospital again. He noticed that he still wore his own clothes. They were torn and faded.
He also noticed that the hospital room was really... Cold. He walked to the door and exited the room. He wandered down the hallway, and came to a set of stairs and across from those two elevators. He took the stairs, figuring he could handle it. As soon as he reached the bottom of the stairs, he found himself facing an identical hallway to his own and another set of stairs. He sighed, and took the stairs. Eventually he'd end up somewhere, right?
He finally came to a lobby. He wondered if he should just leave. He headed for the doors and saw a security guard walking to him. The man stopped him. "What's your name son?" he asked.
"C-Croix..." Croix said nervously. Had he done something wrong? The man walked him to the desk of a secretary who looked very busy on the phone. He stared at her a moment, and the security guard stayed by his side. He figured he was supposed to talk to the woman... "Um... Hello? Excuse me miss?"
She looked up at him and smiled a dazzlingly bright smile. "Yes? Are you ready to leave?"
"Yes, I suppose..."
"Then your fee is five hundred coins."
"... What?"
The security guard looked a little hassled as he stood next to Croix, and the wide smile on the secretary disappeared. "You do have money, don't you?"
"I... I don't know... I don't even know how I got here." Croix reached into his pocket and pulled out a bunch of strange looking gold coins.
The woman smiled again. "Oh, you have money. Here." She took five of the large gold coins and put them away somewhere. Croix had no idea where. "Have a nice day!"
Croix wanted to say something mean, but stopped himself. He made his way to the door and was slightly relieved that the security guard didn't come over and stop him again. He left the hospital, hoping he never had to go through that again.
//So, Chance is here... I wonder what that means?//
