Beginning

Axis watched in wonder as Chance seemed to twitch crazily. Madi looked a little afraid, but pressed a switch, electricity shooting into the hybrid boy. Chance's body convulsed a few times, quite grotesquely. Madi laughed brokenly, his body feeling weak all of a sudden. Chance pulled at the metal claws, snapping them apart. He dropped from the ceiling, landing in a crouching position. His broken arm seemed to mend itself, and Madi screamed in terror.

Chance dashed forward, his claws digging deep into Madi's neck. He felt the insane pleasure of flesh under his fingers, hearing the gargled choking and the frantic wiggling. It made him want to squeeze harder, and he did. He felt like laughing at the panic shone in Madi's eyes. It felt so wonderful to see the human he had had to listen to, scared to death of him. He dropped Madi to the ground. The man was only unconscious and quite bloodied. He'd live.

That woman however...

Chance ran towards the two. The woman cowered slightly before him. He snarled, feeling heat build behind his eyes. He didn't notice, but Axis did. Red electrical sparks flashed around his body as he felt anger that had no boundaries. He felt so infuriated, this feeling beyond all the others he had felt before. His eyes flashed red and with lightning speed, he reached out and strangled the woman until she no longer moved.

He was breathing hard as he came down from his killing high. He blinked in surprise, his eyes returning to their hazel green. He looked over to Axis, and immediately untied his master. He then kneeled, waiting for further instructions. Today he hadn't failed, and he hadn't died either. Yes, he couldn't give up. He closed his eyes in despair as Axis walked past him without a word.

Axis exited the room and made his way down the hall in some kind of daze. He vaguely saw the shocked faces, and felt a robe being slipped around his shoulders. He nodded in thanks and continued away, wandering until he reached his room. He closed the door behind him and sat down on the bed.

"That was brilliant... Magnificent... It's pure raw power, plain and simple. I must have it. Chance... You were quite a chance. To live or not to live, the first ever that we actually succeeded in building..."

Axis had been a kid from the streets, growing up to live quite harshly. He had then found an old building that had passages that led underground. It was a lab that had long been abandoned and forgotten about. After finding Madi and a few other recruits, they had begun rebuilding a few of the sections, closing off the unstable ones, and finding out more about each other.

Madi had been an excellent scientist, and so was Axis. Both of them had used their knowledge to create a project. A project to duplicate the hybrids that only people with a lot of money could afford. It had taken years and years, countless failures that dampened their spirits. Two street kids, working on something completely impossible.

Then, Madi had met the girl, and he had stopped coming more often. The organization grew and grew to thousands of people. Axis had made quite a name for himself with the goal he had set to accomplish all those years ago. Finally, they had come to a new product, testing it for the first time.

With the new hybrid who would now hopefully be created, the thousands of people who had joined the organization, deeply hidden under the ground, Chance had been born. Everyone had waited for about three weeks for the hybrid to be born. Then, Chance had emerged, alive and well. Everyone was overjoyed, but still nervous. Would he pass the three-day curse?

Three days had passed and Chance had awoken, still alive and healthy. That was when everyone welcomed him wholeheartedly into the group. Chance was the living creation of a bunch of brats that had once lived on the streets. Axis smiled to himself. What a strange dream he had had all those years ago. Now it was true and he was living it. But Madi...

"Why...?" Axis whispered to himself. "Just for that girl?"

Axis grumbled to himself. He had never understood girls or romance. It wasn't important to him. Being a scientist... well, self-proclaimed scientist and researching new things and experimenting. That was all he thought about. Those were the important things. He couldn't stop to become involved with someone. If he ever needed relief, he'd give it to himself when he needed it. He didn't need a girl to go to the bathroom and jack off.

He wiped bangs from his face as he laid down. Of course, lately it had been harder to control. It was approaching spring, and the air was fresher and the leaves were appearing once again. The long, cold and dismal winter had disappeared and it was the season for love and romance. A whole bunch of idiocy. He didn't need a woman in his life. He was perfectly fine the way he was.

He heard a shifting from outside his door and knew Chance was there, waiting for his instructions. The hybrid would wait for him until morning. Axis got up and went to the bathroom to get ready for bed. Tomorrow he would have to think of something to do with Madi.

Madi opened his eyes, recognizing the coldness of the room. He saw the bars on the window and door, and knew he was a prisoner. He huddled in a corner. That stupid hybrid, killing his beloved... His beautiful, perfect, wonderful, beloved. Madi closed his eyes tightly, trying to stop the tears from coming. His wonderful woman was now dead, and it was all that hybrid's fault!

He pounded the bed he was sitting on as hard as he could. He punched it over and over, imagining it was Chance that he was so brutally beating. When he got his hands on that idiotic beast, he'd kill him! He'd kill him so painfully, so horribly, that the screams would echo forever in the world of the dead.

He stood up from the bed, and walked to the window, figuring out if he could get out or not. It was pretty well made. Too bad he came prepared as always. He slipped on a glove and touched the bars. The bars melted from the extreme heat that came from Madi's glove. He threw the glove carelessly aside and hoisted himself up, wiggling and squirming until he got out.

He looked around from where he was. He headed right, racing up a flight of stairs. He heard voices, and fingered his neck. He slipped a hand up behind his ear and pulled a little blinking device out. He placed it along the wall and headed back the other way. A moment later, a huge explosion rang through his ears, and he laughed.

The idiots would all die for not protecting his beloved. He disappeared into the darkness, heading up the stairs to the surface. He knocked out the single guard who was protecting an area no one would dare go. It was one of the unstable tunnels, but he knew it quite well. Everyone would die by his hands. He would almost hate killing Axis... almost.

Chance was alert immediately at the sound of explosions. A moment later, Axis ran out the door. "Orders, sir?" Chance called after him.

"Protect everyone, and come investigate!" Axis yelled, his mind still fuddled from sleep.

"Everyone?" Chance repeated to himself in awe. "Yes, sir."

The explosion was pretty nasty, debris completely blocking the tunnel. Further beyond, was an entrance to the labs. Axis frowned, and leaned down against the floor. He touched the jagged edge of a piece of metal, and frowned deeper. What the hell had happened?

"Sir, Madi has escaped!" came the voice of one of his trusted friends.

Axis groaned, dropping to the floor. "So he did this. I should have known. Well, we can't use this passage anymore, block it off. We'll have to create more ways to the labs. We still have a few, but they aren't as reliable as this one."

"Yes sir."

"We've searched most of the tunnels, but there are thousands that we can't search..."

"Yes, the safety of our people is important, it's too bad. Madi has escaped, don't pursue him further. He will return." Axis said.

"Sir?"

Axis turned to look at Chance. He couldn't see Chance, but knew he was there somehow. "He will return."

Axis walked along the hard ground, hearing footsteps behind him. He knew it was Chance, but he didn't turn to order the hybrid away. He didn't mind for once. It was nice being alone, but tonight he wanted company. He often went for strolls under the moonlight. Tonight was no exception. Despite a constant fear that Madi would for some strange reason, pop out of nowhere and try to kill him, he still walked on.

The slight breeze pressed his golden hair to the back of his neck and he briefly wondered if he needed to cut it again. Pale blue eyes looked to the sky, their color glowing mystically in the moonlight. He stared at the moon. It was shaped like a crescent. He spared a glance at the creature behind him. He paused from where he was standing, waiting for Chance to catch up.

When Chance had come close to him, he walked forward, ordering the towering hybrid to kneel. Chance did as he was told, wondering what was going to happen. Axis slowly traced a finger lightly over the dark crescent shape on Chance's shoulder. He then gently caressed the other stripes, repeating the process on the other shoulder.

Chance shivered slightly, not from the breeze though. He was wondering what Axis was doing. Axis seemed to be in a trance as he touched the pale smooth skin. He wondered what he was doing himself. His fingers slowly moved on their own to run through the short dark red hair, fingering the black stripes that zigzagged over the two strands that hung down in front of his shoulders.

Chance closed his eyes with wonder, not understanding the feelings he was having. He was a warrior type, not a pleasure type. He knew nothing about the feelings he was experiencing. Axis felt a strange sense of loss as the dark green eyes closed. He silently implored for Chance to open his eyes again so he could see the magnificent green that was speckled with gold.

Axis' fingers traveled up to massage the long curved ears, smiling slightly as Chance purred and leaned to his touch. The long demonic tail flicked back and forth and up and down, the barbed end occasionally sprinkling dust into the air. The angel wings of bone were held taut in pleasure, though he understood nothing of why they did. He fingered the green tufts of hair that ruffled in the breeze. They twitched slightly and Chance made a sound of discomfort. Axis pulled his hand away and turned, walking away.

"Master?" Chance asked, forgetting to call Axis `sir'.

"Let's go back." Axis said softly. "Home." he said, a little stronger this time.

"Yes, sir." Chance said, standing to follow Axis.

Madi made his way through the long winding passageways, his mind racing to remember which way to go as he came to the forks. He made a last right and smiled as he saw a shining tube. He went to an old computer and started it up. He paced impatiently as the computer booted up. He logged on and flicked a couple of buttons.

Dim lights filled the room, making it glow. He hit a few more buttons and the tube drained of water. Madi smiled, pleased with himself. Inside the tube was a human, rather it was a hybrid. He had created a hybrid before Axis had, hiding it way under the labs. He had deliberately led Axis off course whenever they came too near the formula. Somehow, there had been another formula to create hybrids, and Axis had found it out.

Madi smirked. Too bad he had created his first. He had bathed the creature in potions to enhance every muscle and system. The creature's power was incredible, the response time supreme, and the form a perfection. There was no other creature that could possibly defeat his own.

He had created the perfect super weapon. He had planned to use it for him and Rosalyn his lover, but now that she was dead... He clenched his teeth, his hands tight in fists. He was going to use it to destroy everyone. Everyone in the world would die for Rosalyn. Rosalyn was so much more important than the world anyway.

He had to avenge her! He had to!
