* Chapter One *
“Beast Boy, look out!”
Robin chucked another exploding gadget at the hideous creature the Teen Titans were currently fighting. The thing was at least ten feet tall, with about fifty eyes and huge muscular arms and legs. Most of its skin was green and slimy, save for the furry pink pinchers it had for hands. Everywhere it went it left a disgusting trail of slime that glued you to the spot if you happened to step in it. Of course, Beast Boy and Cyborg had been the ones unlucky enough to tread in the sticky residue.
The creature let out a weird gurgling noise as the device exploded into its side. Yellow, foul smelling blood seeped form the wound.
“Man, this thing has it all!” Robin yelled as the monster bounded towards him, spewing green ooze from its mouth. The Boy Wonder quickly rolled to the side, hurling another device at the creature's legs. This gadget attached itself and froze the thing to the ground.
“Yes!” Robin whispered, looking very pleased with himself.
“No,” said Raven as the ice began to crack. The creature yanked its legs free, just as she sent large pieces of a destroyed building at its head. The monster whirled around and knocked the hunks of building straight back at the dark haired girl. She stopped them just in time, but couldn't avoid the green ooze that plastered her to the building behind her. Raven wrinkled her nose saying, “This is disgusting.”
The creature then bounded toward Starfire, who was busy trying to unstuck Cyborg and Beast Boy.
“Star, behind you!” Cyborg yelled. The Tamaranian spun around, only to receive a face full of green gunk.
“Ugh, gross” said Robin. He was now the only Titan not stuck to something, or, so he thought. The Boy Wonder tried to jump, but nothing happened. He looked down.
“Oh man….” He had stepped in the sticky residue the creature had left behind. They were all stuck.
The monster turned toward Robin, snapping its pinchers menacingly. Robin reached down to his utility belt, only to find that he had used up all his gadgets. The teen desperately tried to free himself, almost falling over in the process. What were they going to do?
Fear began growing in Robin as the creature slowly advanced toward him. He could see Beast Boy flicking from form to form, and Cyborg blasting the stuff, but to no avail. Starfire and Raven weren't going anywhere either. Robin tried once more to free himself, and this time succeeded in falling foreword, getting his hands stuck as well. Now what?
His question was soon answered as someone ran up behind him, leaping clean over him while throwing—what were they, crystal shards?—into the eyes of the hideous beast. The thing gurgled again and stumbled backwards, its furry pinchers covering its face.
The newcomer—which Robin quickly realized was a she—leapt over the staggering monster and touched its slimy shoulder. Instantly, ice began to form and grow, covering the thing's entire arm. Robin realized the crystal shards had actually been ice.
It soon became apparent to the girl that ice had no affect on the creature, as it broke away the ice with a flex of its furry pink claw. So, she leapt up and embedded her arm up to her shoulder into the back of the creatures head.
The monster gave one last feeble gurgle and fell with a loud crash, breaking into several pieces. Robin saw that the girl had frozen the thing from the inside out. Cool.
The icy newcomer stood there for a moment staring at the dilapidated monster. Then she gave a great sigh and started toward Robin. Now, he finally had a good look at her.
She had white blond hair that fell a few inches below her shoulders and shimmered in the night lights of the city. She was small and slim and walked with the grace of a dancer. Her clothing consisted of white pants, a sky blue shirt, and simple white tennis shoes. The pants hugged her hips suggestively then flared out just below the knee. The sleeves of her shirt covered her delicate hands, with rips in the side for her thumbs. What captivated Robin most, though, were her eyes. They were cold and ice blue. He could have been lost forever in their icy depths. They warmed a little, thought, as smiled. Robin, realizing how ridiculous he must look, fought back the blush threatening to rise in his cheeks.
She stopped in front of him and crossed her arms, looking down at him. She seemed completely oblivious to the fact that her right arm was covered in the creature's nauseating blood.
She stuck her foot out and touched the stick residue holding Robin prisoner. It froze instantly and cracked away easily as the Boy Wonder wrenched his arms and legs free. He stood up, straightening his shirt, never breaking his gaze from the girl's captivating eyes.
“Thanks” he said stupidly. She was even more beautiful up close. He then added quickly, “I'm…uh…”
“Robin” she finished for him. Her voice was calm and soothing, smooth as silk. “I trust you can free your friends?” Robin could only nod. She smiled again. He nearly melted. Did he say beautiful? He meant angelic. She then turned and flitted off, leaping onto a building and off into the night. Robin watched her until she disappeared, then turned to help his struggling companions.
To be continued….
