Fan Fiction ❯ Identity Thief ❯ A Discovery ( Chapter 1 )
Identity Thief by: Sakura
A/N All right guys, this is my first attempt at a Legacy of Kain (or any other video game) fic, so be nice to me. This takes places before the end of the Defiance game, making it an AU fic.

I tried to remember what had happened last night in the city of Nosgoth, but my mind felt hazy and I was sick. I did remember, though, strolling the outskirts of the city searching for more clues to help me better understand the Reaver. I also recalled passing out due to lack of thirst- I had been so caught up in what I was doing that I had forgotten to feed.
My mouth was terribly dry, and I would have to feed soon if I wanted to live long enough to see my first born lieutenant, Raziel, become imprisoned in the physical Reaver.
I was in the cemetery now, and seeing how there were always some here, I figured I'd be able to find a hunter or two. I made my way through a circle of tombs and found myself three vampire hunters talking around a small fire. Quietly, I reached for the Reaver on my back and swiftly slit the throats of two of my enemies; the third was a coward and ran for his life.
I reached for one of the corpses and brought her neck closer to my mouth; in just a moment I would sink my fangs into her flesh and have the wonderful taste of fresh blood pouring down my throat.
Her skin was tough, for I had a difficult time piercing through it. I tore my head away from my prey's and was appalled to see that I had left no holes upon her neck. I tried again: maybe I had not found the soft spot.
Again, the only marks that had been left were the flat teeth marks from my farther ones. Placing my finger into my mouth, I felt for the third tooth on top, from the middle- it should have felt sharp, but to my dismay, it was flat, just like the rest of my molars.
My claws too, I noticed, had been filed down as far as humanly possible.
I had no time to worry over this now, if I didn't drink soon, I would surely die. I grabbed the Reaver, making a deeper gash on the huntress's neck. I pulled her closer to me and began to suck up the woman's blood. I drank it, as though one would drink through a straw, quick and without thought. It was swallowed in one gulp.
The taste was revolting. I knew I had not fed in nearly a day and a half, but my taste for blood could not have dissipated. I soon felt hot liquid, with that same sickening taste, rise back up my esophagus; it then released itself through my mouth. I hadn't known it to be possible, but I had just regurgitated a human's blood. The sole source of food my body would allow was now being rejected by my innards.
Lost fangs, claws filed down to nothing but stubs, and now lack of taste for blood. Only one question arose into my head, and it was one I would need answered as quickly as possible.
Had I been transformed back into a human, the one thing I despised most of all?
I had not been a human for some years, and I would have to re-teach myself their customs if I was to stay alive long enough to get myself back to the way I wished to be.
Raziel's destiny would have to wait just a while longer, but he should be grateful of it. I, Kain, ruler of Nosgoth, will give him that...

A/N That was the prologue, and the crappy one at that. I had planned out this whole fic, but when I started typing it, my mind went blank. Umm... stay tuned for the next chapter, where Raziel will learn of Kain's tragic fall.
