Chapter 13

I stared at the glowing red gem in front of me, completely awestruck.

Terran’s voice was rather soft as well…

“It is indeed, Princess… Here… I have something for you…”

Terran tossed his magnificent head and a gold heart-shaped pendant fastened itself on a gold chain around my neck. The Fire Gem set itself in its proper position. The pendant itself was like a cage, with a section for each Elemental Gem and the Diamond Star. The chain looked like what would be produced if Terran’s tears were to be caught, stretched into long threads and braided together – a chain of liquid gold. It all looked heavy, but even with the weight of the Fire Gem, I could barely feel it.

Terran bowed his head and spoke in a low, almost husky voice.

“You look beautiful, Princess… That pendant was meant to be worn by no one but you. Literally. Should anyone else try to make that pendant work its magic for them, it would weigh them down like a rock. But if the pieces are taken from the pendant and put together again, the Planet Heart can be wielded by anyone… or anything…”

“I understand that this is an object of great power,” I began uncertainly. “But how can I wield it alone? I need someone by my side…”

Terran’s voice was smoky with desire.

“Princess…”

Deep brown eyes bored into mine.

It really frightened me, the way he made me feel. I decided to play it off again.

“Oh! I just had another dizzy spell,” I giggled nervously.

I flicked my ears absently and clattered out of the cave on hooves that were suddenly very unwieldy.

It can’t be possible, I thought. He’s… I don’t know… I just CAN’T love him!

I was so scared of these new feelings. It felt like I was going out of my mind. I did the only thing a girl like me, an innocent, could think to do: I ran.

Every time I look at him… Every time I THINK of him… Was he right from the start? Could I possibly be falling in love?

If this was what love felt like, it certainly was frightening…
