Westbridge High campus buzzed with chatter. Students arriving for yet another day of school. The students were huddled and divided into groups. That was the way things were here, it was the way things were pretty much everywhere else too. Jonathan, Daniel and Natalie were waiting in the school parking lot for their friends.
The clear, blue sky promised a day of sunny weather.
'Dan, where the Hell were you last night?' asked Jonathan, turning his dark green head of hair on his blonde friend. 'You know me, just...stuff,' came the amused reply.
'Dan, do you ever talk about anything else besides sex?' murmured the black haired girl, rolling her eyes in the process. 'Of course, come on. I'm not just some idiot, you know.'
'Really?' she gasped, faking surprise. Her tone turned mirthless as she continued, 'Because you sure fooled me.'
'What's up with you? Why're you so cranky?' he raised an eyebrow in question. 'Nothing, just tired. I didn't get much sleep last night.'
'That dog!' exclaimed Daniel, grinning wolfishly.
'No! Not because of Alex, you pervert! I just couldn't fall asleep,' she sighed, shaking her head in disbelief at his bluntness. Dan was one to speak whatever was on his mind, whether it was offensive or just plain mean didn't affect him. 'Didn't you do the dirty deed already?' he questioned, curiosity evident in his voice.
'Yeah, so?' she said briskly, losing her patience. She snapped her head and stared up at him in a threatening way. 'If you start chuckling, I will kick your ass, understand?' Although, her bright green eyes sparkled dangerously, her blush gave away her embarrassment.
'Come on, you two. Break it up. Nati, I think being with Alex finally got to you,' countered Jon, who previously stood, watching the conversation heat up between two of his best friends.
'Ooh,' moaned Daniel, holding his head. 'That's the last time I drink so much.'
'Danny, Danny!' came a squeal. The trio turned their attention in the direction of the voice.
'Ronnie, where the Hell were you last night? I looked all over you,' questioned Daniel, his gaze traveling over the girl. 'Oh, man. Danny, I told you I couldn't go out. I had way too much homework to do,' explained the girl. She caught Dan looking at her and smiled, 'You like it?'
'Well, the short skirt and tube top definitely look good on ye,' smirked Daniel. Bronwyn was always one to dress in revealing and trashy clothes. It was her nature. 'Just because I dress like this doesn't mean I jump every guy I see,' she would always say whenever someone made a comment about her clothes.
'Yeah, well. I love dressing like this. Besides, I got a body to show off.'
'Amen to that.' Smiling, Daniel and Bronwyn made their way to the entrance of Westbridge High. The building was surrounded with teenagers resting under the leafless trees gently swaying in the winter wind.
'How in Hell did we ever become friends with those two?' asked Jonathan incredulously.
Natalie looked at him and smiled. 'Well, if you think about it. Everybody in our group is different from each other. I mean, it's weird how we're friends in the first place, you know?' Natali's gaze deemed far away and her expression was distant.
'Natalie!' The deep and baritone voice startled her from her reverie. She turned her head and smiled as two strong arms wrapped themselves around her waist, a pair of full lips leaning in to take hers.
'Hey, Alex,' she whispered, as a head of brown hair rested upon hers. 'Hey yourself,' came the playful reply.
The relationship between Alex and Natalie started with a friendship, which later turned into something more as the two found an undeniable attraction towards the other. After some meddling from their friends, they got together.
'Well, I'm going to head off, you two. The bell's going to ring anytime now, and I don't want to give Jonelle any reason to sit my ass in detention.' With that, he, too, disappeared inside the tall building.
Ms Jonelle was the English Literature teacher, who took an absolute disliking towards their group from the freshman year. This continued for four years now, as Alex, Jon, Dan and Bronwyn got ready to graduate. Natalie, being a year younger, still had one more year to go.
'Come on, Natalie. Let's go.' Alex steered her towards the entrance, pulling her alongside of him.
Upon entering the school building, the couple made their way toward their lockers. Natalie withdrew her books and slammed the compartment door shut, her hair swaying as a result of such force. Walking to her classroom was not easy as the students brushed passed her in haste, not wanting to be late to their first lesson of the day.
Stepping inside the classroom, Natalie went to the very back and sat down at the unoccupied desk.
Westbridge High School was founded by John K. Westbridge, after whom the school was named after. Now, his grandson was the principal and legal owner of the property. And with him being a rich and famous person, Westbridge High School was well supplied with all equipment, such as musical instruments, a football field, a basketball court and a full-sized auditorium. But even with all the expensive features the school acquired, Principal Westbridge was highly disliked by most students, being the bitter, horrid snake that he was.
The lesson began as Mr. Dayton, the History professor, entered the room. He was a man in his early thirties, and was by far, the nicest teacher at Westbridge. Although strict, Mr. Dayton had an easy and warm attitude about him, and gave out as little work in his classes as was allowed.
'Okay. All right, everyone here? Good. Now, before we start, I want everyone to take out their homework.' Leaning on his cluttered desk at the front of the room, Mr. Dayton waited patiently as the students rummaged through their folders in search of the assignment.
As the shuffling ceased, he presumed speaking. 'Everyone done it?' A nod of heads indicated a yes. 'Put the papers in the corner of your desk, and Charlie will collect them.'
Natalie held out the stack of papers as a Charlie -- a tall, skinny boy-- passed her.
'Today we'll talk about the Revolutionary War,' said Mr. Dayton as he hopped off his desk and trotted to the blackboard. The PA buzzed as a voice sounded on the other end.
'Mr. Dayton?' It was the secretary, Mrs. Frogger. Being a polite and courteous woman, she got on well with everybody.
'Yes?'
'Is Natalie Cloke there?'
'Yes, she is. Is something wrong?'
'No, no. Nothing like that. But could you please send her to the office?'
'All right, no problem.'
The PA buzzed again and tuned off. Mr. Dayton turned to the black-haired girl and motioned to the door, 'Natalie?'
The fierce whispering of students was the last sound Natalie heard as she closed the door behind her. She walked down the hallway, wondering why she was to go to the office. She couldn't recall doing anything that might've provoked this. Being an honor student, she wasn't the one who caused the rukus around this school. That job was already taken by her friends.
Passing the water fountain, she eyed the line of teenagers standing behind the metal spout. They stared back at her. As the two green couched came into the viewing range, Natalie knew she came to her destination.
She was greeted by the sight of the tall and slim form of Mrs. Frogger and a petite, blonde girl.
'Natalie. Good, you're here. I want you to meet Lorelai Crane.'
Her electrifying green eyes met the blonde's lavender ones. Extending her hand, Natalie gave one of her smiles, revealing a set of white teeth. Out of the corner of her eye, Natalie could see Mrs. Frogger beaming at the friendly greeting.
'Hey, I'm Natalie,' Lorelai makes a gesture to shake Natalie's shake, allowing a small smile.
Turning her head to Mrs. Frogger, Natalie questioned why she was called down to the office.
'Well, being an honor student, it's fitting that you show Lorelai around our school.'
Eyeing the blonde, Natalie stilled in realization. 'You're new?'
'Yeah, I am.'
She stared at her reflection in one of the glass trophy cases, looking at the basketball trophy. A token of victory decended upon their school for the fourth time in a row ever since Luke Carter became a part of the team. The football team, while possesing potential, didn't have enough leadership between them to acquire a trophy for their school. But Jason Narit, the football captain, blamed his teammates; saying they weren't good enough to play and there was nothing even he could do.
She returned her attantion back to the blonde. 'Well come on.'
For the next fifty minutes Natalie journeyed around the school, showing Lorelai where different rooms were found. For Natalie, if felt somewhat strange walking about the school with practically no one around. Were it Ro or Dan in her place, she was sure they would take this time to vandalize another part of the school property. For some reason unknown, the rules didn't apply to them.
'This is the gym,' she pointed to the double doors.
'Oh. So do you have any teams?' asked the blonde, her lavender eyes focused on Natalie.
'So, we do. The football team and the basketball team. That's all.'
'Cool,' the blonde smiled lazily.
'Yeah,' answered Natalie, shrugging. 'So what grade are you in?' she asked. Lorelai looked not over 5'5 and couldn't probably passed off as a junior. But just barely.
'Actually I'm a sophomore.' Lorelai's gazed traveled over the surrounding features as she took in the colors and shapes.
With Ivy and herself just moving from BC two days ago, Lorelai had no time to look around the city which was full of amazing exhibits and places that Lorelai knew she would love. All of her free time was spend decorating the estate with Ivy. She was surprised when Ivy announced she wanted to do the decorating task with her, but did not say anything.
Although all through life she was living the high life, Lorelai had no problem with doing things herself and not having a maid or a servant do it for her.
Back in BC, they lived in a three-story house that would not be considered a mansion, but Lorelai loved it. It had a homey feel about it that a bigger house did not. And not being one to judge an item by it's price, Lorelai did not let a single complaint escape her lips.
Her thoughts were intruded by the persistent ring of the bell, snapping her from the mental musings. Not two seconds after the bell echoed through the walls, students began filling the hallways, their chattering rising with intensity.
'Well, thanks!' yelled Lorelai, trying to be heard over the buzz of student body.
She received a genuine smile in return and a shout. 'No problem.'
Their 'byes' were disrupted by a gorgeous and blonde male.
'Nati, who's this?' His gaze swept over her, making her blush.
'Oh, um... Dan this is Lorelai. Lorelai, Dan.'
A gleam smile appeared on his lips. 'Interesting,' he mumbled, barely audible. 'Say, uh, Lorelai. Want to eat lunch with us today?'
Lorelai -- being the new girl -- wanted to meet new people, so her answer was yes.
As the blonde walked away, Natalie turned to Dan and gave a disbelieving smile. 'You are unbelievable, you know that?'
'Just doing what I have to. And I'd be glad to do that,' replied Daniel, referring to Lorelai.
'You are so arrogant,' commented Natalie, shaking her head in the process.
'Well, at least I have something to be arrongant about,' emphasized Daniel, his lips twisted into one of his smirks.
'Oh. And what's that suppose to mean?' questioned Natalie, narrowing her eyes into slits, her unwavering gaze on the merry blonde.
'Oh don't get me wrong. I wasn't talking about you, just in general.'
Rolling her eyes, she jerked har hand to show that it didn't matter to her. The last thing was needed was to get into a heated discussion with Daniel. Being the talker he was, she was still amazed by how good he was with words.
His sweet talk was captivating but his actions betrayed you. That was one of the important things the female population didn't notice about Dan. They tripped over themselves to get a date with Daniel, and after he got sex from them, he dumped them like yesterday's trash.
But surprisingly, it didn't phase the ever growing lust for him. It seemed the girls would do anything to get a night with him, even let Daniel stomp all over their heart and feelings.
'Girls are like toys. When they get old, you throw them out and get a new one,' was the reply she got when Natalie mentioned her views to him. His player attitude made him a low bastard, but he was a great and loyal friend. And that was rather rare to find these days.
'Nati, you there?'
She turned her head and smiled at Daniel. 'Yeah.'
'So, that Lorelai person, huh? Is she hot or what? How long did you think it'll take me to get her into bed? A couple of hours?' chuckled the amused Daniel.
With continous shakes of her head, Natalie steered her way toward, leaving Dan to his own thoughts.
Dan walked on slyly, thinking of how the day got better. Ocassionally passing a couple of giggling girls, winking in their direction.
