Chapter 2

A/N: Well, well…Chapter 2 already! If I keep going at this rate, I might actually finish this! First off I must thank my reviewers (all four of them!). I wouldn't have written chapter 2 so quickly if it hadn't been for them. See? Reviews help, so take a few seconds and leave one. Also, feel free to be as critical as you like, as long as you tell me what's wrong. Just telling me "It sucks" doesn't do any good. So, keep that in mind and on with the show!

"Where do they keep all the real food?" he wondered aloud. "Ah, great. Food," he said to himself when he found a box of Kraft's very own Macaroni & Cheese. Seth began opening random cabinets again, trying to find a pot to boil water in. It only took a couple tries, and soon he had a pot of water on the stove. He dumped the macaroni in and stirred it a couple times. Then, Seth heard a crash that sounded like it had come from the front room.

~*~*~*~

`What the hell?' Seth wondered. Forgetting his food for the time being, he wandered out to the front room. What he discovered stunned him.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing?!" exclaimed Seth. Jai froze.

"I…I, uhh," stammered a very distressed Jai.

"Drop it, now," said Seth, nearly shouting. Jai had apparently found his Aunt's china. There were pieces of a plate on the floor, which explained the crash, and Jai had another of the plates in his hands.

"I…okay," said Jai, quietly, and proceeded to drop the plate. Following the crash, a numb silence permeated the room. It was akin to the silence before the storm.

"You fucking idiot! You can't do anything! Why the hell did you drop the fuckin' plate?!" Seth shouted.

"I…I'm sorry" mumbled Jai, his eyes filling with tears.

"You're sorry! You're sorry! Not nearly as sorry as…I," Seth stopped as he noticed Jai's tears. "Hey, look," Seth said, placing a hand on Jai's shoulder, "it's okay. I'll just clean this up and I'll bet my Aunt won't even notice."

"Really? Then you aren't mad?" questioned Jai.

"No, I'm not mad," Seth answered.

Jai beamed and hugged Seth enthusiastically. Seth grimaced and pushed Jai away gently.

"Okay, now just stay out of trouble while I clean this up, alright?" Seth sighed as he knelt down to pick up the broken china. Clean up didn't take long, but when he proceeded to the kitchen to throw the pieces of the plates away, he saw his macaroni had boiled over. He tossed the broken plates in the trash can and rushed to try to save his lunch.

"Damn it all…" muttered Seth as he cleaned up his ruined lunch. He glanced at Jai, "I suppose you're hungry, huh?" he asked the other teen. Without waiting for a response, Seth opened the refrigerator and rummaged around inside. He pulled out a few tacos, obviously left over from a previous meal.

"Hey, Jai, what about a taco?" Seth asked Jai.

"What about it?" Jai responded.

Seth just stared at Jai for a few seconds, "Do you want one?'

"Oh, okay. I guess so."

Seth pulled the plastic wrap off of the plate and popped it in the microwave.

"Hey, you want a soda?" Seth asked as he pulled a soda for himself out of the refrigerator door.

"Forty-seven, forty-eight," Jai didn't answer the question, he was busy counting the tiles on the floor of the kitchen.

`Alright, Seth, just don't say anything," Seth thought as he sighed. The microwave beeped and Seth pulled the plate out. He handed Jai his taco, which he took tentatively.

Jai sat down at the table with his taco. He stared at it for a while then poked it. He stared at it for a few moments then poked it. The, Jai pulled it apart slowly and took the filling out. He examined the taco shell closely, then put everything back inside. Jai smiled at his `accomplishment' and then did it again…and again…and again. He would've continued if Seth's patience for Jai's antics hadn't reached its end.

"Why…"Seth tried to force himself to be calm, "don't you just eat it?

"What? How am I supposed to do that?" Jai questioned with a completely innocent look on his face. That, by itself, was almost too much for Seth to handle.

"Are you like the youngest person in the world to have Alzheimer's or something?!" Seth exclaimed, his left eye was beginning to twitch. He groaned, "You know what? Never mind, just never mind." Seth, relatively composed again, leaned against the counter, one elbow resting on the surface and began to eat his food.

Jai jumped up, as if he had just had a brilliant idea (which in his point of view he had), grabbed his taco and leaned up against the counter. It took a couple tries to get himself balanced exactly like Seth was, and in the process the taco fell apart and landed on the floor. Jai, who was apparently surprised that the taco had just taken itself apart like that, stared at it.

Seth looked at the mess, his mouth slightly ajar, and his gaze then moved to Jai. It lingered there for a few moments then Seth walked over to the closet in the hallway adjacent to the kitchen. He opened the door, stepped inside and closed the door behind himself. He screamed then walked very calmly back to the kitchen where he began to pick up the mess.

~*~Switch POV (to Sora, Seth's younger sister)~*~

It was a mere ten minutes before the anxious classroom of teenagers would be released to their lunch hour. Consequently, no one was really listening to the teacher anymore. Sora heard something about a test, and the requisite groan the followed, but her mind was elsewhere. She knew Seth was going to be late today, he had still been in bed when she had left to catch the bus. She had considered waking him up, but her brother wasn't much of a morning person and she hadn't felt like being yelled at.

Sora pulled out a piece of paper to write a note to one of her friends back in Japan. She didn't think twice about translation, she knew both Japanese and English by heart. She had growing up in the heart of Tokyo with an American family to thank for that. Her brother was also a fluent speaker of both languages, though one couldn't really tell. Seth hardly ever talked. Sora was so preoccupied with writing her note that she didn't even notice the teacher had stopped talking for the moment to walk over to her desk.

"So, what do we have here?" the history professor took the note off of Sora's desk.

"I just thought since I was new," Sora was cut off.

"You thought? Hopefully it rubs off on some of my other students. Now, how about I read this out loud?"

"Go ahead," Sora replied with a smirk. Snickers sounded from somewhere in the classroom. Apparently her teacher hadn't bothered to look at the note, he was too busy trying to intimidate his new student, apparently. If he had even glanced down at it he would have realized it was written in Japanese.

The teacher sauntered up to the front of the classroom and cleared his throat. He looked at the note, ready to dictate the note to the class, and a confused looked appeared on his face. "Actually," he paused, "since you are a new student I'll let you off with a warning just this once." He threw the note in the trash. A student mutters `lucky' in Sora's general direction. The lunch bell finally rings, releasing the students from their State funded prison.

"Hey, new girl, you know you're hell'a lucky, right?" Sora looked up at the girl who was speaking to her and smiled.

"Yeah, I suppose," Sora slung her backpack over her shoulder and started walking towards the lunchroom. The girl followed her.

"I'm Jordan, your name's Sora, right?" Sora nodded. "So, where are you from, Sora?"

"Tokyo…It's in Japan," Sora answered.

Jordan frowned slightly, "You don't look Japanese. You don't hardly speak with an accent either"

"That's because my mom and dad were American. They moved there before I was born."

Jordan nodded in understanding, "Cool…Well, since you're the new girl and all I figured you might want a place to sit at lunch. Care to sit with me and my friend then? He won't mind, in fact he'll probably love having someone else's makeup to go through."

Sora looked around for her brother before she sat down. `Weird…maybe he's actually still sleeping or something,' Sora thought.

"Hey, Darryn, this is Sora. She just moved here," Jordan told her friend.

"Hey! You're cute." He said. He winced when Jordan smacked him. "What?" he asked.

"Sorry, Sora. Just don't pay attention to him." Jordan said to Sora.

"I…um, okay," Sora said, slightly confused.

"Yeah, I'm sorry," Darryn said, "Not that you aren't cute, it's just..I…"

"He's a fag." No one had really noticed the girl walk up to the table.

"Shut up, Tara," Jordan said coldly.

"I wasn't talking to you, bitch," Tara said to Jordan, "I was talking to the new girl." Tara turned to Sora. "Hey, you want to sit with me instead of these fags? I thought it was cool, how you showed that teacher up without trying and all. I saw your note too, being able to write Chinese is pretty cool too."

Sora rolled her eyes, "It's Japanese and no, I don't want to sit with you. I'd much rather stay here."

Tara looked surprised, she wasn't used to being turned down. "Fine, whatever," she said, "I was just kidding anyway, loser." Tara walked back to her lunch table.

Jordan laughed, "You told her, Sora. Way to go." Darryn smiled brightly.

Sora looked at her new friends. Maybe America wouldn't be as bad as she thought it would be. Now, if only she could do something about her brother.
